Display for the new Moto X

With the new Moto X it now features a much bigger display coming from a nice 4.7 inch display to a even bigger 5.2 inches, an 18% increase in screen area. But the new display has jumped from 1280 x 720 to 1980 x 1080 pixels making for a much richer display experience.

Now Motorola brings the richness and details that’s essential for a display of this size. It now sports 423ppi, a higher density than the first generation Moto X. The Moto X is a rich and vibrant, with added detail and appears to offer good viewing angles.

Dual speakers now frame that large display and enhance and improve audio playback whether you are watching videos or playing games. The screen dominates the design, which for the most part is fairly minimal allowing your customisations like the leather back to stand on their own merit.

Camera

Motorola has also upgraded the camera in the Moto X, from 10 to 13 megapixels (with a slightly larger f2.25 aperture). Also Motorola has now added a dual flash for hopefully improved low-light photography, and the new sensor also has support for 4K video recording.

The handset will be available in a number of finishes, too, thanks to Motorola’s online Moto Maker design service.  Which was previously only available in the US, but now it’s coming to the UK at last later this month to co incide with the launch of the new Moto X.

With Moto Maker, you can customise the X’s rear panel, front panel and trim colour, as well as upgrade the phone’s storage from the default 16GB to 32GB as there’s no microSD card to expand it at a later date. You can also engrave it with your own message on the lower back panel.

You can also personalise certain parts of the Moto X’s software, including a power on greeting when you first turn the phone on and the wallpaper.

Also Moto Maker will automatically suggest a series of wallpapers based on your Moto X’s design and colour choices, but you’ll also have the option to select other wallpapers from a pre-configured gallery.

You can also specify whether you’d like a charger, you can also pre configure your Google account so it’s ready to use straight out of the box for you. Pre-curated Moto X designs will also be available to view and buy in case you need inspiration.

About the New Moto X
The new Moto X is also a very different smartphone from previous Moto X. It jumped into real flagship territory, and now challenges the proposition of some of the best Android devices out there.

Moving on from the odd mid-range that the Moto X previously occupied is good, as Motorola now has a flagship device.

Moto Maker

  • Moto Maker 16GB – starting from £419.99
  • Moto Maker 16GB with wood/leather – starting from £439.99
  • Moto Maker 32GB – starting from £459.99
  • Moto Maker 32GB with wood/leather – starting from £479.99

In the UK prices will start from £419 although the leather option brings it up to £439 (16GB). The Moto X will be available in the UK from the end of September from Amazon.
