I’m happy to see an other addin from Electrongoo for both WHSv1 & WHS2011, however, for me, I find it’s simple but convenient addin and $15 is a bit steep. I would expect free or $3.
To be honest I think that no add-in should be free if someone has put the effort into writing it, especially as hardly anyone is releasing any 2011 ones. What we want is that happy balance, like you say, around $3 – $5 is nice, depending on what it is. Obviously more if it is something really in-depth 🙂
Yes, why pay when there are free, ad-free too apps like WinCDEmu-3.4. Ok so it doesn’t show in the console but there is a portable and installable version that integrates into the shell.
For me that is why $3 is enough, more seems bit steep too
I applaud the add-in and price – I purchased a copy as well. $15 is reasonable for this add-in imo. I’m happy to see companies making add-ins that I can use. It’s unfortunate there are not more!
Btw, I doubt any person/company could make money selling add-in’s for $3 (or worse, free). It seems like you’re comparing pricing to apps selling large-volume sales like the iphone and android. WHS is a MUCH smaller volume market and could never benefit from “low price, high volume” products.
thanks Bart – that’s great feedback
It’s true that I have been spoiled by so many free addins available for WHSv1 in the past. Now that the supply of addins has slowed, I would consider paying for some. I have purchased addins.
When addins were free or 30 days free, I would give it a try, no pressure.
But if there is a fee right from the start, then I have to consider if the cost meets my requirement for the addin. This is different for everyone.
I understand that developers put a lot of effort into their addins and because of that they might charge quite a bit more than what the public expects should be paid. I just hope they just don’t price themselves out of sales.
Thanks again Electrogoo for continuing to develop addins for WHSv1 & WHS2011.
@John Zajdler. I agree with you about the usefulness of free trials. You can see on our electrongoo.com site we normally offer free trials of our add-ins. I wish we could do the same for this add-in. Unfortunately, due to restrictions on our ISO/UDF formatter engine we are not able to offer a free trial for this add-in.

thanks for the reponse Jim
While I think the extra WHS specific functionality is worthy of the developer getting paid, it still boggles my mind that with Server 2008/Win7 Microsoft still doesn’t have native ISO support. But it’s coming in Windows 8! Great – a reason to upgrade, I suppose :p
