Here is my network! Don’t worry, I changed the guest password here immediately after I took the screen shot.

I decided to run the speed test application listed on the toolbar.

I ended up rebooting the three cameras that I have set up. On my old router, I needed to manually forward ports on these cameras. On this router, the address reservations programmed at the camera level were picked up via UPnP with no issues for two of the cameras. The third camera is a Linksys Wireless G model from 2009, and it does not work well with UPnP, so I had to forward the port for that camera. I did that over the internet from my office desk and it worked immediately. I love not having to port forward for the majority of my equipment, and being able to modify port forwarding from the internet is a really convenient option.  Start to finish, this took me about 35 minutes, including screenshots. The installation was simple.

Overall Installation Evaluation

I’ve set up my share of routers, and usually dread the experience.  Invariably, something doesn’t work and I send up spending an inordinate amount of time and energy.  In fact, my last router, a NETGEAR WNDR3700v2, shipped with buggy firmware that shut off the main networks when guest networks were enabled, among other features that did not work correctly.  In addition, I was forced to set about 10 port forwarding rules manually with the devices that I have in the house.  This router was completely set up in about a half an hour, and only one device needed to have a manual port forward set.  Linksys has delivered on the easy setup process with this router.

Stay tuned for further articles in this review series.  Next up, I’ll install the AC wireless bridge and share some wireless AC speed test results with you.
