A Closer Look

Final Thoughts

The G5 Max leans into HECATE’s usual design with a cool headband and metal support arms that give a futuristic look without feeling flimsy. The ear cushions are wrapped in skin-friendly protein leather over high-resilience memory foam, heat-moulded to spread pressure evenly across a wider contact area, and the ear cups themselves have a soft, skin-feel coating that’s pleasant to the touch.

The self-lubricating damped pivot structures on the metal arms allow the cups to rotate and adjust in every direction, which makes it easy to get a snug fit regardless of head shape. The detachable boom mic clips in cleanly and can be pulled off entirely for times when you just want to listen to music rather than game.

The HECATE G5 Max is a lightweight headset considering everything that’s packed into it, and at 305g it stays comfortable even during long sessions. The 3D pivot fitting and memory foam cushions do a genuinely good job of spreading out pressure, so there’s none of the clamping fatigue you sometimes get with gaming headsets after a couple of hours.

Switching between the connection modes is straightforward, and having both a 2.4GHz USB-A and USB-C dongle in the box means it’s easy to use across PC, console and mobile devices without hunting for adapters. The Bluetooth 6.0 connection paired quickly and reliably too.

Sound-wise, the 53mm PEN driver and 64 Ω impedance combine to give a wide, detailed soundstage, and the THX 7.1.4 Spatial Audio makes footsteps and directional cues genuinely easier to place, which is exactly what you want in competitive FPS titles. Music fares well too, with clean highs and punchy lows that don’t bleed into each other.

The dual built-in mics and detachable boom mic handle voice chat clearly, and the AI noise cancellation does a solid job of cutting out background noise without making your voice sound processed or robotic.

Battery life is a real highlight here. Up to 305 hours in Bluetooth mode means you can go weeks between charges even with regular use, and the ability to charge and play at the same time removes any anxiety about the headset dying mid-match.

The HECATE ConneX app and driver software round things off nicely, giving you quick access to EQ presets, lighting effects and mode switching without digging through menus.

The HECATE G5 Max is available now priced around £159.99 and is available in White or Space Grey.
