Review: TRENDnet TV-IP651W IP Camera

In summary, IP Camera Viewer is a great camera app, and it works will all sorts of different vendor’s cameras.  This is my recommended solution for IP camera viewing on mobile devices.

Overall Evaluation

The TRENDnet TV-IP651W IP camera is a sub-$200 camera with wireless and wired networking support and pan/tilt/zoom capabilities.  It supports remote viewing over the internet, comes with a very sturdy metal installation bracket and is easy to set up and use.  It has motion detection capabilities, can capture and save images via FTP, and can also send captured photos via email on motion detection.  It lacks night vision.

Pros:

• Full networking support
• Java and ActiveX viewing and administration; supports Mac and Windows
• FTP support
• Motion detection
• Email notification
• Can be controlled remotely over the internet
• One-way audio

Cons:

• SecureView Mobile does not work on all Android Ice Cream Sandwich devices
• SecureView Mobile is restricted to TRENDnet cameras only.
• No night vision
• If you need two-way audio, this does not have it

Conclusion:

If you can live without night vision in a PTZ camera, and you can live with 640×480 resolution, this is a good buy and I can recommend it.  I give it a 5/5.
