Boxee Box 1.2 Update Available Shortly

Boxee have also just announced that they will be releasing the Boxee Box 1.2 software update in the next few days.

The update will roll out over the next few days to all users and includes:

  • Filtering premium sources in the library such as Vudu, HBO Go, etc
  • New “Featured Apps” section
  • Updated App categories
  • NFS and AFP support (and improved SMB/CIFS support)
  • Improved HTML5 support in the browser
  • Support for OS X Lion as a source for video files
  • Option to receive “Beta Releases” of the firmware

New Features / Enhancements

Networking & File Playback

  1. Added support for Apple Filing Protocol (AFP)
  2. Added support for Network File System (NFS)
  3. Enhanced support for SMB/CIFS shares
  4. Added support for Boxee Media Manager
  5. Consolidated network shares under the server name

Interface

  1. Ability to filter premium content sources like Netflix, HBOGo, VUDU, etc. in library
  2. Reordered Apps library
  1. New “Featured Apps” section
  2. Updated App categories
  1. Support for seek within a video on first right/left click (when OSD is still not open)
  2. Seek forward is now 10 seconds instead of 5 seconds
  3. “Jump to letter” sidebar in libraries now shows current letter location

Browser

  1. Improved HTML 5 video support

Settings

  1. Resetting display settings leaves previous setting data intact
  2. Add support for HDMI output YUV422 and YUV444
  3. Add support for HDMI output 30 and 36 bit color
  4. HDMI “Black Level” settingnow RGB “High and Low”

Bug fixes

Networking & File Playback

  1. Problem with manually resolving a movie that has NFO file
  2. Fixed adult filter for local content in manual resolve
  3. HLS Playback ends abruptly
  4. SMB: boxee crash when selecting “No results found”
  5. “Resume playback from [end of video time marker]” shows up on videos that have been previously played all the way to the very end.
  6. When trying to play a movie again after it ended the play dialog offers to resume the movie from the movies last second
  7. Soundtrack loses Dolby Digital indication every 10s, without any relation to commercials spots
  8. SAMBA Authentication to Servers Accepting NTLMv2 Only Fails
  9. Boxee doesn’t resolve TV Shows with ID located only in the tvshow.nfo
  10. .m2ts Thumbnails Are Gray (When Viewing In Files)
  11. After clicking play (from paused state) the OSD should immediately disappear
  12. TV Show files that are deleted aren’t removed from the library
  13. Video file playing across network stops playing
  14. Video files containing “@” in the file path are not identified

Apps

  1. Videos on Vimeo do not play. and the device has to be restarted manually
  2. Vimeo – couch mode freeze after 10-15 minutes of playback, also freeze for a long time between videos
  3. API Command SeekTime() is not working

Libraries

  1. SnagFilms Documentaries playback stops prior to loading 2nd commercial
  2. Local TV shows take an extremely long time to load
  3. Watched TV Show Trigger not working
  4. Unable to remove a show from favorites when there is no content for the show

Browser

  1. Default focus when getting to exit confirmation in browser should be Exit not Stay
  2. HTML video tag causes page redraw issues… until video starts playing
  3. http://tv.clicker.com crashes boxee browser
  4. CNBC online video does not play
  5. http://zattoo.com/view will not open in the browser

Localization

  1. Localization: GERMAN Replace “Bewertung” for MPAA-Rating with “FSK”

Misc.

  1. Various Fixes to minimise Plasma Burn in
  2. Additional Keyboard names are not according the languages names but only in English (using the directory name)
  3. Increase subtitle sync limit from 50 to 200
  4. Boxee Box appears to be clipping black & white levels

Known limitations

  1. Streaming to the Boxee client via Airplay from the app is limited to online content (cannot steam local content via Boxee Media Manager)
