Over the weekend, Andy Brosius contacted us with information on a new Windows Phone 7 app he is working on. Today he is asking for beta testers.

file:recon is a Windows Phone 7 App which works in combination with the Server-Transfer Manager (STM) for Windows Home Server 2011/Vail (WHS) or Small Business Server (SBS).

In a way it’s a remote control for STM as it lets you control all of it’s features conveniently from your WP7 Smart Phone.

But lets take a step back and first take a look at what STM does:

The Server-Transfer Manager or STM is a plugin for WHS 2011/SBS 2011 which lets you easily transfer files to and from your server with a ton of options. It supports a variety of filehosters in both

premium and free mode as well as full FTP support. It is possible for you to schedule transfers or monitor folders or .txt files containing links for changes.

But since most of us lead busy lifes, it’s hard to keep track of the transfers’ progress or even to add a transfer.

That’s where file:recon comes in. It let’s you take control over STM from wherever you are. Somebody sent you a link to the party pictures from last Saturday and you want to see them

when you come home from work? Not a problem. You just copy/paste the link to file:recon and the rest (even extracting compressed files) is taken care of.

You want to download multiple files with a filehosters free account? Normally you would have to sit next to your server to type in the captchas when prompted.

In that case STM sends you a toast notification on your phone which lets you type and send the captcha code from the palm of your hand.

In short: file:recon let’s you do everything you can do with STM

– add/delete/modify transfer links

– schedule/monitor transfers

– manage filehoster/FTP accounts

– get a detailed overview of your transfers or

– get a brief update at a glance

– input captcha codes on the go

Here is what they posted on their blog today:

Hey y’all!

Big news today. As our latest project gets closer to completion, we want to give you the opportunity to get your hands dirty and test it for us. As always we depend on your feedback.

If you decide to examine file:recon beta it would be great if you’d consider these topics:

  • usability
  • bugs
  • typos
  • overall user experience
  • etc.

You will be able to leave your feedback on the marketplace or – if you prefer – on our blog.

There are no special skills necessary, however there are some requirements you’ll have to meet:

  1. you’re the owner or user of a Windows Home Server 2011 or Small Business Server 2011
  2. you’ve Server Transfer-Manager installed on your WHS/SBS 2011
  3. a Windows Phone 7 is in your possession and it has access to the internet
  4. you are willing to give us detailed feedback

That’s it. Piece of cake!

All you’ll have to do now is send us an email and let us know why you want to test file:recon

If you’re chosen you will receive a mail with further details on the beta testing phase as soon as the beta is ready.

Here’s what you can look forward to:
