Ripping Movies

Here is how the Movie Disc Copier component is described:

Movies Disc Copier is a fully automated DVD or Blu-ray disc copier that allows you to automatically copy your movies directly to the Home Servers storage making it available to Media Centers, such as Microsoft Media Center, Media Portal, XBMC and many others.

Your movies can be copied to either VIDEO_TS formats for DVD’s, ISO format for DVD or Blu-ray, or a Media Center Extender compatible MPEG-2 format for DVD’s, or you can copy both to a VIDEO_TS format as well as an MPEG-2 format for DVD’s, allowing the full VIDEO_TS structure to be played on the main Media Center, and the MPEG-2 file on your Media Center Extender.

Disc copying has never been easier, simply insert a DVD or Blu-ray into an optical drive, and the copy process will start automatically, while you have a full detailed overview in your Windows Home Server console, after about 15 minutes for a DVD, or about 45 minutes for a Blu-ray, depending on the size of the disc, and the processing power of your Home Server, the disc will again be ejected from the drive.

Make sure that AnyDVD is installed and registered otherwise the movie ripping will not work.

Just pop the DVD or Blu-ray into the drive and sit back and wait. Information on the Movie title should appear (as it reads the disc label). Just be patient while the rip takes place.

Final Thoughts

What can I say? I really love the AVA Media Add-In. It is very easy to install and configure – with lots of different options that should keep just about everyone happy!

Once it is all configured it is so simple to use – you just have to pop in a music CD or a movie DVD or Blu-ray, and AVA Media does the rest.

I tried a number of different audio CDs and movies and each time AVA Media worked flawlessly.

If you want to easily rip music or movies to your Windows Home Server then AVA Media is a must have add-in. Go get it today!

And even better if you are buying a Leo HS4 from Tranquil, you will get AVA Media for free!

  1. Hi Andrew,
    thanks for the review.
    – Can you provide some info how different AVA is from the original MyMovies2011 (beside naming/branding)?
    – And will updates be available as soon as MyMovies make them or only after some delays after Transquil has tested etc. them ?
Reason for asking is why should I use AVA instead of MyMovies (and the other wa around)?

    • hi Clark

      All good questions 🙂

My Movies and AVA Media are the same, just re-branded.

I have asked Tranquil to comment on the update speed.

As for why you should choose one over the other – well it could come down to cost. With AVA Media there is a one off cost of around £21 depending on which pack you go for. With My Movies you need a certain number of points, which again can cost money or time depending how you want to acculumate them.

There is no right or wrong answer here – its a personal choice.

Here is the response from Tranquil on the second question:

We get updates the Add In 7-10 days prior to general release, to allow us to test / approve.
We then always provide updates on our support site (free).

  2. Have they dropped support for the WHS v1 product ? I believe it was called RipNet. Is it still available for purchase ? I did not find it on their site.

    • John

      Got this back from Tranquil:

RipNet for WHSV1 is free and always will be (The Add In for Media Centre (target) is currently only included with our Media Centres)

RipNet for WHS2011 will be launched very soon.

  3. Sorry, I get RipNet & AVA Media mixed up. I should have asked if AVA Media for WHSv1 is still available ?

AVA Media is the full package, like MyMovies but you purchase a license instead of earn points like MyMovies. Is there a price tier depending on the options ?
