Charging the juice pack air
In the bottom right corner of the juice pack air, you will see a USB connector. This is where you charge it.
Just connect the supplied USB cable from your computer to the juice pack air. You could also use any wall-plug style power adaptor as well.
The 4 light LED battery status indicator shows you how much “juice” is left and also how much remains to be charged depending on if you are using it or charging it.
Normal full charging takes between 2 and 3 hours.
The battery itself is a highly condensed lithium polymer battery that includes built in overcharge, short circuit and temperature protection.
Using the juice pack air
Once the juice pack air has been charged, it is very simple to use. Just pull the case apart and slide your iPhone 4 into it and then slide the other part of the case back into place.
The case is obviously a little bigger than your iPhone 4 but not so much bigger as to be a problem.
The case is very light weight as well, which is a good thing as I have used cases in the past that add a significant weight to the pairing and so you stop using it.
If your iPhone is already fully charged, then the juice pack air battery will be used as your primary battery, and if it isn’t fully charged the air will charge your iPhone 4 first.
Final Thoughts
I have to say that I really like the juice pack air. Its fairly small, light weight and simple to use, and it feels very sturdy, so while I don’t want to drop my iPhone on the ground, I feel safe knowing that if I do, for the most part, it should be protected.
Using it was simple – well actually there was nothing I had to do, I just has the iPhone in the case and I just went about my normal activities.
Even on days where I specifically used the iPhone more than I would normally, I found I got a significant amount of additional battery power.
I really liked that I could place the juice pack air into standby and not use its battery if I wanted with just the flick of a switch.
The mophie juice pack air is now a permanent fixture with my iPhone 4 and I am confident that for most, if not in all my daily activities, I won’t run out of battery again.
One other thing I quite liked was what mophie refer to as “acoustic sound enhancement”. What does this actually mean? Well, the case design acts a virtual speaker box, redirecting sound from the bottom of the iPhone 4 to the front, resulting in a richer, fuller sound quality. And it actually works quite well!
So if you want to buy one of these, it will set you back around $79.95 in the US, and £79.99 in the UK. It’s a shame that here in the UK we are once again paying a significant premium! So as usual, have a look around online, you might be able to find it a little bit cheaper.
