A Closer Look at the Enclosure
The enclosure itself is fairly small and is very light. It only has to connectors on it – a USB 3.0 connector and a power connector (that most modern computers won’t need).
There is also a little button you move to enable the enclosure to be opened which then just needs to you slide apart.
Adding a Hard Drive to the Enclosure
Adding a drive to the enclosure was very simply. After moving the button and sliding the case apart, it was just a case (no pun intended) of connecting one end to the drive and then sliding it back into place.
Using the Enclosure
Connecting the enclosure to my free USB 3.0 port had it detected by Windows in no time at all.
From then it was just a case of using it.
Final Thoughts
Icy Dock make a lot of useful products, and this one is no exception. I have a number of “spare” 2.5” drives that would be useful to use as external drives and this enclosure not only makes it easy, but enables me to connect at USB 3.0 speeds!
The retail price is around $60, but you can find it significantly cheaper if you look around.
