WHATS IN THE BOX

Apart from the NAS itself, there is a quick start guide, cd, power cables, keys, and network cables.

ADDING A DRIVE

Adding a drive to the TS-459 Pro is very simple. All you have to do is remove the drive bay, fit the drive in the bay and fasten it with a screws, then slide the bay back into place.

If you have a 2.5” drive you want to use you can do so easily as the bay includes screw holes for that size drive – this is good and saves having to buy any sort of convertor which other NAS devices often make you buy.

USING THE TS-459 PRO

Once everything is connected and the drives are in place it is just a case of switching it on.

It takes a few minutes but all the progress can be viewed on the LCD screen.

You can then configure everything from there as well without the need to install any software (if you want). It is literally a case of a few clicks through the menu options and its done. This is very simple and doesn’t require any special knowledge – just a series of yes / no type answers and then just wait whist the creation process takes place.

When it’s complete you can see information on your box displayed, such as the firmware version, the name and the IP address.

You can then work your way through the various menu options – again, all without the need for any computer at this stage.

  1. Thanks for the detailed review Andrew. It's quite pricy as you say, I like the look, it looks like something that would fit in a small business. The LCD screen is a nice touch. Did you try and install WHS on it ?

    You know you want to…

QNAP have a few models available, so that nice to see.

    • 🙂 now why did I know you were going to ask that!

No, I didnt get a chance to install WHS on it and its gone back to QNAP now unfortunately.

      Nice box though!

  2. eSATA :2 x eSATA port (Back)

VGA : Reserved VGA interface for maintenance

    All stuff I like.

    Bonus. LCD panel

    LAN Port : 2 x Gigabit RJ-45 Ethernet port

  3. lol, you would install Windows Home Server on a QNAP?!? I think you drive much better with the QNAP Firmware based on Linux! its much saver! And cant use the Buttons on the front and the LCD panel!

sorry for my bad english 😉

    Greetings Neo
