The two models, the 500GB and the 2TB are both available for pre-order on Amazon.com. The 500GB is $349.99 and the 2TB is $529.99.

Not sure why anyone would buy the 2tb unit over the 500gb unit. The difference in price is $180. For $180 you can buy a 2tb unit and put it into the 500gb unit giving you 2.5tb for the price of the 2tb unit. Find a 2tb drive on sale and you can even save money.
Obviously this could all change if the pricing gets changed in the future.
I agree, always better to go for the cheaper option and by the drives yourself 🙂

The 500 GB model has only 1GB of RAM and it is soldered to the mainboard. There is no extra slot with which to add another stick of RAM. That said, I have the 500GB model and it does fine with one gig.
Thanks Jeff – thats an interesting choice for Asus to have made!
