Anthem of the Seas Pre-inaugural Cruise – The Bionic Bar

Royal Caribbean recently invited us to the pre-inaugural cruise of their latest ship Anthem of the Seas to look at some of the technology on-board. Here we experience drinks being made by robots at the Bionic Bar.

Royal Caribbean International’s newest ship, Anthem of the Seas, has a line-up of unexpected experiences at sea bringing thrilling adventures to guests of all ages. From the RipCord by iFLY sky diving experience and the North Star, a glass observation capsule that takes guests more than 300 feet above the ocean, to futuristic entertainment, a robust culinary experience and game-changing technology that encompasses everything from robotic bartenders to superfast wireless connectivity, Anthem of the Seas will allow guests to vacation like never before.

Bionic Bar, powered by Makr Shakr, is set to make waves with robots at center stage.  Guests place orders via tablets and then have fun watching robotic bartenders hard at work mixing cocktails.

Here we select a drink and watch one of the robots make it for us (the whole process is quicker than the video shows, we just wanted to show you the robots in action):

Anthem of the Seas will sail her inaugural spring and summer season from her homeport of Southampton, U.K., offering Europe and Mediterranean itineraries. In fall 2015 she will cross the Atlantic to make Cape Liberty Cruise Port in New York Harbor her permanent home, sailing to the Caribbean.

The first skydiving experience at sea allows everyone from first-time flyers to seasoned skydivers to enjoy the sheer thrill and exhilaration of skydiving in a safe, controlled, simulated environment. The sensation of flying takes place inside a 23-foot tall glass flight chamber, the center piece of RipCord by iFLY, giving Royal Caribbean guests the chance to fly while taking in stunning ocean views. It is surrounded by a viewing platform for friends, family and other spectators so everyone can take part in the fun.

Here I am attempting to fly for a minute, then see how it should be done:

Welcome to A New 3D Platformer Called Yooka-Laylee

0

Playtonic Games, the recently formed UK studio comprised of ex-Rare staff, have unveiled the 3D platformer Yooka-Laylee, they previously teased. A Kickstarter campaign has also been launched to raise £175,000 which was raised in 40 minutes in funding to bring the game to Windows, Mac, Linux, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Wii U.

Yooka Laylee pic 2

Yooka-Laylee is a collect-‘em-up that very much serves as a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie. You play as two characters: Yooka the chameleon and Laylee the bat who rides upon Yooka’s head. You take them both across five different worlds collecting Pagies, which are the golden bounty used to unlock each new area.

Along the way, you’ll have to defeat oddball baddies and bosses that may burp and fart, using the unique abilities of both Yooka and Laylee. Yooka, for example, can roll up into a ball and use his tongue as a whip. Laylee, on the other hand, is able to fly through the air carrying Yooka and emit a sonar blast.

You can see these abilities in use in the video above, which also showcases the Jungle World from the game that, like the rest of the worlds, is designed to feel like a playground full of a variety of challenges. There are even arcade machines to find with old-school games to beat on them to unlock a Pagie.

Now that the base goal of £175,000 has been reached on the Kickstarter then Yooka-Laylee will be launched on PC with console versions coming afterwards. However, reaching the £1,000,000 stretch goal means that the team can bring the game to all platforms on the same day.

Yooka Laylee pic 1

There are also a number of other features to be added with the lower stretch goals such as a co-op, local versus multiplayer for up to four players, and extra boss battles, mechanics, and NPCs.

At the time of writing Playtonic Games has reached the goal of £921,636 with 45 days to get to £1 million for a day one release on Xbox One, PS4 and Wii U.

Dead Island 2 delayed until 2016

0

Today Deep Silver has announced that “Dead Island 2” has officially been delayed until 2016.

dead island 2

Statement from the developer:

We have always set ourselves a big goal for Dead Island 2: to create the sequel that takes Dead Island to the next level. A game that takes what our fans tell us they love about Dead Island – multiple different characters to play with, co-op, and turning a paradise setting into a zombie slaughter melee – and a game that adds a ton more content and combat options on top of that. And we wanted to have all of that that done for release in Spring 2015.

We have been looking at the game long and hard, and we have decided we didn’t reach that goal we set out to achieve quite yet. This is why we have decided to delay Dead Island 2 to 2016.

Right now we are focusing purely on development, and we will have more info to share at a later stage.

We know that our fans will be disappointed by this news, but by giving Dead Island 2 more time we are confident that everyone will get a better game to play as a result.

Review: Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number

It doesn’t seem all too long ago since I last played a Hotline Miami game. The abrupt flashes of anger that dissipate as quickly as they arrive, plumping for ‘just one last try’ despite how close my poor pad was coming to its unknowing demise. All such stress is rendered pointless however when, no matter how arduous the challenge, you’ll still not be happy with your achieved score. (Un)fortunately for me, it’s time to take the cyclical trip through the revolving doors of heartache and jubilation once more, as Devolver Digital and Dennation Games have released Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number. I’d better buy another pad just in case…

Hotline-Miami-2---Screen-5
Someone here isn’t having superfun by the looks of it

Despite the intense feeling of familiarity you often get when playing a sequel, there’s hopefully enough new content to keep you interested. Hotline Miami 2, straddles this balance a little uncomfortably. There are indeed changes to the gameplay, subtle as they are, but that’s not why I kept playing. In fact, it was often the reason I turned it off. The beauty of the original was in its brutal simplicity, concise level designs and the mysterious story arch. Wrong Number changes all of these and it’s not always for the better.

The narrative of the first game was more of an enigma in my eyes; it was elusive without being intentionally vague for the sake of it. The story in Wrong Number builds on these ideals whilst also adding slightly more exposition. Characters from the previous game make a return, and are in some cases expanded on with much more detail than you might expect. Unfortunately meaning some of the cryptic elements are lost, but at the expense of more involving and revealing cutscenes at least. With all the jumping about between characters, it can often be difficult to keep track of who’s who; this could especially be problematic for those who’ve not experienced the first game.

The first Hotline Miami was expressly hard until you got your bearings and started to learn the ins and outs of the mechanics. Once you’d died a few dozen times however, it became more about how you want to complete the level instead of if you can. That doesn’t really happen here, this one can be much more punishing; not always in a fair way. Not only are the levels longer in playtime, but the actual physical size of the areas are much larger than the previous game. In theory this would encourage the creation of different sections of each floor; by producing small areas, the player would have to learn how to complete several sections in succession. Instead, it often boils down to someone off screen shooting you time and time again.

Hotline-Miami-2---Screen-3
Hotline Miami wouldn’t be the same without doors

Wrong Number starts off incredibly easily for the first few levels, after that though, it assumes you’ve mastered the intricate nature of luring, knowing when to lock on and each characters abilities etc etc. What with the storyline dictating whom you must play as for the majority of the game, you never really end up developing your own playstyle either, you must instead use the strengths of the character provided; making some levels an absolute pig to complete if you’re not keen on how they play.

What makes the difficulty so aggravating in this one, surprisingly isn’t the cheap deaths or the exploitation of enemies and doorways, it’s that it comes close to ruining probably the best part of the game, the music. Some of the tracks in this game are absolutely brilliant, Carpenter Brut’s, Roller Mobster is exceptionally chosen and warranted an almost immediate purchase on its own. Yet when you’ve got such an aggressively pumping 80’s style anthem going on in the background, you tend to want to beat the level and think ‘that was awesome!’ Not die 50 times from an off screen enemy whilst your amazing music slowly deteriorates with its looping effect. The way the music is set up, is often in such a way that it expects you to complete each level on the first or so attempts to make it work; it ends up more frustrating than anything else.

Hotline-Miami-2---Screen-2
Not pictured: Many other gun-wielding, twitch shooting baddies

On top of the, frankly exceptional music, the developers have also done a great job with varying the visual aesthetics of each level too. You’ll of course wander the decrepit apartments and stores, but also be a part of military style incursions and the like. Even if the levels are, in my opinion, a little on the long side, at least each one looks and sounds different. Admittedly, with an ‘old school’ style of graphics there’s often not a lot to praise, but the little things make a larger difference than you might well imagine.

If you enjoyed the previous outings of the masked companions of Hotline Miami, then you’ll undoubtedly get on well with this iteration too, the music and the extra visual details help a lot, as does the expanded narrative. The level sizes and constantly having to adapt to new playstyles should in theory keep it feeling fresh and challenging, but for me, it works against it. I embrace the high difficulty of a game, I just wish that it would feel challenging without instead being cheap in death.

Preview: Yuneec Inc “Pro Action Steadicam Grip” & “Typhoon Q500+” Quadcopter

2

As Quadcopter filming becomes ever popular, more and more companies are providing their own consumer level videography solutions.

One such company is Yuneec Inc, who have come up with a potentially game changing all-in-one hardware offering that seems to give a great balance of both in the air AND on the ground filming that could turn the “Pro-sumer” on it’s head.

To find out more, Moobit caught up with Yuneec at their Gadget Show Live stand to get an exclusive glimpse of their upcoming Go-Pro Hero action camera compatible “Pro-Action Steadicam Grip” – due to release later this year – whilst also getting a product tour of their existing proprietary camera toting “CGO Steady Grip” – both of which are compatible with their brilliant “Typhoon Q 500+” Quadcopter which brings you an “all in one box solution” by letting you swap out the 3-axis camera and gimble attached to the Quad Copter and then attach it to the relevant Steadicam Grip – using your own smartphone as a viewfinder!

Look out for a full tech review of this videography solution by moobit in the coming months. In the meantime, further information can be found at the Yuneec Website.
