Persona 3 Reload proves that minor improvements to a much-loved title can reignite a beloved fire! If you somehow missed the PS2 classic JRPG, you now have the opportunity to dive into a thrilling and all-consuming experience. Furthermore, the modern finish and awe-inspiring audio will capture your attention.
This genre-defining RPG was developed by ATLUS and published by SEGA. Moreover, it breaks away from familiar genre tropes as you are free to take your time and explore as much as you wish. On top of this, some delightful party-building mechanics change the way you approach every encounter. As such, this will tick many boxes for fans of this time-consuming but incredible genre.
A recap of the Persona 3 Reload story.
I apologise if I tread on familiar ground, but I feel that I must set the scene. This lore-rich endeavour focuses on a transfer student and his special powers. Unbeknownst to him, his new school has a dark secret that must be uncovered. Using his magical ability, he can break the curse of the Dark Hour and explore its many mysteries. However, he is not the only gifted individual, and a group known as SEES help him to overcome every deadly foe he faces.
Though the story may not appear that original, the combination of exceptional characters, interesting dialogue, and well-timed objectives keeps you going. On top of that, you are sucked into an immersive world that is filled with mindless everyday activities and an unseen and seedy underworld. Accordingly, you can’t take your eyes off this fascinating addition to the genre.
Making friends and influencing people.
I’ve always adored RPGs. Yet, I found the opening moments of Persona 3 Reload to be tough to swallow. The slow-paced day-to-day activities didn’t resonate with me and I struggled to understand their relevance. However, I pushed through and discovered that my short-sighted opening opinion was so far off the reservation that it was embarrassing. The freedom to explore the daytime elements helps build relationships and level up the various Personas you meet.
This social link alongside your everyday school calendar can be tough to juggle. However, when you chuck in an element of Dark Hour dungeon crawling, things ramp up just a bit more. Furthermore, you get to explore elements of the SEES group that add a sense of realism and empathy to an otherwise cold-hearted bunch of misfits. These interactions improve your social links whilst increasing your academic stats. As such, you won’t want to miss these opportunities.
Working together.
The sense of normality and everyday activities enhances the believability of the groups’ relationships. However, it has a more important impact on your buffs and the ability to work together during those all-important turn-based battles. These battle perks make the daily grind rewarding and worthwhile.
In typical Persona fashion, Persona 3 Reload concentrates on elemental affinities and tactical advantages to gain extra turns. Additionally, the Theurgy attacks deliver character-specific effects to turn the tide of a battle in your favour. Moreover, the fusion system creates a bizarre arsenal of Persona attacks.
Tartarus!
Though you’ll spend a lot of time buttering up would-be party members, you won’t be able to avoid the seamlessly never-ending Tartarus tower. This deadly tower forms the dungeon-crawling element of Persona 3 Reload. Additionally, it has had a pleasant revamp that somehow removes some of the repetitive nature of the original. The fast-flowing combat and the inevitable boss battles are occasionally tough to manage. Yet, with some tactical planning, you should be able to cope with most situations.
Persona 3 Reload looks fantastic.
Every aspect of this anime-inspired adventure was great to look at. The cinematic delivers a sense of despair and doom as the fascinating story unfolds. Additionally, the modern polish and minor changes bring it in line with Persona 5. As such, if you love that game, you’ll adore how this remake has been brilliantly modernised without removing the early PS2 charms.
I found the voice acting to be mind-blowingly brilliant. When you combine this element with the spectacular soundtrack and the loud, fantasy sound effects, it is a real treat for the ears. On top of this, the varied songs and the brilliant dramatic timing create an immersive and impressive experience.
Excellent controls.
Though there are plenty of elements to master, the control system is extremely well-considered. If you played the original, it will feel familiar. However, if you are new to this, you’ll be grateful for the amazing and in-depth tutorial. Though the controls are easy to understand, you will have some trial and error as you try to master the best tactical approach for each encounter.
If you fall for Persona 3 Reload’s charms, you will not be able to put it down! This turn-based JRPG sucks you in and will not let you go until you see the end credits roll. Moreover, you are free to take your time or dive into the cruel Tartarus tower as you see fit. Either way, if you wish to witness the true ending, you will have to jump many hurdles and overcome plenty of obstacles. Consequently, this has plenty of replay value and longevity.
Persona 3 Reload is a brilliant remake.
Attempting to remake such an iconic title is a difficult ask. However, Persona 3 Reload has tweaked minor elements to improve every element. As such, this spectacular modern title will impress newcomers and veterans alike. Additionally, if you subscribe to Game Pass, you get to play this for free. Accordingly, I cherish this game and I recommend buying it here! Can you overcome the Shadows in the Dark Hour? Make some friends and climb that tower.
The iGaming market continues to grow at a staggering rate and is predicted to reach an eye-watering revenue of $107.30 billion in 2024. iGaming includes online activities like sports betting, online poker, casino games, and esports, so it’s a large umbrella term that encapsulates many of today’s most popular online activities. As such a large and fast-growing market, it’s inevitable that the iGaming market is constantly changing. There are many changes and developments that have occurred in recent times, so what are some of the main trends in 2024? Here are a few of the key trends that will be shaping the iGaming market in 2024.
Live Dealer Games
One of the biggest trends right now is live dealer casino games. Live dealer games involve playing casino games with a real-life croupier and other players from around the world with the use of streaming technology. This can create a more authentic, social, and immersive casino experience that brings a new layer of excitement to casino games.
Implementation Of AI
Of course, AI is having a huge impact on the iGaming market in 2024 (and just about every other market!). There are many ways that this technology is currently being used, including the creation of new generative AI games, personalizing gaming experiences, chatbots, and implementing response gaming measures. This will be one to keep an eye on as it’s likely that AI will find many other uses in iGaming in the months and years to come.
Identity Verification
It’s also important to be aware that cybercrime is on the rise and a major issue in iGaming right now. With so much money involved in iGaming, it’s inevitably heavily targeted by cybercriminals who are using advanced tactics and technologies. Customers need to be aware of the best cybersecurity practices, but organizations must also take measures to protect customer data. One of the key ways that this is being achieved is with better identity verification. Traditional methods no longer suffice, so operators need to use stronger measures during onboarding to prevent fraud. This can include asking customers to submit photos of government-issued identification and using bank statements to confirm addresses. There are also triggers that can be set up, such as attempting to place high-value bets or increasing bet volume.
Responsible Gaming Initiatives
There’s also a much greater emphasis being placed on responsible gambling. iGaming can be a fun activity for many people, but it can also lead to problem gambling. Many people find it hard to walk away and end up chasing losses, which can be a slippery slope. Operators are doing more to raise awareness about problem gambling and the signs of addiction, as well as implementing measures like daily deposit limits and time limits to control spending.
These are currently a few of the biggest trends in the iGaming market. It’s amazing to see the growth of this market in recent times, and there are continuous trends and developments happening. This can make it hard to keep pace, so hopefully, this post has helped you have a better understanding of what’s happening in 2024.
The TranyaGO Smartwatch is a versatile and user-friendly device. Moreover, it has a fantastic battery life and can be used to track a plethora of common sports. Accordingly, this is the ideal choice for on-the-go people who want to track their activities. Alternatively, maybe you wish to understand your heart rate or count your calories and steps in one day. Either way, this watch will tick many boxes.
Alongside this, it is available in 3 colours (silver is a USA exclusive), and it looks stylish on your wrist. Furthermore, the robust materials are built to last. Consequently, this watch can take a beating and still work perfectly. Additionally, it is available for $99.99 so you get a lot of tech for a relatively low price. Subsequently, this will pique the interest of budget-savvy consumers.
What’s in the box of the TranyaGO Smartwatch?
The sleek packaging is lightweight but sturdy. Furthermore, the monochromatic finish is eye-catching and professional. What’s more, it can be recycled, so that’s a massive plus.
The TranyaGO Smartwatch looks similar to an Apple Watch. The moderate-sized watch face has limited buttons and the rubberised strap is comfortable. Additionally, the touchscreen is responsive and pleasant to use.
Charge the device with the rubberised charging cable.
Learn the basics with the user manual.
Technical aspects.
My go-to sports watch is the Garmin Fenix Pro 6. However, I was impressed with the accuracy, battery life, and user-friendly approach of the TranyaGO Smartwatch. Moreover, the GloryFit App helps you to connect your apps and other essential tools to your watch. As such, if you want to stay connected when running, walking, or cycling, this is the perfect option.
With 24 sports to choose from, you can track your elevation, pace, mileage, calories, steps, heart rate, and much, much more. What’s more, the clear screen makes it easy to keep on top of every important data field. Yet, if you want a watch that tells the time while tracking some basic lifestyle elements, then this is the device for you. Your steps, calories, and heart rate are continuously monitored. Furthermore, you won’t even know it’s tracking you as the main watch face can be customised to your liking.
I appreciated the simplicity as my Garmin tends to be overbearing. Instead, the TranyaGo Smartwatch simplifies things without undermining its quality or data tracking features. Accordingly, if you love the idea of counting calories, but you are a bit of a technophobe, then this is the watch for you.
Usability.
A sports watch that is all-singing and all-dancing is a phenomenal thing. However, if you can’t use it, then it is pointless. Thankfully, this watch is as good and as user-friendly as the Tranya S2 Smartwatch. Thanks to the excellent UI and the wonderful GloryFit App, you never feel out of your depth. Moreover, the slick touchscreen is responsive and easy-to-understand. As such, if you wish to flick between data fields or you want to select a sport, it can be done with ease.
Alongside this, you can use this device to control your music or help you to take pictures on your phone. Consequently, this is ideal if you want to keep your hands free, or you wish to take a selfie without touching your screen.
Build quality.
If you are as passionate about sport as I am, you will want your sports gear to be bombproof. Thankfully, this watch is hard-wearing, and the rubberised wrist strap is comfortable even when you get sweaty. Moreover, I had no issues with dirt or rainwater. On top of this, the watch never moved when used for swimming or other water sports. Accordingly, this is a multi-sports device that will not let you down.
Talking of water sports, the TranyaGO Smartwatch has an IP68 waterproof guarantee. As such, you may use this watch in the water without worrying about it getting damaged or invalidating your 15-month warranty. Subsequently, you do not need to remove this watch if you jump in the sea or the shower after your sweat-inducing activities.
Is the TranyaGo Smartwatch worth it?
If you are a hardcore athlete, this watch doesn’t offer enough. Yet, if you are a casual sportsperson who needs a range of detailed data fields, then this will be right up your street. Alternatively, you may wish to have an all-rounder watch that tracks your lifestyle data while keeping you in contact with your Facebook, Snapchat, or Messenger. Either way, this device is affordable, comfortable, stylish, and jam-packed with features. Consequently, I love it and I recommend buying it here!
Asterix and Obelix Slap Them All! 2 is a colourful and silly adventure title. Moreover, it carries on from where its predecessor finished. This was a title that I scored 6/10 as I noted several issues with repetitive gameplay mechanics. Furthermore, it didn’t take risks and that annoyed me. Consequently, I was hopeful that this sequel would step up to the mark and push the boundaries.
This beat ’em up adventure title was developed by Mr Nutz Studio and published by Microids. Furthermore, it integrates a witty script with some stunning comic book elements. Accordingly, if you love the franchise, or you want mindless action, this will tick many boxes.
Asterix and Obelix Slap Them All! 2 has a silly plot.
In typical Asterix and Obelix fashion, the story is filled with innuendos, adult humour, and stupid comments. Furthermore, the era-specific environments and questionable historical references will make you laugh. Subsequently, Asterix and Obelix Slap Them All! 2 will make you smile even though it is repetitive and lacking in depth.
The Lutetia golden eagle has been stolen, and an innocent man is framed. However, the heroes will not allow this to happen. As such, Justforkix is told to hide in the village. Determined to free the prisoner, the pair head to Lutece to straighten things up. En route, they encounter swathes of Roman Legions and a host of angry peasants. Accordingly, they must use their skills to annihilate everyone and save the day.
Repetitive action.
Unlike its predecessor, Asterix and Obelix Slap Them All! 2 has a more complex fighting system. Additionally, it introduces a charged attack to make things more interesting. However, at its core, it is unfortunately repetitive, and it is far too simple. This lack of difficulty is painfully underwhelming and makes the action mundane and tough to swallow.
Alongside this, every boss and fight can be completed with zero consideration. Though you can swap between each hero, I spent my time playing as Asterix. His overpowered pick-up and spin attack makes you practically invincible. Consequently, you smash every foe you face and there is no risk and even less reward.
Disappointingly, Asterix and Obelix Slap Them All! 2 fails to evolve. Though its predecessor was lacking, the sequel fails to address these issues. Yes, it is playable, and the one-liners are amusing. However, I spent more time huffing and sighing than I did having fun. This was a bitter experience as I expected much more from the developers.
Asterix and Obelix Slap Them All! 2 looks great.
Though I hate its shortcomings, Asterix and Obelix Slap Them All! 2 looks amazing! The stylish comic book effects and the clean lines have a modern polish. Additionally, the varied backgrounds are interesting and fun to explore. On top of this, though the action is linear, you are free to explore minor off-shooting paths. Subsequently, some exploration elements add a layer of interest.
The audio is fun but annoying. The one-liners will make you laugh, but they quickly become repetitive and mundane. Furthermore, the crunching sound effects are overbearing and uncomfortable to listen to. Accordingly, you stop listening to the sound effects and sound bites and that was unfortunate.
Straightforward controls.
Where Asterix and Obelix Slap Them All! 2 excels is its straightforward controls. The well-considered control layout was easy to understand and simple to master. Furthermore, the responsive inputs help when the screen is filled with Romans and peasants.
Though this can be played cooperatively, it doesn’t prevent it from becoming tiresome and tedious. Consequently, whether you play this alone or with another, you will struggle to endure more than an hour of mindless action.
Asterix and Obelix Slap Them All! 2 should have been better.
I had high expectations, but they were never met. Additionally, none of the shortcomings of its predecessor were addressed. As such, though the plot and exceptional graphics will impress you, little else will. Asterix and Obelix Slap Them All! 2 disappointed me and I cannot recommend buying it. However, more information can be found here! Can you free the prisoner? Explore the world, fight the Romans, and complete your arduous adventure.

Tekken 8 is the latest iteration of a much-loved franchise. However, this modern instalment is a vast improvement over recent additions. This isn’t to say Tekken 7 fell short of expectations, because it didn’t. Instead, the subtle changes and minor improvements didn’t stand out as I wanted. Thankfully, though, this game obliterates its predecessors whilst offering something for newcomers to the genre.
This arcade fighting title was published and developed by Bandai Namco. Furthermore, its cross-play functionality ensures that you can play this with friends no matter what machine they game on. Alternatively, you can play this by yourself as you aim to win the King of Iron Fist tournament. Either way, you’ll lose yourself in the manic 1V1 vivid arena combat.
Tekken 8 tells an incredible story.
If you are new to the franchise, you will struggle with the subplots and character relationships. Consequently, this may put some people off. However, the developer has done a fantastic job of punctuating the action with story-rich and interesting cinematics. Accordingly, if you have somehow missed this awesome fighting game, you’ll be up to speed in no time.
The story focuses on the tragic saga of the Mishima and Kazama bloodlines. Set 6 months after the closure of the last match, Tekken 8 highlights Jin Kazama’s growth and determination in the latest twist to an epic saga. However, if this amazing story doesn’t get your juices flowing, you can create your story in the Arcade Quest mode. Here, you’ll embark on a new Tekken life as you customise an avatar of your creation.
Incredible gameplay.
The mindless, button-bashing approach of this genre is often off-putting. However, Tekken 8 has a layer of finesse that must be admired. Thanks to the fast-paced action and intelligent combo attacks, you will need to think carefully as you tackle every opponent. Moreover, each protagonist has a set of skills and strengths and weaknesses that must be utilised and exploited. Accordingly, there is some tactical nuance if you wish to master this title.
The combination of ground-level attacks and mid-air punches is a marvel to witness. Alongside this, the incorporation of magical blows and 3D action keeps you on your toes. Furthermore, the destructible environment and a sense of danger and despair keep you playing, no matter how doomed your chances appear. It was this sense of risk and reward that made the action so moreish. If you then combine this with solo or online action, you get an incredible addition to the genre that will impress both veterans and newcomers alike.
New and old faces.
Bandai Namco has done a phenomenal job of integrating new and old characters into this interesting world. Additionally, some fascinating new mechanics change the way you plan your approach. Whether it is the Rage attack or your one-off Heat special, players can change the course of each encounter. The latter option can be played once per round. This all-powerful attack can give you a welcome head start or can be used to stop the pummelling blows of a talented opponent. Either way, you must be wise, as you do not wish to waste this impressive game-changing skill.
Rage is a twist on a system introduced in Tekken 6. This option is activated once your health drops to a certain level. As you lay breathless and beaten, you can activate this unbelievably powerful ability. Furthermore, the incredible artistry of each character’s combinations will impress the toughest of critics. Whether it is a flurry of blows, a fiery kick, or a combination of both, it will not fail to impress.
Fast-paced and smooth action.
I’ve played many games in this genre and I often find myself beaten within an inch of my life. Unfortunately, there is no room for error and every mistake is punished. Thankfully, Tekken 8 feels more forgiving even if the gameplay is undeniably rapid. The maddening kicks and combinations often leave you stunned and confused. Yet, you never feel out of your depth, and you always have a chance of being victorious.
No matter which game mode you select, the action is smooth and enjoyable. Furthermore, the characters are varied and there is a distinct difference between gameplay styles and strengths and weaknesses. This is where it excels when compared with its peers. There is the ability to select a fast-hitting but underpowered warrior or a slower tank-type character that absorbs blow after blow. Alternatively, you can pick someone who bends the laws of time and physics as they fly through the air without concern. Either way, you will find a suitable hero to match your playstyle.
Tekken 8 looks incredible.
I was blown away by the rich colours and highly detailed character models. On top of this, the cinematic was phenomenal and the arenas did not fail to impress. If you then consider the incredible animation, varied heroes, and spectacular combo attacks, this destroys every other fighting game. Alongside this, the sense of magic and wonderment of every cut scene was awesome. In short, this is a fighting game that will be talked about for a long time.
The audio was unbelievably good! The use of native language for each of the characters adds an authentic touch and depth to the story. Moreover, the ear-splitting soundtrack and thumping sound effects crash into your eardrums and kick your brain around your skull. The often overbearing noises complement the action, adding energy and drama to the core plot.
Incredible controls.
I had the pleasure of combining this game with the amazing Dark Matter Arcade Fighting Stick. The result was a smooth and realistic arcade experience that cannot be beaten. Thanks to the intuitive layout, responsive inputs, and helpful on-screen instructions, you feel in control. On top of this, though there is a sense of button-bashing, it isn’t mindless or boring. Instead, you focus on hitting each combo whilst unleashing either your Heat or Rage attacks.
Though fighting games aren’t for everyone, they demand a high-level following. Subsequently, if you fall for their charms, you easily become hooked on the arcade action. Thankfully, Tekken 8 blows its opponents out of the water. Additionally, the combination of game modes and the roster of varied characters ensure that you have plenty to see and do. Consequently, there is both replay value and longevity.
Tekken 8 is nearly perfect.
When a game nears perfection, you can afford to be more critical. My only complaint about Tekken 8 is the subplot of the minor protagonists. Unfortunately, it is occasionally hard to tell how each new player fits into the main story. Furthermore, some characters lack depth and that could have easily been addressed. However, this issue is minor and rarely impacts the flow of the story. Accordingly, I love it and I recommend buying it here! Enjoy a fresh take on a much-loved franchise. Pick a fighter, master their moves, and become a world-renowned warrior.

I’ve never seen a game lay down all of its cards faster than Bloodhound. It made my head spin, to tell you the truth. I felt like I’d just pressed play and I was being handed dual sawn-off shotguns. I suppose I shouldn’t complain about that, but it’s a symptom of a big problem that plagues Bloodhound: the pacing just isn’t there. It’s so excited to get this over with that it just dumps all of its content in the middle of the room and rolls the credits the moment it runs out of ideas.
I feel like we’re coming to the end of the ‘Boomer Shooter‘ wave these days. Bloodhound may have gotten a more favourable showing had it come out last year. There is creativity on display here, after all, particularly when it comes to the monsters. Unfortunately, it suffers a lot in the moment-to-moment gameplay. It’s difficult to pin down, but in games like these, it’s all about how the guns feel. If your shotgun doesn’t feel and sound like you’ve just unleashed a teeny-tiny nuclear bomb, then it isn’t getting a pass.
Raising Hell
Boomer shooters aren’t known for beating around the bush. They’re meant to resemble games like Doom after all. Not much plot there. Bloodhound opens with some comic panels, featuring some motorcycle man shooting up a bunch of people. Are we him? Probably. Who cares. Importantly, we’re then handed a revolver and told to mow down hordes of demons. That’s more like it. From there, we roll over a couple of bosses in pursuit of the big leader, Astaroth.
First (and second to be honest) impressions were rather mixed. Let’s start with the good bits. I like the different variety of demons on display. We’ve got faceless blokes with sickles and hooded cultists with machine guns, for starters. We quickly move on to demonic cupids, naked demon ladies with swords and one weird monster with a clown face that keeps turning into a naked woman. Fun times. There’s a decent spread of weapons too, covering everything from bullets, to rockets, to big, glowing energy balls. You can go akimbo with most of the guns too. I will always celebrate akimbo.
Bloodhound‘s big problem is that it really doesn’t know how to pace itself. There’s a few different pieces of evidence for this. First, let me lay out the general progression in these sorts of shooters. You start off with a pea-shooter, but this is compensated by weak enemies. After a few rounds of that, it’ll bring in a stronger enemy. To make up for that, you get a stronger weapon and so on until you’re fighting collossal enemies with a mega-rocket launcher. Bloodhound doesn’t follow that formula.
Slow Down A Bit
Instead, Bloodhound handed me twin shotguns about twenty-five minutes into things. At that point, they could kill most enemies in one hit. Its spread even stopped the flying enemies, snapping what challenge was left over its knee. When it brought in the glowing ball gun, it was all over. That thing could kill every non-boss enemy in one hit and recharged ammo by itself. I feel like I shouldn’t have to say this, but the BFG should not recharge. That just renders every gun – and enemy – pointless. This bizarre gun-to-enemy pacing meant I breezed through things. Bloodhound would introduce a new enemy, then BAM. A shotgun shell later and it’s gone.
What’s more, while the guns have a lot of potential, they don’t feel that great to use. Part of that might be the strange screen wobble when firing, but a lot of it is down to sound and enemy reaction. The sound design isn’t the best. The shotgun sounds like me coughing and there’s little indication of damage, until someone cues in the enemy death animation. When I blast a shotgun at someone, I want them to recoil – not just grin at me and keep throwing fireballs.
That said, I do like the death animations. Each enemy has a unique one, like the hooded lads that fire off their gun as they die. But to get back on the complain train, I feel like Bloodhound misses one of the central points of boomer shooters: exploration. There are secrets, but these are easily found. Instead, Bloodhound consists of a sequence of arenas, where enemies spawn in waves, and a few coloured key doors to seperate them. Everything ends up feeling very claustrophobic.
Bloodhound – Short But Sour
I suspect some of my sour feelings are from the fact that Bloodhound only sticks around for about two-and-a-half hours. Quite short for £11. It was crying out for some sort of arena mode to pad things out, but sadly not. It’s a shame because there’s some nice design on play. Enemies are good and the music isn’t half bad. If it slowed things down a bit and stretched out its environments, it could be great. Well, that and tweaking the sound design a bit.
As it stands, Bloodhound is decidedly middle-of-the-road. Not offensively bad (outside of the price tag at least), but doesn’t do enough to stand out in a thoroughly saturated genre. Destined to fall down behind the sofa cushions. A shame, really. There is evidence of talent on display here and the hope is that the developers can take when they’ve learned and push things further in their next game. Sadly though, not even the promise of bare, demonic breasts can breathe life into Bloodhound.
Forest Grove instantly piqued my interest. This mystery adventure title sets the scene perfectly. Moreover, the whodunnit gameplay captures your attention. However, its repetitive action and lack of creativity prevent it from excelling. Additionally, many of the puzzles are too straightforward. As such, it wasn’t as complex as I hoped.
This walking simulation detective title was developed by Miga Games and published by Blowfish Studios. What’s more, it is laced with problem-solving and many methodical moments. Accordingly, it takes a logical mindset to progress past each puzzle. Yet, a lack of difficulty will annoy veterans of the genre.
Forest Grove tells a familiar tale with a twist.
I adore a sci-fi twist to a familiar tale. Consequently, when Forest Grove’s story unravelled, I couldn’t help but smile. The core plot is as old as the hills. However, its futuristic twist adds an unusual element to the mix. Additionally, the blend of modern and unknown technology lets your imagination run wild.
You are an investigator who must piece together the mystery of a missing girl. Zooey Kunstimatigaard, the heiress to a billionaire’s wealth, has gone missing. Subsequently, fearing for the worst, her stepmother Mary reports all she knows to the police. Unfortunately, though, no matter how hard they try, they cannot solve the case. This is where you step in. Using technology that was designed by Zooey’s father, you must enter a virtual world and investigate every clue you find. In doing so, you’ll highlight the crimes that have been committed whilst closing this cold case.
Plenty of clues.
In typical investigatory fashion, every item is suspicious. Your task is to search every room and decipher the real clues from the mess. Moreover, you must link DNA, fingerprints, and other damning evidence to work out what has happened. En route, you will need to find keys, solve puzzles, and unlock blocked pathways. Additionally, there are voice clips to clean up and fragments of information to piece together.
On top of this, you are equipped with a drone. You may use this to observe holographic images of people at the scene. When you combine these facts, it allows you to work your evidence board. From here, you can work out what crimes have been committed. As you process around 95% of the clues on offer, you can return to your office and start pointing fingers.
The interesting part of the finale is there are many crimes to tidy up. As such, there are many people to arrest and things can go wrong pretty quickly. However, if you have somehow made a mistake, you can return to your last save and rectify any errors.
Forest Grove is far too easy.
It was this forgiving nature that undermined the whole process. Furthermore, if you cannot solve the crime, you can guess your way to a solution. This simplicity matched with the repetitive nature of the gameplay loop ruined an otherwise interesting experience. Consequently, the developers should have made things much harder. Furthermore, the level design and puzzles should have been more complex.
Forest Grove is nicely polished.
Though the core mechanics annoyed me, I loved the artistry. Forest Grove has a sinister and oppressive futuristic finish. Moreover, the virtual world flickers and fades to highlight its false reality. When you combine this with the dark colour palette and well-detailed clues, it is great to look at but uncomfortable to play.
The audio, on the other hand, is more refined. There is a sense of emptiness and a lack of warmth that is horribly clinical. Additionally, the sound effects are mechanical and lack a natural edge. This was a deliberate choice by the developers as it highlights the futuristic tone of the theme.
Twitchy controls.
The game is played from a first-person perspective. What’s more, there is a heavy reliance on the cursor to select every item. However, there is a lack of fluidity and this creates a twitchy feel to the action. I believe that this was created for PC and the console version was an afterthought. Sadly, this was disappointing as it made the action less immersive.
Forest Grove is painfully short. Yes, there are a lot of clues to discover, but there is little depth otherwise. Moreover, the repetitive action compounds this issue further and the simplicity of each problem makes it a breeze to access locked spaces. Subsequently, this lacks replay value and longevity.
Forest Grove was disappointing.
The developers pieced together some interesting ideas. However, the execution, controls, and core gameplay loop were disappointing. I desperately wanted this to grab my attention, but it never did. As such, I cannot recommend it. Yet, more information can be found here! Will you solve the mystery? Find the clues, solve the puzzles, and point some fingers.
