Asterix and Obelix Slap Them All! 2 is a colourful and silly adventure title. Moreover, it carries on from where its predecessor finished. This was a title that I scored 6/10 as I noted several issues with repetitive gameplay mechanics. Furthermore, it didn’t take risks and that annoyed me. Consequently, I was hopeful that this sequel would step up to the mark and push the boundaries.
This beat ’em up adventure title was developed by Mr Nutz Studio and published by Microids. Furthermore, it integrates a witty script with some stunning comic book elements. Accordingly, if you love the franchise, or you want mindless action, this will tick many boxes.

Asterix and Obelix Slap Them All! 2 has a silly plot.
In typical Asterix and Obelix fashion, the story is filled with innuendos, adult humour, and stupid comments. Furthermore, the era-specific environments and questionable historical references will make you laugh. Subsequently, Asterix and Obelix Slap Them All! 2 will make you smile even though it is repetitive and lacking in depth.
The Lutetia golden eagle has been stolen, and an innocent man is framed. However, the heroes will not allow this to happen. As such, Justforkix is told to hide in the village. Determined to free the prisoner, the pair head to Lutece to straighten things up. En route, they encounter swathes of Roman Legions and a host of angry peasants. Accordingly, they must use their skills to annihilate everyone and save the day.

Repetitive action.
Unlike its predecessor, Asterix and Obelix Slap Them All! 2 has a more complex fighting system. Additionally, it introduces a charged attack to make things more interesting. However, at its core, it is unfortunately repetitive, and it is far too simple. This lack of difficulty is painfully underwhelming and makes the action mundane and tough to swallow.
Alongside this, every boss and fight can be completed with zero consideration. Though you can swap between each hero, I spent my time playing as Asterix. His overpowered pick-up and spin attack makes you practically invincible. Consequently, you smash every foe you face and there is no risk and even less reward.
Disappointingly, Asterix and Obelix Slap Them All! 2 fails to evolve. Though its predecessor was lacking, the sequel fails to address these issues. Yes, it is playable, and the one-liners are amusing. However, I spent more time huffing and sighing than I did having fun. This was a bitter experience as I expected much more from the developers.
Asterix and Obelix Slap Them All! 2 looks great.
Though I hate its shortcomings, Asterix and Obelix Slap Them All! 2 looks amazing! The stylish comic book effects and the clean lines have a modern polish. Additionally, the varied backgrounds are interesting and fun to explore. On top of this, though the action is linear, you are free to explore minor off-shooting paths. Subsequently, some exploration elements add a layer of interest.
The audio is fun but annoying. The one-liners will make you laugh, but they quickly become repetitive and mundane. Furthermore, the crunching sound effects are overbearing and uncomfortable to listen to. Accordingly, you stop listening to the sound effects and sound bites and that was unfortunate.

Straightforward controls.
Where Asterix and Obelix Slap Them All! 2 excels is its straightforward controls. The well-considered control layout was easy to understand and simple to master. Furthermore, the responsive inputs help when the screen is filled with Romans and peasants.
Though this can be played cooperatively, it doesn’t prevent it from becoming tiresome and tedious. Consequently, whether you play this alone or with another, you will struggle to endure more than an hour of mindless action.
Asterix and Obelix Slap Them All! 2 should have been better.
I had high expectations, but they were never met. Additionally, none of the shortcomings of its predecessor were addressed. As such, though the plot and exceptional graphics will impress you, little else will. Asterix and Obelix Slap Them All! 2 disappointed me and I cannot recommend buying it.
