Forza Horizon December IGN Car Park details revealed

0

Forza Horizon gives players intense action racing experiences on the wide open roads of Colorado and the December IGN Car Pack serves up even more thrills with some truly unique cars. Available Tuesday, 4th December on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace, the December IGN Car Pack’s limited-production exotics and all-conquering off-roaders can tackle any of the diverse road surfaces of Forza Horizon.

Ford

The December IGN Car Pack for Forza Horizon includes six vehicles (plus one free car available to all Forza Horizon players) that cover the spectrum of automotive excitement and will put a smile on any car enthusiast’s face:

· 2011 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor Halo Edition

Fans of the “Halo” series will appreciate this elaborate skin celebrating one of the most anticipated titles in years. Talented designers at 343 Industries, developers of “Halo 4,” crafted this special UNSC-grade livery for the 2011 Ford SVT Raptor, and it will be a welcome addition to any “Forza Horizon” garage.

· 2008 Aston Martin DBS

ASton

The Aston Martin DBS and the most famous spy in the world go hand-in-hand. The original DBS made its initial appearance in “Her Majesty’s Secret Service” in 1969. The new DBS sports a massaged 510 horsepower V-12, a clean air splitting body kit, and significant lightening. No details have been left unattended – as should be expected from a supercar fit for a superspy.

· 2012 Ferrari F12berlinetta

Ferrari

Ferrari’s fastest road car ever can not only defeat a Ferrari Enzo or 599 GTO on the track, it is also a superlative GT car. The 730 horsepower V-12 sounds feral from idle to redline, and its power delivery is ferocious at any RPM, yet it is as behaved and composed as any proper Ferrari tourer. A contradiction? A quick drive shows that the F12berlinetta can do it all.

· 2006 Ford GTX1

GTX1

Styled after the 1966 Sebring-winning Ford GTX roadster and built specifically for the 2006 SEMA show, the Ford GTX1 offers a functional and versatile top as well as brutal performance. The rear clamshell showcases the nearly 700 horsepower 5.4 litre supercharged V-8, while just behind the engine two buttresses flow dramatically rearward. This rare beast takes the Ford GT to a new level of exclusivity.

· 2006 Hummer H1 Alpha Open Top

Hummer

So long as practicality is not part of the argument, the Hummer H1 is unquestionably the most dominant and capable off-road vehicle ever created. Demanding attention from any passerby, this unapologetic behemoth can conquer any terrain. Its 300 horsepower and advanced 4×4 system are perfectly suited to tackling anything that dares to stand before it.

· 1993 McLaren F1

Mclaren

Conceived by Gordon Murray to bring Bruce McLaren’s dream of a McLaren road car to life, the McLaren F1 exceeded all expectations and set multiple speed records upon release. With its central driver’s seat and 6.1 litre, 627 horsepower BMW-built V-12, the F1 is still the fastest naturally aspirated car ever created. Its one million dollar price tag also made it the most expensive car of its time.

· 1971 AMC Javelin-AMX (available as a free download to all Forza Horizon players)

AMC

Capitalizing on Mark Donahue’s stunning successes driving a Javelin in the SCCA Trans Am Series, AMC sought to ingrain more performance into their perceived brand identity. With the AMX package and the 401 V8, the Javelin AMX came alive. It was advertised as having 330 horsepower and could achieve mid-14 second quarter mile times. The Javelin AMX is a classic muscle car and one of the last of its kind.

The December IGN Car Pack will be available on Tuesday, 4th December on the Xbox LIVE marketplace for 400 Microsoft Points.

Rule the Open Road With the Forza Horizon Season Pass: The “Forza Horizon” Season Pass is your all-access pass to six monthly game add-on packs as they’re released through the next year, as well as the Forza Horizon Rally Expansion Pack, coming to Xbox LIVE on 18th December. Players can purchase the Season Pass on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace and at participating retailers for 4,000 Microsoft Points. Season Pass owners will also receive five exclusive cars, with one car being released per month through until March.

Hit the Road Today: Forza Horizon is available in a Standard Edition (£49.99 ERP) and Limited Collector’s Edition (£59.99 ERP) and is rated PEGI 12. The Limited Collector’s Edition offers exclusive content, including the “Month 1” Car Pack and “VIP” Car Pack, as well as additional downloadable content, and VIP membership status.

Windows Phone 7.8 coming in early 2013

There have been lots of rumours and speculation about when Microsoft will be releasing Windows Phone 7.8 and now they have posted on their blog that its coming early 2013.

StartScreen_Elizabeth_books2ND_thumb_71FBF185

This is part of the blog post Microsoft put up yesterday:

But it’s not just Windows Phone 8 users that get to enjoy the new Start screen. As previously announced, with Windows Phone 7.8 we’re also bringing the feature to existing Windows Phone 7.5 devices. During the development process, I used builds of 7.8 on my Lumia 900 and it felt like a completely new phone: resizable Live Tiles totally change the way I do things, providing faster access to more of my favorite people, photos, and apps.

Windows Phone 7.8 also includes some other cool stuff. It doubles the number of theme and accent colors—to 20—so you can make your phone even more personal. There are also new lock screen features: the option to automatically display the Bing Picture of the Day plus the ‘A1B2C3’ PIN/password challenge to prevent accidental device wipes on phones connected to Exchange accounts.

And there are new apps coming for Windows Phone 7.5 and 7.8 customers. The hugely popular Words with Friends and Draw Something are already available, while Angry Birds Space and Angry Birds Star Wars are on the way.

New models running Windows Phone 7.8 are beginning to launch in many countries around the world, strengthening the ecosystem by bringing more Windows Phones to more people. These devices will typically be sold at a range of lower price points, meaning there will now be Windows Phones for everyone’s budget and need. This is incredibly important for broadening the reach of Windows Phone across the globe and ensuring we have the right product for every market.

Speaking of broader reach, Windows Phone 7.8 also expands the number of markets where customers can buy apps and use the Xbox service. Testing of this rollout is ongoing, but we’ve already managed to increase our global service coverage by over 30%, to 95 countries—a number that should continue to rise.

We know you’re eager to get the Windows Phone 7.8 update, and we want you to know that we’re working closely with our hardware and carrier partners to get it tested, approved, and rolled out to as many devices as possible in early 2013. As we work to quickly get this in the hands of our loyal users, we’re also striving to deliver a high-quality release and ensure a smooth transition for our widely expanded services.

Are you excited for Windows Phone 7.8? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Microsoft is Working on a New Operating System Codenamed ‘Windows Blue’

Microsoft is working on new operating system codenamed ‘Windows Blue’ which will be released in mid-2013, according to The Verge.

The update on the Windows side, due in mid-2013, will include UI changes and alterations to the entire platform and pricing. We’re told that Microsoft is aiming to make Windows Blue the next OS that everyone installs. The approach is simple, Microsoft will price its next Windows release at a low cost or even free to ensure users upgrade.

Once Windows Blue is released, the Windows SDK will be updated to support the new release and Microsoft will stop accepting apps that are built specifically for Windows 8, pushing developers to create apps for Blue. Windows 8 apps will continue to run on Blue despite the planned SDK changes.

Windows Blue will reportedly kick off an annual release schedule for Microsoft similar to the frequency with which Apple updates its operating system.

And here is the press release:

November 6, 2012

Today LaCie announced an all-new network storage solution that connects the entire family to their music, movie and photo files. The LaCie CloudBox stores files in a single location so family members can easily share them with friends, and access them from anywhere on any device.

ONE-PLUG, ONE-CLICK SETUP

The LaCie CloudBox makes setup worry-free thanks to its two-step set-up process. Simply plug the LaCie CloudBox into a power outlet and connect the Ethernet cable into a router. The LaCie CloudBox does the rest with no software to install. In just a few minutes, the LaCie CloudBox will appear on the user’s Mac® or PC just like a connected device.

SHARE WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS

With the LaCie CloudBox, all files are stored in one place, enabling convenient file access and sharing. The CloudBox includes UPnP™ capability so Dad can stream Zombie movies to the Xbox 360®, iPad®, or any network-connected computer and TV.
Sister can use LaCie’s MyNAS application to access her brother’s dubstep music collection from her college dorm room. Once brother grants her access to the music folder, she can play files directly from her desktop or smart phone.
Mom can share her photo albums with out-of-town family and friends by sharing a secure download link. She doesn’t have to worry about privacy or size limitations. All the files are under her full control. Plus, parents can create private folders to keep business and tax files safe from prying eyes.

FILES ARE SAFE AT HOME OR ON THE GO

The LaCie CloudBox goes beyond the home network. It can automatically back up multiple computers in the home. The included backup software for PC and Mac helps the family ensure all zombie movies, music collections and family photos are backed up should they experience a laptop, phone or tablet crash or loss. And for families that are always out and about, the LaCie CloudBox ensures they can access files from any network-connected smart phone, tablet or laptop. They never have to worry about syncing the latest music download because the files are always accessible.

EE in the UK Updates Mobile Broadband Plans

0

EE, the UK cellular operator behind the Orange and T-Mobile brands, has announced some updated mobile broadband plans starting on November 30th.  Read on for details.

Brand-logosV3_308x173

EE, the UK cellular operator behind the Orange and T-Mobile brands, has announced some updated mobile broadband plans starting on November 30th.  EE has left pricing the same, but have increased data allowances by 60%, and have also added a SIM-free option.  Here is the press release:

28th November, 2012, London – EE, the UK’s most advanced digital communications company, today announced updates to its 4GEE Mobile Broadband offering, increasing data allowance on plans and launching a range of new options to give customers more choice.

More data, same price

The 4GEE Mobile Broadband plans now include data allowances increased by around 60%, with no rise in monthly fee. The 2GB plan now becomes a 3GB allowance, with the 3GB plan increasing to 5GB, and the 5GB allowance now extending to 8GB. All existing 4GEE customers will be automatically upgraded to the new data allowances, with no increase in their monthly fee, allowing them to get more out of superfast 4G at no extra cost.

More plans, more choice

EE is also launching a range of new 4GEE Mobile Broadband plans to offer customers greater choice. A new one month SIM only plan offers 5GB of data for £15.99, with the first month free for customers signing up before 23rd December. Customers wishing to include a 4GEE Dongle or Mobile Wi-Fi device can choose from 30 day plans, or 18 and 24 month plans, starting at £12.99 per month for 1GB.

Pippa Dunn, Chief Marketing Officer – Consumer, EE, said:

“These updates underline our commitment to offering customers the best value and choice from our plans. We recognise Superfast 4GEE opens up a range of possibilities for our customers from browsing to gaming to HD movie streaming so it’s right that we increase the breadth of our plans to meet everyone’s needs. And customers signing up to our £15.99 5GB SIM only plan get great value whether they’re on 4G or 3G, and they will receive their first month free.”

4GEE is available in 11 UK cities today – London, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield and Glasgow (and parts of Southampton). A further five cities will be covered by the end of the year – Belfast, Derby, Hull, Nottingham, Newcastle. EE is aiming for 98% of the UK population to be covered by the end of 2014.

Some complained about the pricing for the data allowance and the absence of a SIM-free option, so I suspect that this will be welcome news.  Are you planning on signing up with EE?

Get ready for the next battle! Tekken: Tag Tournament 2 Review

0

Japanese style cut scenes and super humans immune to bullet fire and explosions resorting to beating the living crap out of each other for our entertainment. You have to love Japanese video games. I think I even saw my PS3 smile a little. So, lets see if Namco’s sequel to one of the most popular Tekken games ever is up to scratch.

CHARCTERS

Arguably the most important part of any beat-em-up is the characters. I’ve always loved the variation in the characters in Tekken ranging from lighting fast Ling Xiaoyu to impossibly old man in robes Wang. And it will be no surprise to returning Tekken players to find a dinosaur, a robot, a kangaroo, a tree and two bears on the roster along with the “normal” characters.

Out of the box Tekken Tag 2 includes a truly massive 49 characters and free characters keep cropping up (on my last count 59 are available!). As ever the characters are all brilliantly well-crafted and unique. They are also all unlocked at the start so as soon as you play a game you will be presented with a truly impressive and daunting selection to make.

One of my favourite parts of Tekken is learning a characters combat style and moves and really feeling like you’ve mastered their style and Tekken Tag 2 doesn’t disappoint.

GAME MODES

Arcade mode is the usual affair where you progress through a series of fights and then fight a special boss at the end. This time around Jun Kazama is the big bad boss. The final boss is challenging but not insurmountable although it can get frustrating at times because she has a truly wonderful one hit KO move. Time Attack mode also returns which is basically the same as Arcade except you are given an overall time at the end.

Ghost mode is a continuous string of battles getting increasingly more difficult and ranking up your chosen characters which attempts to mimic an online environment. Unfortunately the difficulty ramped far too quickly for me and even on easy the computer inevitably reached a point where it was essentially on hard. Basically I could no longer progress through ghost mode with certain characters which are inevitably the ones I want to do it with. It does increase your skill and make you play at a higher level but only to a certain extent because, well, I’m human and unfortunately there’s a limit to my skill!

Feeling slightly disappointed I moved to good old practice mode for a bit of a tune up. Practice mode is great and the amount of options in there will allow you to do pretty much anything you want. It is genuinely useful and a great way to learn a characters style or brush up on a particular activity such as counters or blocking as you can change the options so the AI will allow you to do so.

Survival pits your chosen character or tag team against a sequence of enemy’s until you’re defeated at which point you are politely informed how many matches you won and weather you need more practice. I usually did “Need More Practice” as I didn’t get very far but it’s still good fun.

Team Battle is another favourite of mine and allows you to choose a team size of between one and eight made up of any characters you wish and then battle elimination style until one team is knocked out completely.

DIFFICULTY

The difficulty of Tekken changes a lot depending on whether you have the patch. Pre patch the game was very difficult even on easier difficulties. Post patch easy became, well, easy. This may seem obvious but I really don’t know why easy wasn’t easy in the first place as there are enough difficulties present to still provide a challenge for the ambitious but without ruining it for people who aren’t. Post patch the difficulty is not a problem and while I’m sure no one will complain that it’s too easy on high difficulties it should be playable by all.

ON-LINE

Let’s venture online to see how much better everyone else is than me at Tekken! The game usually finds another player for you to fight with a decent connection after a little wait, it’s not quick but you shouldn’t get too bored. Lag seems OK and doesn’t take the blame for my losses every time. However I have yet to be matched against someone I can have a decent match with. The rank of my opponent is usually “Beginner” despite the fact that they wield some serious Tekken skills. I have no problem with people being a lot better than me but why can’t I have a round with someone of my own skill level? It seems to me that the on-line multiplayer is off limits to those unsure of their skills.

PROGRESSION & CUSTOMIZATION

After any of these matches you will earn G that you can spend on customization items for your characters. The amount you earn depends on the game mode you play but you will need to play a lot to get any of the items. A shirt costs about 900,000G! I have no idea where these people shop but you literally need to be a multimillionaire to get a t-shirt and a pair of shoes. That being said the customization options are in-depth and extensive.

PLOT

The fight lab is a new mode to Tekken Tag 2 and offers a loosely “plot” driven sequence of training sessions where you play as a robot called Combot. You participate in the various challenges set out before you, such as only being able to hit enemies with high, mid or low attacks. As you progress the Combot can be upgraded and you can select moves from the games other characters to customize him in various ways. It is certainly entertaining and worth playing at least once but it’s not going to be a core game mode.

Other than that there are the ending movies which are all fairly short with some containing fantastic fighting sequences, some relating to the games plot (such as it is) and others being totally ridiculous and hilarious.

I believe this is the only place you can see a jealous pet panda riding the teacups at a fair and then hugging a miniskirt clad Japanese school girl who can beat up men literally four times her size. Weird? Yes, but also hilarious.

AUDIO

There are some solid sounds in Tekken. The cut scenes have good Japanese voice acting and nice sound effects. As soon as you are on the main menu you will have up-beat electro and trance pumping out of your sound system relentlessly. You can change the settings and decide which music will play on which stages and it is also one of few games that allow custom tracks on the PS3. The voices in battle combined with the stage destruction sounds and faces being smashed in are good, but there is nothing in Tekken to excite the Audiophile.

VISUALS

The stages are unique and there are few obvious shared elements at all. The rain leaves an extremely reflective sheen over everything, the water pools that some stages have you fighting in react well to the characters movements and even the non-reactive elements in the background are colourful and immersive. Occasionally there are some clipping issues with characters outfits, hair or other elements but it is not often enough or bad enough to spoil the experience. The cut scenes are truly gorgeous, at times looking like something out of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (the stadium on the opening cut scene just looks amazing!).

CONCLUSION

Tekken really does nothing to innovate and whilst it is fun and succeeds as a beat-em-up and a Tekken game this is certainly not the place for imagination. The menu seems awkward and uninspired and I seem to end up at the main menu where just going back a level would have done quite often. As a sequel it is an improvement offering more characters, customizations, stages and game modes than before and as such it shouldn’t disappoint Tekken veterans and newcomers to the franchise alike.

It’s a beat-em-up, and a good one. So if you fancy beating up a velociraptor and a bear with a man-tree-thing and a kangaroo or playing with two different martial artists and mastering kick-boxing and drunken mastery then this is the place for you. As long as you don’t expect the unexpected from Tekken it will entertain massively.

Tekken: Tag Tournament 2 is available on PS3 and XBOX 360 now.

As I write this, I am using the Music Station to stream my Christmas music.  Music Station is much-improved.  I’ll play around with the Video and Photo solutions as well and advise in a future article.

An issue with TurboNAS has been the availability of compatible cameras in Surveillance Station.  With this release, QNAP is transitioning updates to camera support to Surveillance Station Pro, which comes with support for one camera.  A license for each subsequent camera, at $55 per camera, is required to add more cameras.  I’m not surprised here as I expect that support for additional cameras is resource intensive and most heavy users of this feature are likely business, but this change will likely cause some heartburn for existing users of that solution.  To add Surveillance Pro, download the QPKG from inside your Admin webpages, and understand that this will replace the stock Surveillance Station.  If you decide that you don’t like the update, uninstall the QPKG and you can revert, but don’t expect more updates to the legacy surveillance solution.

Check out the details of the 3.8 updates here.

If you are running TurboNAS on a compatible unit, go ahead and upgrade!

Review of the Sony Xperia T Android Smartphone

In the new James Bond film Skyfall 007 uses the Sony Xperia T as his phone – and we have also been using one, and here is our review.

CDW - Review of the Sony Xperia T smartphone - 47

Nothing less than the best will do for a secret agent on a mission. And Xperia T has the best of everything in HD. Capture life’s most thrilling moments in crisp detail, then re-live them in full HD – on your “Bond Phone” or the big screen. Powered by the latest Android software, Xperia T has a Sony-quality camera, the latest in connectivity, and a slim arc design that’s worthy of James Bond himself.

Final Thoughts

So the Sony Xperia T is the Bond Phone, and 007 uses it in Skyfall. Interestingly he just uses it as a phone – it doesn’t shoot lasers, hack computers, or anything that your phone doesn’t do.

The Xperia T looks very nice with its all over black shell and all glass front. The screen itself is very clear and very sharp, and touching the screen was very responsive. Although I would say that fingerprints and smears show up rather a lot (just take a look at the picture above to see exactly what I mean).

One of features of the Xperia T is the arc design. What this means in practice is that the phone sits comfortably in your hand – and it does feel comfortable. Even after prolonged use it still felt comfortable. Part of this is also because the phone is rather slim and light.

Battery life was fairly good too – not the best we have ever seen, but depending on what you are using the phone for and what you have running you can just about get a full day’s use out of it, so consider turning things off you don’t need. The back isn’t removable and so there is no way to replace the battery or carry a spare.

The camera on the phone is very good quality too, and there is even a quick swipe option when the phone is locked so that you can go quickly into the camera mode and try not to miss whatever you want to take a picture of. The volume button on the side of the phone also doubles as a zoom on the camera, and it works rather well.

One disappointing thing is that the phone isn’t running Jelly Bean. Hopefully this is something Sony will address in the near future. Personally I am not a massive fan of Android but the phone works and the features are all there.

If you don’t feel that the built in 16GB storage is enough, and lets be honest, it probably isn’t going to be enough, you can use the microSD slot and add up to 32GB of additional storage.

The phone also supports NFC, however I didn’t have the opportunity to fully test this, but its a feature that will be coming with most new phones.

If you are into gaming, the Xperia T is PlayStation Certified so you can play titles from the PlayStation store, and with the excellent screen gaming is a lot of fun – just remember your battery though!

Overall the Xperia T is a good Android smartphone and if you don’t have a recent phone I can see a lot of people upgrading to it,just hurry up and bring Jelly Bean to it please Sony!

The Sony Xperia T is available for £30 a month with an upfront cost of £29 on the Ultimate Internet 500 plan and a guarantee of no surprise out-of-bundle data charges or £34 a month with an upfront cost of £29 on The One Plan.

The smartphone is also available on Pay As You Go for £399.99 plus a top-up. All in One 15 costs £15 and gives 30-day access to All-You-Can-Eat data along with 300 any-network minutes and 3,000 texts. Or All in One 25 costs £25 and offers 500 minutes, 3,000 texts and All-You-Can-Eat data for a 30-day period.
