CSI: Hidden Crimes out now for iOS and Google Play

Today, Ubisoft announced that CSI: Hidden Crimes is now available for free in the App Store and the Play Store. Developed by Ubisoft Abu Dhabi, CSI: Hidden Crimes is a case-solving hidden object game set in the world of CBS Television’s hit TV show CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

Previously format-exclusive missions for MGS V Ground Zeroes out now

Konami Digital Entertainment B.V has today released a new update to its METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES title for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, which unlocks previously format-exclusive elements to all users.

 

Now available, the free update gives PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 users access to the ‘Jamais-Vu mission’, which was previously only available within the Xbox One and Xbox 360 editions of the game. The Jamais-Vu mission re-introduces METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE star, Raiden, to the series, in a special mission set within METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES’ containment camp.

The new mission sees Raiden charged with investigating an alleged alien incursion, where – forgoing his famed High-Frequency Blade – he is dropped on the edge of the camp, and must gain access and secure firm evidence of the alien presence. The aliens – dubbed ‘Snatchers’ by the intelligence group – are externally disguised as camp guards, but produce an inhuman X-Ray when tagged using the iDroid app or Raiden’s binoculars. Raiden must locate and eliminate the alien imposters while evading capture by the unaware humans charged with guarding the base.

 

Conversely, Xbox One and Xbox 360 users will also be able to access the previously Sony-exclusive ‘MGS1 Déjà-Vu mission’ when they update. The MGS1 Déjà-Vu mission celebrates the heritage of the acclaimed METAL GEAR SOLID series by creating a bespoke mission that harks back to the series’ first 3D entry. The mission visually references key events from the original PS one™ classic and tasks the user with reproducing famous scenes from the original METAL GEAR SOLID. As players recreate these iconic moments, a flashback system reproduces the original reduced polygon graphical style of the original game and introduces familiar enemies and recognisable weather conditions for added authenticity.

 

These new stages further enhance the replay value of METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES. The missions tie in perfectly with the game’s 1975 setting and expand on the game’s basis as being a prologue to the forthcoming METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN. Additionally, Kojima Productions has also used this update to improve certain display items.

 

 

As first part of the METAL GEAR SOLID V experience, METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES focuses on the legendary Big Boss – a stealth operative – as he infiltrates a secret Cuban prison base called ‘Camp Omega’ on a rescue mission. Alone behind enemy lines, the game reveals a total freedom of movement within its missions, with users choosing how they engage guards, the route they pick, and which prisoners they rescue. The game’s unique open world and many possibilities encourage the player to revisit its content again and again to discover its secrets and features an online global ranking system where players can compare their achievements against others. It also has unique second-screen elements, via the free iDroid app, which allow users to sync maps, summon air support and use found cassettes on a linked iOS, Android or Smart Glass system.

Shadows: Stealth Inc 2 Announced for Wii U

When the company Stealth Inc was created to answer a single question; “Why do Stealth games have to be so slow?” The original game introduced players to the trap, laser and death filled test chambers of the nefarious PTi industries, charging them with completing puzzles and platforming challenges across 80 different levels.

Since its original release, Stealth Inc and its PC counterpart, Stealth Bastard Deluxe, have been downloaded over one million times and have won multiple awards – not bad for a game that was started as a lunchtime project and originally released as a freeware puzzle game on PC.

In Stealth Inc 2, players return to the dark corridors of PTi Industries in Stealth Inc 2, but this time they aren’t limited to test chambers – they have full run of the facility, breaking into chambers and exploring an open world, employing brand new equipment in a quest to save fellow clones from human experimentation. For the first time, the game will also include co-operative gameplay via the Wii U GamePad.

Stealth Inc creator and Game Director on the project, Jonathan Biddle, said: “We’ve relished revisiting the world of Stealth Inc. It’s given us the chance to really fine tune the Stealth Inc experience, while also hugely expanding it with the addition of a larger explorable game world, and a more involved narrative.”

Stealth Inc 2 is due out for Nintendo’s Wii U system in 2014, and is being published by indie games publisher, Curve Digital.

Motorola announces event in London on the 13th May

Today Motorola has announced an event for 13th May in London, where the company could very well unveil the follow up to last year’s Moto X. The company, now owned by Chinese powerhouse Lenovo, already teased we’d see a successor this summer, so the timing is lining up quite nicely. Little tidbits about the supposed Moto X+1 have already started to turn up.

Rumoured specs for the Moto X+1 is the potential Motorola device will sport a 5.2-inch 1080p display, 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, Android 4.4.3, and a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera (2-megapixel front facing camera).

Maybe it will be the rumoured  Moto G with LTE or the newest rumour of the Moto E with is a 4.3-inch display, 5-megapixel camera, 4GB of internal storage, 1GB of RAM 1.2GHz dual-core chip and running Android 4.4.

Disney Shows Off Disney Infinity Marvel Super Heroes

Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes has been announced by Disney Interactive Studios developed by Avalanche Software. The new game will introduce Marvel characters, locations and vehicles to the Disney Infinity universe.

The game features characters such as Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, Incredible Hulk, Hawkeye and Black Widow. At least a dozen additional characters and toys will be announced prior to launch.

Disney Infinity Marvel Super Heroes will be available for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, Wii U, PC and iOS. (yes there won’t be a Wii version of the new game) coming this fall 2014.

Review: 0rbitalis

Whilst most games boast high octane action and realistic AI, it’s often the overlooked indie style games which provide the ingenuity and uniqueness that can help drive the industry forward. 0rbitalis, developed by Alan Zucconi and published by Mastertronic is a physics based puzzler based upon the notion of having only one shot to succeed.

The premise is simple, with one click, and after attempting to gauge all the discerning factors, you’ll futilely launch a satellite onto a 2D plane, hoping to keep it in orbit for as long as possible. Gravitational pull is your enemy and your friend here, as the ‘maps’ often house many objects with which to gravitate towards. Helpful indicators give guidance on the directions and headings of stray meteors and will also outline your current flight path before and during your launch. Whilst you might assume this would whittle away the game’s challenge, it’s almost necessary after the first dozen or so levels when things start to get interesting.

As you may well have already suspected, objects don’t stay stationary for long; whilst you are be able to see the direction and path of your satellite, its path can dramatically change by the second. The first half an hour of space puzzling will teach you to minutely alter your trajectories, whereas the latter parts of the game will impose the importance of how to also combine timing to your methods. As is gratefully the case in games such as this, new scenarios often rear their complicated heads and force you to accommodate to their varying styles. Not only will you have to deal with the usual motionless stars, but their gravitational fields will pulse, asteroids will orbit in taxing ways and new ‘repelling’ stars will appear.

Despite the game, for the most part, not being incredibly challenging due to the excellent difficulty curve, there’s always the leaderboard to contend with too, as on seldom few occasions was I able to break into the top 50 regardless of how well I thought I’d done! With most levels taking fewer than 20 seconds to complete, if done right the first time that is, the inevitable ‘one more go’ syndrome soon starts to kick in. Never more so than when the alignment of the stars look feasible and teasing enough to offer an infinite loop to chase after!

Whilst it may try to encourage intelligent and progressive thought, at times, playing 0rbitalis can occasionally devolve into an exercise of trial and error until you find the optimum approach. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, but the levels are better when prior to your launch, you vaguely plan where the path will take you and then fine tune your concept. One thing that 0rbitalis seemingly would certainly take advantage of, would be a port to mobile devices, as it seems to be one of the few games where touch controls could actually be beneficial and not just a hindrance. I would also imagine that I would be prepared to sink some more hours in, had it been on my phone; not my computer. It’s also worth making a note of that due to it still being early access, there are some minor niggles such as it being in 4:3 when in full screen, but aside from that, it could almost be released now; still have less bugs than most games.

Of course it’s not just the concepts of indie games that often reap our attention, it’s also the unique looks that some posses; 0rbitalis is no different. The silent beauty of space draws itself and simply adding delicate trails, projections and subtle celestial stars twinkling in the background is an understated but most effective touch. Alongside, the audio track mirrors this approach, composed by Doseone, it emits static noise and ambient effects to create an enveloping, calming aura.

It may not be the longest game out there, but if you’re into leaderboards, subtle good looks and addictive, ‘easy to play, hard to master’ puzzle games, you’ll get your money’s worth out of 0rbitalis.

Silent Hill duo return to stalk the PlayStation Network

Konami Digital Entertainment today released its eerie Silent Hill: Origins and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories titles via the PlayStation Network service.

 

Previously available for Sony’s PSP, the two games are priced at just £7.99 each and offer a very different take on KONAMI’s legendary Silent Hill series.

Silent Hill: Origins acts as a prequel to the series and follows Travis Grady, a truck driver, as he enters the mist-shrouded town to dig up information on a girl he rescued from a fire. Silent Hill: Origins uses the series’ famed third-person perspective to trail Travis as he explores the seemingly abandoned town, collecting items to help him in his search. As he ventures further into the town, however, memories of his childhood haunt him – and then the monsters come out…

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is widely regarded as the most innovative addition to the series, and as it adapts its gameplay to the decisions the player makes. WildStar is an upcoming sci-fi MMORPG with a stylized cartoon-ish look currently in development by NCSoft’s Southen California-based Carbine Studios. Play will be set on the newly discovered planet of Nexus, once home to the technologically advanced race called the Eldan. Long ago, they mysteriously vanished.
