Ryse: Son of Rome’s Morituri Pack

2

The latest add-on for “Ryse: Son of Rome,” the “Morituri Pack,” launches today. Available for $7.99 USD in the Xbox Games Store, or as part of the “Ryse: Son of Rome” Season Pass, the “Morituri Pack” gives gladiators brand-new content, including a slew of exotic and deadly arenas to further their legacy upon the blood-splattered sands of the Colosseum.

Ryse - Son of Romes Morituri Pack

The Morituri Pack introduces three new arenas for Gladiator mode – Beacon, False Gods and Revolution – and two for Survival mode – Sulfur River and The Forbidden Forest.  Beacon tasks players with infiltrating a barbarian camp; False Gods has gladiators battling in Ancient Egyptian temples; and Revolution is set amid the crumbling ruins of the Roman Empire. In Sulfur River and The Forbidden Forest, players will navigate perilous traps as they battle against insurmountable odds.

If fighting in the arena alone is more your style, the “Morituri Pack” also includes five arenas that have been optimized for Solo Mode – Beacon, Revolution, False Gods, Market and Garden. Lastly, the “Morituri Pack” enables gladiators to don the savage battle armor of Oswald, King of the Britons.

Preview: Metro Redux

1

Metro Redux - Preview 1

Any fans of the Metro games can throw their hands into the air and praise the fact both titles are coming to the Xbox One and PS4 too, as well as PC. At a recent Koch Media event we got our hands on with the Redux range of the games, which I must say, looks visually amazing and that’s just the surface. For anyone that doesn’t know what these Metro games I speak of then you’re probably missing out on a great immersive survival series, but not to fear as now you can enjoy this second wave.

Why Redux?

Well why else wouldn’t you want to play a couple of classic and unique survival games on the new consoles? Both games are remastered which we saw during the presentation showing the original side-by-side with the Redux. New textures and skins for the world and inhabitants look absolutely stunning. And 2010’s Metro 2033, the first outing, compared to its Redux is a fine example to see the transformation between old and new.

Metro Redux - Preview 2

The Differences

So aside from Metro 2033 and Last Light looking visually improved they both have game modes crossed over, so the Survival mode from 2033 and Spartan mode from Last Light is available across both titles. This means that anyone that fancies a new challenge and have previously completed one or both games originally can now have another reason to play through the games again differently.

After playing a selection of levels from Metro 2033 Redux I must admit that the gameplay was dramatically improved from when I played through several years ago. Everything handles a lot better and with the added watch from Last Light I felt that I was more in control, everything felt refined and it didn’t feel like it was just a stereotypical HD remake. The AI themselves have gone through a complete overhaul with improvements in every way imaginable. Their look is more detailed, the enemies up close can be seen with noticeable scales and hair and the humans aren’t dull and generic looking as they once were. With the Metro Last Light Redux you’re getting last year’s game bumped up to next gen but most importantly you’re receiving the complete edition with all of the DLC in one handy package. With the additional game mode too Last Light and 2033’s Redux is the ultimate bundle which looks and plays fantastic on the new consoles.

Metro Redux - Preview 3

Overview

There really aren’t any excuses now to say you’ve missed the opportunity to get on board the Metro train, excuse the pun. Deep Silver have simply outdone themselves with tailoring both games for the current competitive market. We were told that this hasn’t sidetracked from any sequel in the works so it seems we’re in for a treat in the future and the Redux will keep us happy until then. Both games haven’t lost any features or levels but have added to both of these. When you arrive at goals in a mission the game would usually end that section. Now there’s a lot more exploration to be done and the size of the playing field has been expanded, can’t really argue that you’re not getting your money’s worth.

For the PC the game will cost €19.99/£15.99 and if you had picked up the game cheap or free through various deals or humble bundles you can get the Redux 50% off which is awesome. For the console release, Xbox One and PS4, the game will cost €39.99/£34.99. With 60fps on both, the PS4 version is 1080p and the Xbox One is currently 900p.

Metro Redux is out this Summer 2014 and shouldn’t be missed.

Review: The Wolf Among Us Episode 4: In Sheep’s Clothing

0

screenshotbigbynerissaoffice

One thing we all want from a detective genre filled with twists and turns are answers. There’s nothing better than relief from the ‘Who done it’? theme and episode 4 of The Wolf Among us tips the players ever so close to the truth. In fact, knowing that this is the penultimate episode from Tell Tale’s Fables themed thriller, with hints of action, I felt pretty satisfied with some of the minor questions being answered as opposed to the overall big one. And if the big one was answered before the end we wouldn’t be as interested for episode 5. So why did ‘In Sheep’s Clothing’ rub me up the right way?

The length of this episode felt by far the longest yet. And I’m a fan of length but only if it’s long and fun. Nobody wants to play with something that’s boring, which The Wolf Among Us has never been, and so long you just want it to end if it’s kept your attention thus far. Coming towards the end of the whole experience we now have to see everything begin to be summed up in a satisfactory bow and feel our actions over the previous episodes have repercussions. With this in mind having an episode that was approximately 20 minutes longer to complete compared to the others felt necessary and builds up to a beautiful climax that doesn’t disappoint. The climax was so good I chose to have a smoke afterwards. An in-game smoke that is.

screenshotbigbysnowkitchenbg

Players that have completed episode 3 may continue to read on, anyone that hasn’t should please go ahead and play it. The quest of repairing the enchanted mirror and tracking down Bloody Mary leads Bigby Wolf down some really dark rabbit holes as we have just discovered there’s someone else running the show. With an opening scene that physically made me cringe to the point of turning away, I don’t do blood and broken limbs, you’re thrown into an episode with a lot more moralistic choices regarding Fabletown’s unglamoured inhabitants, giving you options to send them away or be passive towards them which will go against the rules.

For the rest of the episode you’ll come across Snow and many other familiar characters who’ll try and aid you along the way, just some of the you might need to ‘persuade’ a little more. In some of these lengthier scenes you’ll find yourself caught between pushing characters a little harder than some others to get a led and some answers before apologising to them for your hands on method of questioning. Well I felt I had to apologise as I did some terrible things to them. Beauty and Beast play an even bigger role in this episode as we finally discover what exactly is going on between their domestic problems that thankfully ties into your main objective. Through my playstyle I found myself promising that I’d fix everyone’s issues, being the helpful guy that I am, but I somehow couldn’t bring myself to telling them all that murdering this mysterious Crooked Man is the solution even though it seems everyone will be better off with him dead.

Just like in the previous episodes you’re given the choice to visit a couple of places, one before the other, which I don’t think this time round gets affected to which you visit first. Both leads are so plot driven and lead to the same outcome, perhaps being the penultimate episode and loose ends needing to be resolved, the Butcher shop and the Pawn shop serve two very important purposes. Is this a bad thing not having a real choice affected to where you travel first? Still, the way you resolve situations at both locations can leave you with some harrowing guilt which more than makes up for any doubts about this.

screenshotbigbyfreezer

This has to be my favourite episode thus far. My passive orthodox method of approaching situations has well and truly been tarnished as I felt the pressure to getting answers. I’m glad I’ve been swayed into stepping up my tactics and all for a good cause, hopefully. And with this episode’s final scene with possibly the biggest cliff-hanger from all 4 episodes I don’t know honestly what to expect from the next instalment. I’m worried, scared and excited and can’t wait to see the outcome from my choices.

Call of Duty: Ghosts Invasion DLC Coming 3rd June

0

Prepare for Invasion, as Activision and Infinity Ward today revealed the third massive DLC Pack for Call of Duty: Ghosts. Launching 3rd June first, exclusively on Xbox Live for Xbox One and Xbox 360, Call of Duty: Ghosts Invasion delivers four new multiplayer maps from unique locales around the world, each with hidden secrets and unique Field Orders. Invasion also includes “Episode 3: Awakening,” the next thrilling chapter in Extinction’s four-part episodic narrative taking players deep into an alien underworld to discover the truth behind the Cryptid attack.

Invasion is available a la carte for a suggested retail price of $14.99, or as part of the Call of Duty: Ghosts DLC Season Pass, which gives fans access to all four epic Call of Duty: Ghosts DLC Packs planned for release in 2014 – Onslaught, Devastation, Invasion and Nemesis – at the discounted suggested retail price of $49.99.

Invasion‘s four new small-to-medium-sized multiplayer maps feature the fast-paced gameplay Call of Duty fans crave, each one donning a distinct look, feel and unique killstreak. “Departed” is a medium-sized map set in a rural Mexican town during the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration. The colorfully decorated streets, vendor carts and storefronts provide ample cover for run-and-gunners, and players that complete the map’s unique Field Order will unlock the Death Mariachi killstreak. Armed with dual-wielding pistols, the Death Mariachi settles scores, with each kill turning enemy players into another member of the band, and a temporary squad mate.

“Pharaoh” is the abandoned archeological site of an ancient Egyptian palace. Players will have to be on the lookout for collapsing monuments and urns full of flesh-eating scarabs, among other surprises in this multi-level map. Inside the palace, gamers will battle through multiple chambers ideal for close-quarters combat and short-range weapons, all under the watchful eye of Anubis, the half-jackal/half-human, protector of the dead, who will handsomely reward players who unlock this map’s Field Order.

Invasion‘s third map, “Mutiny,” transports players to a remote Caribbean island harboring an eerie pirate hideout complete with abandoned trading posts and prison cells. Speed and stealth are a must as players navigate the narrow and intertwining pathways. However, let ye be warned that gamers taking up positions on the pirate ship moored in the center of the map will become vulnerable to enemy fire from the numerous flanking routes created by the map’s horseshoe shaped dock. Players that unlock “Mutiny’s” Field Order will find themselves escorted by two ethereal ghost pirates, who will happily send enemy combatants down to Davey Jones’ locker on their behalf.

COD DLC

Favela

Invasion‘s fourth multiplayer map is a refreshed version of the fan-favorite map from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, “Favela.” Since its original release, the Brazilian shantytown has seen substantial change. Buildings once under construction are now complete, while others have crumbled into a state of disrepair. Players must avoid falling to their death as they traverse the map from one building to the next, with ramshackle scaffolding creating varied pathways between structures, and enemy snipers taking advantage of the long sightlines. Players who complete the Field Order in “Favela” will be able to call in heavy air support from a nearby Y-8 Gunship to bring the rain with a 105mm cannon, a 40mm auto-cannon and a 25mm cannon.
