Nyko announces Data Bank for PS4 and more

A new third party accessory from Nyko announced at CES 2015, called the Data Bank for the PlayStation 4 will allow owners of the console to use larger than normal (physically) hard drives, this opens the door to cheaper options for expanding internal storage capacity.

While replacing the 500 GB hard drive that the PS4 ships with is relatively easy, out of the box, the console only supports 2.5 inch hard drives.

However, Nyko has unveiled the PlayStation 4 Data Bank, an accessory that replaces the standard hard drive cover and enables the use of 3.5 inch drives, which are typically cheaper than 2.5 inch drives on a per-gigabyte basis.

The PS4 Data Bank is expected to be available in the first half of 2015, with Nyko currently going through a patenting process for it.

Nyko also unveiled the PS4 Type Pad at CES 2015, it’s a small keyboard that plugs into the DualShock 4 controller in a similar to the Xbox 360 Chatpad.

The Type Pad is also due out in the first half of 2015, and will be compatible with all software that supports a bluetooth-enabled keyboard.

Final Thoughts

The radio comes in three different colours – pink, black and the one we had for review, Orange.

The radio is quite small and is very light so carrying it around won’t be a problem, although you are most likely to use it in a kitchen or bedroom.

It is powered by either the included power adaptor or by batteries.

It has a telescopic aerial for FM radio, with internal aerials for both MW and LW. I found even inside the house I got very good clear reception.

The sound quality is very good, and there is a headphone socket on the side as well for those times when you don’t want to disturb anyone else.

The power and volume is controlled by a dial on the front and there is also a tuning dial, just like old fashioned radios! Tuning in was simple, and gave me a very nostalgic feeling! Yes kids, we used to have to tune things in using dials!

Overall this a great piece of retro kit and would look good in any room.
