V-Rally 4 drives off for the UK tomorrow

0

Bigben and Kylotonn Racing Games are proud to announce the release of V-Rally 4 with a trailer that presents the different disciplines of the game. Speed, sensations, and spectacle are to be expected!

Each discipline offers a unique and different driving experience. V-Rally 4 also allows racing fans to put their skills to the test and to learn new driving techniques in Rally, Extreme-Khana, V-Rally Cross, Buggy, and Hillclimb.

Faithful to previous V-Rally games, the Career mode takes you on a tour of the world with the objective of becoming the champion in each category. To do so, you’ll have to win races, unlock and purchase new vehicles, improve them, and make choices about the way your career is managed. It’s up to you, for example, to decide if you’ll specialise in one discipline or if you’ll compete in all the categories right from the start. You must also recruit teammates (agents, mechanics, engineers, etc.) who will have an impact on your results.

In total, 22 environments, each offering various tracks, are available (on asphalt, gravel, snow, sand…). And for the 6 Rally environments (Monument Valley, Sequoia Park, Safari, Japan, Siberia, Malaysia) you can create special stages: the road network is made up of hundreds of intersections and the stage generator offers thousands of possibilities by opening or closing intersections. It’s impossible to learn all the tracks by heart, so you’ll have to pay close attention to your co-driver’s notes.
Principal characteristics:
V-Rally Mode: V-Rally’s Career mode represents the heart of the experience.
Quick race: quickly access all the game’s content (vehicles and environments), for all categories. There’s nothing better for training, testing vehicles, and getting used to their particularities.
Multiplayer: online with up to 8 players, or offline split-screen.
22 environments and Stage Generator: numerous pre-generated tracks and the ability to drive created special stages in Rally mode.
Vehicle customisation: in Career mode, a livery editor allows you to completely customise your vehicle and give it the colours you want!
More than 50 cars: Collect legendary historic (Lancia Delta S4, Porsche Carrera SC Safari, Mustang Fastback…) and modern (Ford Focus RS RX, MINI John Cooper Works, Volkswagen Polo R WRC…) cars

V-Rally 4 is now available digitally on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (7th September for the physical version in the UK). It will be released for PC on September 25. The game will also be available on Nintendo Switch at a later date.

  • AI Shopping Assistant – When users see something they want to purchase while browsing the web, they simply long-press the image with two fingers, and the AI will identify the item and share a link to where users can buy it on Amazon. Alternatively, users can snap a photo of the item whilst out and about and the AI will bring up the prices online.
  • Enhanced Communication – Ensures a smooth call experience with AI noise cancellation. This integrated function nullifies noisy backgrounds, transforming all calls to high quality conversations. If users lose cellular reception, the Mate 20 lite will put the call on hold instead of dropping it and reconnect once connectivity resumes.
  • Curated Albums – Thanks to AI advancements, the days of manually managing photos are over. The Mate 20 lite comes with an AI Smart Gallery, which uses smart algorithms to automatically sort photos into albums.
  • AI Game Suite – AI optimises gaming performance thanks to dynamic resource allocation, providing smoother switching between 4G and WiFi for the best gaming experience while a smart alert system manages your distractions allowing you to answer calls and game at the same time without breaking your flow.
  • 360 Degree Face Unlock – Unlock your phone at any angle thanks to the Mate 20 lite’s simple, fast and intuitive face unlock feature.

Photography Features – Front Cameras:

  • AI-Powered System – Enhanced 24MP RGB + 2MP Depth front cameras recognise more than 200 different scenarios across eight categories – Blue Sky, Beach, Plant, Night, Stage, Flower, Room and Snow – optimising photos scene-by-scene for flawless shots every time.
  • HDR Pro Support – The front cameras support real-time HDR preview and video recording, producing outstanding clarity with rich, vibrant colours, even in dark environments or on back-lit subjects. The HDR Pro also uses RAW image data to greatly improve the quality of the final output, as well as the speed of the process.
  • 3D Portrait Lighting – The five professional lighting effects (including soft lighting, butterfly lighting and stage lighting), combined with Huawei’s 3D facial modelling, can precisely recognise the five facial zones of a subject and identify which areas need to be enhanced.
  • 3D Qmoji – This fun feature leverages the dual front camera to generate a personalised 3D Qmoji (in GIF or video formats), perfect for animating and expressing yourself to share with friends on social media.

Photography Features – Rear Cameras:

  • Intelligent Shooting Experience – The on-device, AI-powered system has studied more than 100 million images to be able to recognise over 500 scenarios in 22 categories including Portrait, Blue Sky, Snow, Ancient Building, Fireworks, Plant, Cat, Dog, Text, Food, Car and Night. The AI automatically identifies different scenes and adjusts the camera settings accordingly, providing users with the best possible results using the 20MP RGB + 2MP depth enhanced rear cameras.
  • Smart Composition – This feature helps beginner photographers properly frame their shots before pressing the shutter button. With practice, users will be able to pick up basic composition techniques with help from the Mate 20 lite.
  • AI-Enhanced Bokeh – The majority of dual-camera smartphones already on the market have difficulty differentiating the subject from the background, so the resulting background blur effects are improperly rendered. To address this pain point, the Mate 20 lite leverages a dedicated depth camera and specialised AI algorithms to accurately trace the outlines of subjects, creating natural portraits with authentic bokeh.
  • Super Slow Motion – In slow motion mode, users can capture a snippet of action at 480fps, and then play it back 16 times slower.

Ultimate Viewing Experience:

  • Featuring a 6.3-inch 19.5:9 FHD+ (2340×1080) HUAWEI FullView display, the Mate 20 lite boasts a notched design, providing a great field of view for the ultimate mobile entertainment experience.

Preview: The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan

0

The recently announced The Dark Pictures anthology has certainly made at least a few fans of the horror genre happy. It’s rare to get a new horror themed game and the fact that it’s being developed by Supermassive Games makes it even better – the same team that developed the excellent Until Dawn. This time round the team will focus on a group of characters for each of these entries in the horror anthology and the first one titled Man of Medan takes places inside a cursed ship.

Like with Until Dawn, Supermassive Games have managed to get at least one recognisable face in Man of Medan in the form of Shawn Ashmore. Expect the same level of detail found in Until Dawn, when it comes to the characters, if this demo is anything to go by. The focus of the playable build was on two if the main characters called Fliss and Brad. The duo have somehow found themselves being led at gunpoint around the dark corridors of the Medan ship by a French speaking character called Danny, who is looking for his missing friend called Olsen. The game offers no way to resist against Danny as he forces the pair to walk on further ahead, as if they are his personal radiation canaries on the lookout for anything spooky and deadly.

What is clear from the start is just how creepy it feels to play through Man of Medan. If anything, this feels like the true sequel to Until Dawn since it resorts to using similar tricks to ensure that players never feel safe at any point.

Given the dark setting of a rundown ship, it’s handy that most of the objects Fliss (playable character) can interact with are clearly highlighted. It makes it easier than fumbling about in the dark for anything that looks remotely useful.

As with Until Dawn, the sound and camera angles are efficiently used for maximum dread effect. A simple walk down a narrow corridor is made to feel like torture as the camera angle focuses in front of the characters with the odd loud noise most likely making players jump. Supermassive Games have seemingly become so crafty at creating these jump scares that it’s impossible to not get tricked, no matter the fact that they are expThe Dark Pictures:ected from the genre. For most of us, there is no bigger fear that not knowing what lies ahead or just around that dark corner and the narrow corridors and other creepy locations of a derelict ship make for the perfect location.

The button prompts make use of a timer around them showing players how long they have to react that makes it easier to see them since it makes them more visible on-screen. It also seemed like the game is quite forgiving when it comes to pressing the incorrect button or just not being quick enough. On one occasion towards the end, the character was given three opportunities to get away from permanently joining the undead creatures that roam the boat, after the incorrect button was pressed twice. This could be handy if the full game is just as forgiving, given that it makes it easier for more players to keep the characters alive for longer and perhaps get to experience everything that the story has to offer.

Walking around the section of the playable demo build was interesting and it even felt claustrophobic at times, so it will be interesting to see how the rest of the story can build upon this. After all, the demo takes places at least two or three chapters after the start of the story, so it’s difficult not to wonder how it can sustain this level of dread if it all takes place inside the ship.

Although the dialogue between the characters felt clunky and forced at times, it might make sense to have characters talk in such a manner to give it a teen slasher horror movie vibe. Even if it doesn’t feel natural for characters to play jump scares on each other for laughs under such dire circumstances. Oddly enough, a second playthrough of the demo seemed to demonstrate a slightly different relationship between Fliss and Brad. Some of the scripted events seen in the first playthrough were still there, but at other times their interactions seemed more relaxed. It could be that this is a sign of how the superb consequences system that Supermassive Games integrated in Until Dawn will work in Man of Medan. In Man of Medan players can make decisions based on a Moral Compass system that will affect how various events play out. In Until Dawn, some of these choices affected the relationships between characters and their interactions, but they also resulted in deadly outcomes for some of them. Although this small section of Man of Medan only had a few choices to make, one of them was a life or death situation, where the character was made to choose between her own safety and that of another character. The way that the whole sequence played out came off as confusing, but it’s definitely a good example of how quickly the stakes can be raised in this game.

As with Until Dawn, characters can also find information by carefully examining items and in this case it results in finding “secrets” clues. It’s not clear from this demo if finding these will result in the characters getting a better grasp of what is going on inside the ship.

It’s remarkable that Man of Medan managed to make such a positive impression in the short amount of time spent playing the demo. Although the choices presented in this section are fairly simple, it’s still interesting to see that players are offered the choice to mold how the story plays out. If it’s anything like Until Dawn, then these choices could change the way the story plays out further in. However, for now what matters is that Man of Medan is looking like another promising game from the development team who seem very keen at making as many players as possible terrified of what lurks in the dark.

Compared with the traditional big.LITTLE design, this solution designates the large high-performance cores to handle immediate, intensive workloads; the large, high-efficiency cores to provide sustained performance; and ultra-efficiency cores to tackle every day, light activities with extreme power efficiency. Running at higher clock speeds compared to the prior generation, Kirin 980 enables quicker app launch times, better multi-tasking and a generally smoother user experience.

As graphics in mobile games have become more and more sophisticated in recent years, Huawei has integrated the Mali-G76 GPU into the Kirin 980 to deliver unparalleled gaming experiences. Debuting with the Kirin 980, Mali-G76 offers 46 per cent greater graphics processing power at 178 per cent improved power efficiency over the previous generation. Mali-G76 also features an innovative clock boosting technology that utilises AI to intelligently identify gaming workloads and adjust resource allocation for optimal gaming performance.

Industry’s First “Dual-Brain” Power

The latest Kirin SoC represents a new era of On-Device AI. The Dual NPU Kirin 980 elevates the On-Device AI experience with greater processing power and intelligence. The synergy between the Dual NPU results in an image recognition capability that is greater than the sum of two—the Kirin 980 can recognise up to 4,500 images per minute, up 120 per cent compared to Kirin 970, further demonstrating Huawei’s industry leadership in the On-Device AI space. Additionally, Kirin 980 supports common AI frameworks such as Caffee, Tensorflow and Tensorflow Lite, and provides a suite of tools that simplify the difficulty of engineering On-Device AI, allowing developers to easily tap into the leading processing power of the Dual NPU.

Full-Featured ISP

In pursuit of the best smartphone photography experience, Huawei integrated its proprietary fourth-generation ISP into the SoC. In addition to a 46 per cent increase in data throughput compared to its predecessor, the new ISP also provides better support for multi-camera configurations, as well as an all-new HDR colour reproduction technology that can manipulate picture contrast to highlight objects on various parts of an image. In addition, Kirin 980 utilises the Multi-pass noise reduction solution that accurately removes artefacts without scrubbing away image details, resulting in better quality on images taken in low-light scenarios. Another new feature of the ISP is improved motion tracking. When a user attempts to snap a photo of a moving person, the ISP can still recognise the subject with 97.4 per cent accuracy, so any user can capture fleeting moments with ease.

The rise of video-centric social media platforms brought together with it a surge of demand for video capture features. Kirin 980 adopts a new pipeline dedicated to processing video captures, allowing the camera module to shoot videos with 33 per cent shorter delay.

World-Class Connectivity

To deliver the best connectivity to users of Kirin 980-powered devices, Huawei integrated the world’s first modem supporting LTE Cat.21 with a peak download speed of 1.4Gbps. Additionally, the Kirin 980 supports carrier aggregation, even across frequency bands, so users are free to choose their mobile operators and still enjoy the same premium connectivity experience, regardless of where they are.

Inspired by Nature

At IFA 2018, Huawei also announced the launch of two new gradient variants for the HUAWEI P20 Series: Morpho Aurora and Pearl White, expanding its range of gradient colours to four. When creating these two unique hues, Huawei once again turned to nature for inspiration. The Morpho Aurora was inspired by the Morpho butterfly, while the Pearl White exudes the same elegance as the iridescent mother-of-pearl.

The next-generation AI experience is around the corner, which is scheduled to arrive at an Event in London on the 16th October.

Huawei Celebrates 10 Million HUAWEI P20 Pro/ P20 Units Sold Globally

Huawei today announced that it has sold 10 million units of HUAWEI P20 Pro and HUAWEI P20 in the first five months, empowering photography enthusiasts globally to take stunning photos with their smartphones. This remarkable milestone is testament to global consumers’ confidence in the Huawei brand, and the innovative technology that Huawei has engineered for its photography-centric line of flagship devices. Huawei’s latest flagship devices sold very well in key markets such as China and Western Europe, where they are performing significantly better than their predecessors.

“We are humbled by the reception of our latest flagships among global consumers. By going above the 10-million mark, we have again set ourselves a high bar to clear, but we will treat it as a symbol of encouragement that will fuel us as we continue doing what we do best—putting cutting-edge innovations into the hands of consumers around the world,” said Kevin Ho, President of Handset Business, Huawei Consumer Business Group.

The HUAWEI P20 Pro and HUAWEI P20 were the first two devices to receive a triple-digit score by DxOMark, the industry standard for camera and lens image quality measurements and ratings. Even today, the HUAWEI P20 Pro remains at the top of DxOMark Mobile leaderboard with a score of 109, leading the second-place competitor device by six points. Featuring cameras co-engineered by Leica, Master AI, and the high-performance handheld night shot capability enabled by HUAWEI AI Image Stabilization and large camera sensors, the HUAWEI P20 Series makes professional-grade photography accessible to anyone, even novices who have little experience with camera operations. Furthermore, since the Twilight and Pink Gold HUAWEI P20 Series variants were launched, Huawei has ignited a trend in smartphone design and inspired many other manufacturers to launch their products in multi-hued versions.

Earlier this month, the European Image and Sound Association announced that it has named HUAWEI P20 Pro the “EISA Best Smartphone 2018-2019,” citing that the device is “the most advanced, innovative and technically superior smartphone ever.”  This serves as further evidence that the HUAWEI P20 Pro and the similarly-specced HUAWEI P20 are two of the best smartphones available in today’s market.

Also at IFA 2018, Huawei unveiled the Morpho Aurora and Pearl White variants of the HUAWEI P20 Series.  With these nature-inspired hues, Huawei expands its highly popular gradient colour offerings.
