Spider-Man swing back into the MCU as Sony and MARVEL Reach a Deal

In what was a very public battle, Sony Pictures and Disney/Marvel are not only back talking but both side are closing a deal that will see Marvel Studios produce at least one more Spider-Man with Tom Holland for Sony.

In a statement, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige said:

“I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it. Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”

The release date of July 16th 2021 has been reserved for the third film with Kevin Feige back as Producer but the arrangement allows for Holland’s Spider-Man to also appear in a future MCU film. No other details have been revealed but I do feel it is interesting that was has been announced at the very least is a two film deal between MARVEL Studios and Sony Pictures for Spider-Man.

This of course does mean that negotiations are still underway to see if the deal can include more films, especially MCU films which Tom Holland’s Spider-Man success is widely down to, but if this only means two more MCU films, it certainly opens the opportunity for a cameo possibly in the Venom 2 sequel which was rumoured to have wanted one for the first film.

But this is good news for MARVEL fans who have been very vocal in their anger at all this public silliness in terms of pitting one side against the other in terms of studio. Hopefully this will lead to a full and longer partnership so the fans get to enjoy the best version of Spider-Man so far on screen.
