The Art of Bluffing: Strategies for Mastering the Poker Face in Online Games

0

Welcome to the exhilarating world of online poker, where skill, strategy, and the art of bluffing collide. This article will delve into the secrets of mastering the poker face, a crucial element in bluffing your way to victory.

Whether you’re a novice player or a seasoned pro, understanding the strategies behind effective bluffing can elevate your game to new heights. So, get ready to hone your poker face and deceive your opponents in the thrilling virtual arena.

Reading Your Opponents: Observation and Deduction

One of the keys to successful bluffing lies in your ability to read your opponents and decipher their betting patterns and behaviors. Observation is paramount in online games, where physical tells may be absent. Pay attention to how your opponents bet, raise, or fold in different situations. Look for deviations from their usual patterns, as these can indicate weakness or strength in their hands.

Deduction is another crucial skill. Based on your information, make educated guesses about your opponents’ holdings. Are they playing aggressively with a strong hand, or are they hesitating and showing signs of uncertainty? Use this knowledge to your advantage and adjust your bluffing strategy accordingly. It’s like unraveling a mystery, gathering clues, and piecing together the puzzle of your opponent’s intentions.

Timing is Everything: The Art of Well-Timed Bluffs

Timing is a crucial factor when it comes to successful bluffing. The element of surprise can be a powerful weapon in your arsenal. Wait for the opportune moment to strike when the circumstances are in your favor.

Bluffing too often or too early can diminish its effectiveness while bluffing too infrequently can make your moves predictable. It’s like waiting for the perfect wave to catch while surfing, knowing that the timing can make or break your ride.

Consider the dynamics of the game and the players involved. Are they more likely to call or fold? Are they playing aggressively or cautiously?

Tailor your bluffs to the specific situation and the tendencies of your opponents. A well-timed bluff can shake the table and force your opponents to question their decisions. It’s like throwing a curveball in a baseball game, catching the batter off guard, and gaining the upper hand.

Maintain a Solid Table Image: Balancing Bluffs and Genuine Plays

Building and maintaining a solid table image is crucial to effective bluffing. Your opponents will form opinions about your style of play based on your previous actions. Striking the right balance between bluffing and genuine plays is key.

If you bluff too frequently, you may develop a reputation as an aggressive player, making your opponents more likely to call your bluffs. Conversely, your bluffs may be more believable if you only play strong hands. It’s like walking a tightrope, finding the delicate balance between deception and authenticity.

Mix up your play and keep your opponents guessing. Occasionally show down strong hands to reinforce the perception that you only play premium cards.

This will make your bluffs more effective when you choose to deploy them. Remember, the goal is to create doubt in the minds of your opponents, making them uncertain about the strength of your hand. It’s like performing a magic trick, where misdirection and sleight of hand keep the audience enthralled.

Practice Makes Perfect: Refining Your Bluffing Skills

Bluffing is an art that requires practice, observation, and constant refinement. Start by analyzing your own gameplay and identifying areas for improvement. Take note of your successes and failures, learning from each experience. Use online resources and forums to expand your knowledge and learn from the strategies of experienced players. It’s like sharpening a blade, honing your skills to perfection through repetition and dedication.

Consider incorporating bluffing exercises into your practice routine. Simulate different scenarios and challenge yourself to execute successful bluffs.

Online poker platforms often offer play-money tables or low-stakes games where you can experiment with your bluffing techniques without risking significant losses. Embrace each opportunity to learn, adapt, and grow as a player. It’s like a journey of self-discovery, where every game becomes a stepping stone toward mastery.

Conclusion:

The art of bluffing is a crucial aspect of successful poker gameplay, whether you’re playing in a brick-and-mortar casino or the virtual realm through the best NZ online casino platforms.

You can become a formidable bluffing strategist by mastering the poker face, reading your opponents, timing your bluffs, maintaining a solid table image, and dedicating yourself to practice and improvement. So, embrace the thrill of deception, trust your instincts, and let your poker face become your greatest weapon at the virtual poker table.

Bonus Rounds and Slot Machines

Just like online games, slot machines do offer bonus rounds. They are usually triggered when you are able to match a certain combination of symbols. Bonus rounds can vary quite a lot, depending on the game you are playing. You can take advantage of mini-games as well as jackpots and free spins. Of course, there are a lot of industry leaders who offer bonus rounds for pick-and-win games. This can increase your chances of winning even more. Strategies, such as offering rounds without you having to spend any money make it easier for players to figure out the game. If you want a great game to get started with, then make sure you check out Jackhammer 2.

Types of Bonus Round

There are a ton of bonus rounds that you can take advantage of when playing games and slots. They happen to include jackpots, free spins, pick-and-win games and so much more. When you break down each bonus, you will soon find that you can trigger them by winning a certain combination. Some slots may require you to match a total of 3 symbols, and others may require you to land a scatter on the reel. Either way, it doesn’t matter what type of bonus game you are playing because a lot of them have one thing in common. They give you the chance to win big. If you want to take advantage of this then make sure that you play with a reputable slot provider.  If you can do this then you will soon find it easier to get the result you are going for.

Why Are Bonus Rounds Attractive?

So why are bonus rounds so attractive? The main reason why bonus rounds are so sought-after is because they give people the chance to win big. They allow players to put down a small amount of money, with the chance to win big. If you want to make sure that you get the best result out of your gaming experience then make sure that you take the time to research your casino and choose one that is suitable for your playing style. Counter-Strike, Canada’s Most Popular Esports Game – Next Steps

0

The most popular esports game in Canada is Counter-Strike. The game is represented by 19 squads that have won a total of $1,480,362. In addition, around 1,111,053 Canadians play Counter-Strike Global Offensive (CS:GO) overall.

This makes the game a huge part of the gaming culture in the country. This culture sees around 23,000,000 people play video games, and around 19,000,000 play casino games on sites licensed in Ontario and across the country.

In terms of CS:GO alone, it’s not only esports stars and other players that boost the popularity of the game, but viewers too. An estimated 1.5 million Canadians watch CS:GO monthly. They enjoy the gameplay of top Canadian esports stars.

Top Canadian players for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CO:GO)

CS:GO was released in 2012 and has gained a following worldwide, including in the Canadian esports landscape. Current top players in the country include:

  •  Russel Van Dulken “twistzz” – World ranking 76 and total prize money for the game of $1,536,793.10.
  • Keith Markovic “NAF” – World ranking 116 and total prize money for the game of $1,222,882.06.

  • Michael Grzesiek “shroud” – World ranking of 914 and total prize money for the game of $218,480.69.

These top players will join others competing at tournaments, which are going to change with the introduction of Counter-Strike 2.

A move towards new tournament rules as we welcome Counter-Strike 2 (CS2)

The last CS:GO Major was the 2023 BLAST.tv Paris Major, which recorded peak viewing figures of 1.52 million during the finals of the competition. These figures made it the third most popular event in the history of the competition.

As we say goodbye to CS:GO, and look forward to CS2 esports tournaments, developer Valve has announced changes to future Counter-Strike events. More stringent rules regarding the hosting of events will be introduced in 2025. The new rules state that organizers are not permitted to have “unique business relationships or other conflicts of interest” with teams participating in their events.

This situation should mean the end of the semi-franchised partner team model that is currently prevalent in the esports landscape. This current landscape means that events outside of Valve-sponsored Majors are mostly operated by semi-franchised esports leagues, the ESL Pro League, operated by ESL Gaming, and BLAST Premier, operated by BLAST.

Review: Smurfs Kart

Smurfs Kart is a family-focused affair. Moreover, it is gloriously safe for younger gamers. As such, it is perfect if you wish to let your children game whilst you get on with other tasks. Alternatively, maybe they are obsessed with the Smurfs and want to lose themselves in the whimsy and colourful world.

This straightforward racing title was developed by Eden Games and published by Microids. What’s more, it explores some well-known locations whilst letting you control many of the much-loved characters. Accordingly, it is perfect for hardcore fans or those who wish to get into the racing genre.

Race on the sand in Smurfs Kart.
Hit those sand castles.

Smurfs Kart concentrates on racing and little else.

It didn’t surprise me that Smurfs Kart lacked a central plot. However, I was a little disappointed not to experience a Smurfing story. It would have been pleasant to have a smattering of context for each level. Instead, you simply race aimlessly around each track. Accordingly, once you complete every tournament, there is little reason to return.

The action takes place over 12 unique tracks. Each location winds around key areas within the Smurfs’ world. As such, you’ll explore the village, the forest, Gargamel’s house, and more. On top of this, you can choose from 12 unique characters. Each racer has a special skill that can make or break your tournament. Therefore, picking the right Smurf for the job is easier said than done.

Make sure you drift each corner.
Slide around that corner.

Keep on racing.

Though there are limited races and only a handful of tournaments, there is still some depth. Thankfully, you can challenge each Smurf on their home track. The Time Challenge mode pushes you to your limits as you try to beat the leading time.

Driving a personal best wouldn’t be easy if it wasn’t for the shortcuts and power-ups on offer. Furthermore, there are special Smurf berries to collect that boost your speed. Like Mario Kart or Blaze and the Monster Machines, you pick up special items from boxes. The contents of each container vary and you can be rewarded with attack or defensive items.

Alongside the familiar but fun crates, you’ll find speed traps to boost your top speed and shortcuts to get a head start. These were great as they break up the gameplay whilst making you explore every inch of each level. Moreover, they are designed in such a way that younger players can utilise them as well. This was an excellent choice as it made the action balanced and inclusive.

Smurfs Kart wasn’t as polished as I expected.

When I read about Smurfs Kart, I expected it to be a polished and refined title. Instead, I was disappointed by the rudimentary finish and the lack of polish. However, my kids didn’t seem to mind as they enjoyed the vivid colour palette and the varied character models. What’s more, the racing was smooth, and the animation worked incredibly well. Accordingly, though it lacks a modern touch, it worked well nonetheless.

The audio was on par with the visuals. Unfortunately, it didn’t blow me away, but it was suitable. Additionally, the weapon sound effects were interesting, loud, and suitable for the genre. I expected more clichéd Smurf one-liners, but this didn’t materialise. Consequently, I felt the developers missed an opportunity.

Compete against 3 friends.
Time for some 4-player action.

Child-friendly controls.

If you are a parent, you know the joys and problems with kid-focused games. If the action is too complicated, your children lose focus and give up. However, if it is too simple; they tire easily of what they are playing. Thankfully, though, Smurfs Kart balances this problem perfectly. If you so wish, you can alter the assist level to help you out. Accordingly, you can let the computer control both the steering and acceleration. Alternatively, you can select one of those options or turn them off altogether. As such, it creates a balanced approach.

My kids adored this title. In fact, they didn’t want to put it down. I, on the other hand, tired of it quite quickly. Unfortunately, the action lacked any real depth, and I found it to be too easy. Yet, Smurfs Kart isn’t aimed at an adult audience. Therefore, as my kids wanted to play it repeatedly, I’d say it has both replay value and longevity.

Smurfs Kart gets the balance just right.

Smurfs Kart isn’t the most original title. However, its gameplay gets the balance just right. Not only does it have excellent accessibility settings, but it doesn’t outstay its welcome either. Consequently, your kids will lap up its fast and colourful action. Therefore, if you have kids who love the genre, I recommend that you buy it here! Can you win every race and become a Smurfing champion? Pick a Smurf, utilise every power-up, and win every race.

Review: Broforce

Broforce is a game that you’ll either love or hate! If you adore 80s action films, then you’ll cherish every moment. However, if you find the ridiculous one-liners and OTT action not to your liking, then you’ll despise everything on offer. I enjoyed every explosion, death, and ridiculous mission. Additionally, the roster of characters and the silly plot were borderline insane. Consequently, I couldn’t put down this latest Game Pass title.

This Run ‘n-Gun title was developed by Free Lives and published by Devolver Digital. What’s more, it focuses on a side-scrolling approach and utilises a grainy pixelated finish. As such, everything about it oozes old-school charm, and that was alright by me. This retro experience is easy to pick up and even easier to master. Therefore, it is the perfect game if you want some mindless violence or something to play casually.

Broforce tells a ridiculous tale.

The world is under threat and only the strongest and most ridiculous can stand up to those terrorists. Step forward the muscle-bound idiots from Broforce. This under-funded but over-powered paramilitary force will stop at nothing to rid the globe of this threat. Moreover, with plenty of “Bros” being held captive, your roster of fighters will expand as you complete each mission.

This complete version updates the original 2015 experience. As such, there is a new and improved campaign, 6 new “Bros” to unlock, and 4 new democracy-spreading challenge levels. Subsequently, if you have played this in the past, now will be a good time to jump back in to enjoy the madness.

Broforce loves its American roots.
America, America, America!

So much going on!

The gameplay is split between 2 distinct elements. Whenever you are not tackling the terrorists, you traverse a top-down world map. Here, you get an overview of the current threat level and every available mission. Though you don’t spend a lot of time here, it was great fun to fly your helicopter across the map.

Once you have chosen your mission, the perspective changes to a side-scrolling affair. This rudimentary approach was fantastic and much more complicated than expected. The stage design for each area was phenomenal. Furthermore, you can shoot your way through most of the destructible environment. Consequently, there are plenty of ways to tackle every stage.

Bloody goons.

Every mission is loaded with danger and an army of goons to take down. The relentless action can be tough to follow. But once you get used to the jumping, dodging, and shooting, you’ll adore the fast-paced nature of this beast. Broforce focuses on deadly force with a hefty helping of cliched cheese. As such, there is plenty of flexing to be had and a massive roster of “famous” characters to unlock.

The list of “Bros” is large. However, let me give you a short insight into the mind of the developer. You can unlock Brominator, Rambro, Brobocop, Bro in Black, and so forth. As you can tell, the developers have an amusing mindset and the game excels because of it. This hearty helping of ridiculousness was amusing and lighthearted. Moreover, each hero has their own set of skills and weapons to annihilate every goon on offer.

Broforce is full of famous Bros.
Another famous Bro.

Solo or co-op action.

Broforce can be played locally or online. Accordingly, it doesn’t matter whether you tackle this alone, or with up to 3 others, you’ll have a fantastic time. I adored the online action, as it was hilarious. Completing each mission with an array of ridiculous “famous” heroes was something to behold. Furthermore, it wasn’t complicated to play, and it didn’t matter if one of your teammates was useless.

Alongside the online action and the huge roster of characters, you’ll enjoy an array of different mission types. Each challenging stage offers unique objectives. Consequently, it prevents the gameplay from becoming tedious and repetitive. Moreover, the latest Muscle Temple stages add a new layer to the gameplay that will interest fans of the 2015 release.

Broforce looks great.

Pixelated games are two a penny these days. Therefore, I know many people are tired of what they see. Furthermore, the low-level graphics can’t be considered “next-gen”. However, in this case, I couldn’t give a damn! Broforce uses its pixelated style to great effect. This gruesome and smooth title is wonderful to look at. Moreover, the stage design is great, and I never got bored with what I saw. On top of this, the character models are amusing and I loved the portraits of each hero.

The audio is as cheesy and overwhelming as you’d expect. The aggressive soundtrack is married with incredible explosions and ear-splitting sound effects. Subsequently, this cacophony of sound is borderline uncomfortable, but absolutely amazing.

Another almighty explosion.
Kaboom!

Being a Bro was a piece of cake.

This straightforward affair was brilliant to play. As such, being a Bro was a piece of cake. The side-scrolling design and basic platform mechanics were simple to understand. Additionally, the excellent control layout and responsive inputs ensure that you keep up with the fast-paced action.

Though the gameplay was OTT, it was moreish and tough to put down. Moreover, the list of missions was interesting and there is an Ironbro campaign to tackle, if you so wish. What’s more, the ability to play this online and locally makes it much more accessible. Consequently, this oozes both replay value and longevity.

Broforce is cheesy, and OTT, but amazing.

It doesn’t matter how old you are, but if you love action films, you’ll adore Broforce. This cheesy and absurd Run ‘n-Gun title is aggressive, amusing, and a little obscene. However, its tongue-in-cheek approach is also charming and captivating. What’s more, it is included with Game Pass, so there is nothing to lose. As such, I loved it and I recommend that you buy it here! Can you rescue your Bros and save the world? Choose a mission, kill as many goons as you can, and rescue every captured Bro.

Review: Lifeless Moon

At 10:56 PM on July 20th 1969, Neil Armstrong put the first human foot on the moon. With over half a billion people watching, he climbs down the ladder and utters the famous and oft-misquoted phrase, “That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind”. The jury is still out, though, whether he then looked up and said, ‘Wait, is that a diner?’ Well, that’s what I said when playing Lifeless Moon anyway.

The moon is rather fertile ground for video games, which is slightly ironic I suppose. No matter how many feet have climbed down lunar ladders, it’s always been a mysterious and, for lack of a better word, otherworldly place. Equal parts fascinating and horrifying. Lifeless Moon leans into that pretty well. While it has a lot of issues with its gameplay, the one thing Lifeless Moon gets right is the atmosphere. I promise I’m not doing this on purpose.

Lifeless Moon - The astronaut walks towards portal that is inside a Japanese-style gate.

The Eagle Has Landed

Lifeless Moon opens with a pair of astronauts landing on the moon. In normal circumstances, a monumentous occasion. Time to leave some footprints; play some golf. This ritual is ruined by a portal opening, which they venture through, whisking them off somewhere else. That’s where the aforementioned diner comes into play. This gives way to places like a cabin in the woods or a giant, fragmented city. Through it all, we feel like a little tiny figure strutting through it all, putting the pieces together of what happened to pull all this stuff together. Lifeless Moon pulls the rug out from under you early on, allowing it to sink into the wonderful realms of bizarre.

What this creates is a wonderful atmosphere. After all, as Buzz Aldrin put it, the moon is ‘magnificient desolation’. It is full of broken, dusty landscapes which Lifeless Moon contrasts against the bright buildings and, later, the colourful landscapes. It remains eerie throughout, always brushing up against horror – save for one scene that pushes straight past it. I’ll say it features a man in a flight jacket and leave it there. The story that unfolds around this atmosphere is interesting too, as it slowly pieces together why this world is like it is. You’ll likely get most of your enjoyment from just tramping around, bathing in the weird things happening around you. I imagine it’s not for everyone, but I found myself quite engaged.

Lifeless Moon - The Astronaut is in a scarred, burning world with a floating tree.

That’s No Moon

I like Lifeless Moon a lot when it’s trying to tell me an interesting story and show me an interesting world to tramp about in. I like it a lot less when it remembers it’s a game. Now, it’s worth remembering that we’re in an EMU suit. They aren’t known for being easy to skip around the glades in. Platforming was an awkward choice then but the broken landscapes give us a lot of opportunities for hopping around. It’s not bad, just a little uninspired. Once we jump, we’re locked into that course, making for a few annoying jumps. The lack of a shadow also makes it hard to judge distance. Those could be surmountable problems if there was any real challenge to overcome, but it’s usually just easy, obvious paths. The jetpack is a nice touch, but suffers from the same issue.

It’s a similar story with the puzzles. There’s some promise in the premise. To get to different worlds, we need to activate portals. To do that, we’ll be locating green stones, tuning beams of light and aiming lasers. There are even little investigation sections where we grab clues and arrange parts on a table. The issue is that it’s just busywork. The puzzles take no thinking to solve, you just push a few buttons and it’s done. The cursor during investigation sections only reacts to important bits and ignores everything else. Lifeless Moon is absolutely crying out for some sort of central gameplay mechanic to orbit around, beyond slowly strolling forward.

Lifeless Moon - Two astronauts stare at a floating ring.

Houston, We’ve Had A Problem

And then it’s over. Lifeless Moon starts trying to ramp things up with the gameplay but after three and a half hours, it’s all over. It smacks a little of missed potential. The worlds here are ripe for exploration (admittedly, difficult with the slow EMU suit). There’s some – you can find some old bones or rocks – but it all feels a bit linear. When the plot started making moves towards the power of imagination, I was looking forward to seeing the world put through its paces. It wasn’t, outside a brief, promising section in the city. It’s weird and interesting, don’t get me wrong, but it doesn’t quite tie it together with the medium.

I think I like it because it reminds me of something like The Twilight Zone. It has that right level of strangeness, that grounds itself around protagonists who are as confused as we are. The difference is that The Twilight Zone is a TV show, but Lifeless Moon attempts to bring that to a video game. In terms of world and atmosphere, it’s a roaring success. It’s just unfortunate that the game part is so insubstantial.

Technical aspects.

The Tranya X3 Wireless earbuds pack in a lot of tech for the money. The incredible 16 mm high-intensity Magnetic Drivers deliver a healthy range of tones and bass. Consequently, you enjoy an impressive soundscape, no matter the activity you undertake. Alongside this, the safe transparency effect enables any outside noises to be heard.

This simple idea is a game-changer for runners, cyclists, or hikers. If you are used to commuting or training on busy roads, you’ll know how dangerous it can be. Yet, this excellent feature removes that level of fear without compromising your favourite tracks.

Wireless headphones must be stable whilst delivering a quick Bluetooth connection. Thankfully, the Tranya X3 Wireless Earbuds do just this. As such, you get a massive 32 hours of music before you run out of juice.

So, we know we’re good for power, but what about making phone calls? Thankfully, the Tranya X3 Wireless earbuds excel here as well. The QVC 8.0 Noise Cancellation feature is mighty impressive! Thanks to the 4 unique microphones, every phone call is crisp and comfortable. Unlike its peers, you won’t have to endure tinny phone calls and horrible ambient noises. Instead, the anti-noise feedback mic and voice-pickup mic guarantee a face-to-face talking experience.

Finally, I have to highlight the excellent touch controls. Both earbuds can be used to pause and play music, skip or rewind tracks, or accept or reject phone calls. Furthermore, if you install the Tranya app on your mobile device, you can adjust the commands to your liking. As such, these earbuds are extremely user-friendly and intuitive to use.

Build quality.

If a device is being used for sports, it must be hard-wearing and easy to look after. Furthermore, I expect it to be water and dust-resistant. Thanks to the IPX5 certification, you needn’t worry about rain showers or sweat from your arduous workout. Alongside this, the earbuds don’t sit in your ears, and this makes for a more natural listening experience.

On top of this, the ear hooks are curved in a way to follow the natural curve of your ears. As such, they snuggly sit around your ears and this creates a stable and secure fitting. Consequently, you needn’t worry if you are cycling or running, as the Tranya X3 Wireless earbuds stay glued to your head.

Are the Tranya X3 Wireless earbuds worth it?

Getting the right earbuds isn’t an easy task. Unfortunately, this market is saturated and it can be confusing to find the right product. Luckily, the Tranya X3 Wireless earbuds tick plenty of boxes. Not only do they look great, but they have an exceptional battery life, and they are perfect for making hands-free calls. Additionally, the 16mm drivers offer balanced tones and a rich bass line. Furthermore, the transparency mode enhances your safety whenever you exercise or walk on busy roads. Accordingly, these earbuds are fantastic and I recommend that you buy them here!

Does Anyone Remember Flash Games?

0

The internet used to be much simpler, filled with pop-up windows and basic-looking websites. When you look back at the web of past decades, it’s amazing to see how far things have come. HTML5 was an absolute game changer, and it allowed for seamless integration of all the elements on web pages.

Before that revolutionary markup language came along, browser-based games ran on Adobe Flash technology. They were renowned for their simple gameplay mechanics and quirky graphics.

When Were Flash Games Popular?

The games that ran on Adobe Flash were known simply as Flash games, and they still hold a special place in the hearts of people who used to play them. They were at their peak in the early 2000s, just as the online world was starting to boom in the West.

Various websites were dedicated to hosting Flash games, and players could simply visit a page and choose a game that they fancied. Some of the best-known websites that offered this form of gaming included Newgrounds, Miniclip, and Kongregate. Nowadays, many of these websites are defunct. However, playing Flash games after 2023is still a possibility. Players can simply use a plugin like Ruffle, which is a program powered by a line of HTML code, or even play on their browsers.

How to Play Flash Games

Part of the mass appeal of Flash games was that they were incredibly simple, and anyone could get the hang of them easily. They were aimed at broad audiences, rather than expert players. This meant that the controls were basic and could be mastered in a matter of minutes.

To play Flash games back in the day, all you needed was a web browser with Adobe Flash Player installed. You’d then visit one of the many websites that offered Flash games, scroll through the extensive options, and pick the one that you liked the look of. After clicking on the game, it would then load up in the browser window and the gaming session would begin.

Some of the biggest titles that enjoyed widespread popularity in the early 2000s included Crush the Castle, which inspired the massive mobile hit Angry Birds. There was also Club Penguin, which allowed users to chat with other players in the game. This acted as a precursor to the MMO genre.

Can I still Play Flash Games in 2023?

Many Flash games became obsolete as gaming advanced, and the short period of their existence will one day just be a snapshot in the evolution of the industry. However, for nostalgia-seeking players, there are still some ways to enjoy a few of the best-known and most memorable Flash games from the era.

There are various pieces of software out there that allow you to either play Flash games through your browser or download full catalogues of them to your computer. Some of the greatest titles that are available in 2023 include Indestructo Tank, Electricman 2HS, and Double Wires. Of course, if you’re interested in this form of simple gaming, you can also turn to the mobile market. Many games for the portable platform were inspired by Flash games, and they involve similar simplistic mechanics.

The great thing about the gaming industry is that it’s so varied, and there are different titles to suit a range of players. Flash games may not be comparable to today’s detailed console offerings in some players’ eyes, but there are gamers out there who adore them. It’s great that there are still ways to keep these classic titles alive, and that people who want to play them can still find them in 2023.

The Shokz OpenFit earbuds are an exceptional example of a market leader innovating their tech. Renowned for their bone conducting technology, Shokz is much-loved by cyclists and runners alike. However, how will their latest endeavour fare? By moving away from its bone-conducting roots, the company could anger their fan base. Yet, having tried these true-wireless earbuds for a few weeks, I was thoroughly impressed.

The air-conducting technology delivers exceptional sound quality. Furthermore, you are situationally aware without jeopardising your audio experience. Therefore, it is obvious why these earbuds will be popular with sports people. However, I want to take a moment to discuss the benefits of open-ear technology.

Why use these over traditional headphones?

Over-ear cans or in-ear headphones have been popular for years. However, these immersive audio devices were not great for your health or your safety. Consequently, when Shokz (previously AfterShokz) designed their bone-conducting headphones, people took notice. No longer did you need to worry about damage to your hearing. Furthermore, the ability to hear the ambient sound without compromising your music was fascinating.

Alongside this, the headphones were designed with sports people in mind. As such, they are comfortable, sweat-resistant, and built to last. On top of this, whenever you are training along busy roads, you are aware of every noisy danger. Accordingly, when you use any form of bone-conducting headphones, you feel reassured to push yourself harder. Yet, there was always an argument that this tech undermines audio quality. Users reported underwhelming bass and hit-and-miss tonal range. However, I’ve never experienced any problems and I’ve loved every set I’ve tested. Consequently, with differing opinions, people may not wish to try out this latest piece of tech. Yet, I believe the Shokz OpenFit earbuds will surprise you because of their air-conducting technology.

What’s in the box of the Shokz OpenFit earbuds?

  • The compact packaging oozes style and sophistication. Furthermore, it has some key selling points and begs to be opened.
  • The Shokz OpenFit earbuds have a Dolphin arc hook and are extremely lightweight. Moreover, they are available in a cream or black finish. The earbuds have a refined style with no obvious buttons.
  • A colour-matched charging case is provided. This magnetic device houses the earbuds whilst charging them at the same time.
  • A USB-C cable is provided to charge the case.
  • Learn the fundamentals with the easy-to-follow user guide.

Technical aspects.

The over-the-ear design ensures ultimate comfort and exceptional situational awareness. Furthermore, thanks to the Direct Pitch and Shokz’ OpenBass technology, you get a hearty range of tones and a decent bass line. As such, every song sounds great even when you are pounding the streets or racing cars on your push bike.

Unlike bone-conducting headphones, the Shokz OpenFit earbuds work well even in noisy situations. Yes, some of the sound is washed out by extreme ambient noises, but this is to be expected. Whenever I rode at high speeds, or I was passed by tractors or lorries, my music could still be heard. Additionally, I didn’t experience any distortion no matter the genre. Now, my music taste is eclectic, therefore, I listen to some soft quiet songs and some aggressive thrash metal. However, no matter the genre, these true-wireless earbuds survived the test.

Phone calls.

Hands-free calling is annoying, but it is also part of everyday life. Consequently, I expect any modern headphones or earbuds to deliver in this department. Fortunately, the Shokz OpenFit earbuds do a pretty good job. During testing, I was able to use the earbuds in some noisy environments. Thankfully, I had no reports of echoes or uncomfortable ambient sounds.

Unfortunately, though, unlike its peers, there is no Bluetooth multi-point connection. This simple feature should be standard in any high-end tech. However, disappointingly, it hasn’t been included. As such, it isn’t as functional as some of its own Shokz counterparts.1

Build quality.

The Shokz OpenFit earbuds are a phenomenally comfortable device. Thanks to the flexible ear hooks and the incredible lightweight design, you don’t feel like you are wearing them at all. Additionally, I appreciated the lack of a rear headband that is associated with bone-conducting headphones. The refined design was great to look at and pleasant to the eye.

Whilst exercising, the earbuds were stable and didn’t shift an inch. Consequently, I felt reassured that I wouldn’t accidentally lose one whilst cycling at high speeds. Moreover, the over-ear design ensures that this is a one-size-fits-all scenario. Therefore, you needn’t worry about sizing issues and other associated problems. Another feature I liked was the compact charging case. Not only does it look great, but it extends the battery life to 28 hours.

Usability.

Thanks to the IP54 rating, the earbuds are sweat and water-resistant. This is fantastic if you like to exercise in all sorts of weather. Furthermore, the touch controls worked no matter how damp the earbuds were. With basic functionality, you can stop, start, fast forward, rewind, and answer calls. However, there is no volume control, so this may irk some users. This wasn’t an issue that bothered me, as I rarely touch the volume once I get going.

Alongside the excellent touch controls, these earbuds are extremely user-friendly. With or without the instructions, you can get started with ease. As such, even the greatest of technophobes will love these earbuds.

Are the Shokz OpenFit earbuds worth it?

Whether you love to walk, run, or cycle, the Shokz OpenFit earbuds are the perfect choice. Not only are they user-friendly, but they deliver excellent battery life and superb audio. Moreover, the hands-free technology is second to none. Alongside this, I adored the ability to hear my surroundings without compromising my audio experience. As such, I loved using these earbuds and I recommend that you buy them here!

The Shokz OpenFit earbuds are awarded the Movies Games and Tech Gold Award.
  1. The Multipoint functionality will be rectified Friday September 1st 2023. A firmware update will be available via the Shokz app. Information and usability is correct at time of publication. ↩︎

Review: V-Hunter Puzzler DX

There’s something about vampires that calls creators in all mediums to the cooking pot of ideas. Whether it be hunting them, befriending them, or doing whatever Twilight was, vampires are a staple of entertainment and have been for aeons.

One of the latest entries in the vampire histories is this interesting little puzzle game, V-Hunter Puzzler DX. Once again, I wish video game developers would find a sense of brevity, but it seems today is not that day.

V-Hunter (which really doesn’t feel good writing down) is an isometric rhythm (of a sort) game that relies on you planning out your moves before making them. Each enemy has a timer above their head indicating how many moves before they take an action, it is up to you to plan your way around the board, killing each enemy whilst also leaving yourself a path to the door to the next stage.

There is a decent variety of enemies, mixing together to create a decent challenge that if you’re not paying attention will catch you out. The key is that you only have a single heart in your health bar, this can be added to on occasion but most of the time you are perilously close to death. Levels are simple in design, occurring on a 10×10 board most of the time, so your movement around the board when most of this is occupied by 10 moving enemies is crucial.

The element of challenge here is good and only increases as the levels progress. In addition, because each level is so small it is unlikely you’ll spend very long on each. The game’s Steam page promises over 60 levels across 5 different environments meaning that things don’t get stale and just as you’re sick of fighting rats, the game introduces skeletons and so on.

Graphics-wise, V-Hunter (still awful) has adopted a pixelated style, emulating an arcade-style feel. This is especially pertinent given the fast nature of the levels, and the immediate retries you will probably need before the end. The game’s overall look is fine if a bit boring, but your mileage may vary.

The music and sound design are also fine, very ominous, and full of church organs and synthesizers. Very vampiric I suppose but after the first few minutes the repetition gets old fast.

I’d love to write more about V-Hunter Puzzler DX but the game itself is very short and outside of an additional ‘hard’ mode that gives you a timer to make each of your moves, the game itself is somewhat simple. Not to say that its bad or anything, to my mind, the things V-Hunter is looking to achieve, it does perfectly, I only wish that there were more things in the game.

The Gap is a game I previewed recently. This excellent psychological thriller is captivating, weird, surreal, and eerie. Furthermore, it tests your logical prowess. Nonetheless, you may be wondering, why am I covering old ground? Well, a new trailer was recently released alongside some exciting news. As such, keep reading to find out what is new.

Release dates can normally be taken with a pinch of salt. However, I have been assured that The Gap will be available from October 19th 2023. Alongside this, if you are either a PC, PlayStation, or Xbox Gamer, you can now pre-order a copy. As such, Crunching Koalas doesn’t do things by halves. This excellent publisher is going full throttle to get this game out to the masses. Consequently, I can’t wait to see how it performs on console.

A short overview of The Gap

The Gap is a psychological thriller that seamlessly weaves together the realms of memories, emotions, and corporate intrigue. The game revolves around Joshua Hayes, a dedicated neuroscientist, whose life takes a sudden turn when his family becomes afflicted by a rare genetic disorder. I played this fantastic psychological thriller at Develop Brighton and loved it. The atmospheric gameplay and interesting story are captivating and cruel. Furthermore, this short experience is tough to put down. Consequently, this is one title that you won’t want to miss.

What’s more, the 8-hour battery life is useful for shorter gaming sessions. Moreover, it takes no more than 3 hours to charge the device. Top iconic casino movie scenes

0

Casinos have been a recurring theme in the movie industry for several years. Writers and directors use casino scenes to add excitement to a movie, build a character and enhance storytelling. The bright lights, glitz, glamorous outfits and exciting but tense atmospheres captivate audiences and arouse their emotions. From modern blockbusters to classic 80s films, we will be exploring the iconic casino movie scenes that have impacted popular culture.

The Hangover (2009)

The Hangover is one of the best comedy movies shot in Las Vegas. The movie stars Zach Galifianakis (Alan), Bradley Cooper (Phil), Justin Bartha (Doug) and Ed Helms (Stu). The Hangover is about a raucous group of four friends who travel to Las Vegas for a bachelor party. They wake up the following morning in a chaotic suite with no memory of what happened during the party. The groom, Doug, is also missing.

While trying to retrace their steps, they discover that they had stolen casino poker chips that belonged to a gangster and Doug was taken hostage. Stu, Alan and Phil hit the casino in the Caesars Palace Hotel to raise enough money to pay the ransom for Doug. Upon arriving at the blackjack table, Alan demonstrates his card-counting abilities and successfully beats the dealer several times. The Hangover is a brilliant combination of intense yet funny casino scenes.

Casino Royale (2006)

We can’t talk about iconic casino movie scenes without mentioning Casino Royale (2006), in which Daniel Craig makes his debut as James Bond. The Casino Royale poker scene, which is the movie’s centerpiece, features an intense Texas hold ’em poker game with high stakes at the luxurious Casino Royale in Montenegro. James Bond faces off against Le Chiffre, who is the main antagonist working as a paymaster for the Syndicat des Ouvriers d’Alsace. During the scene, Bond and Le Chiffre battle it out at the table, with massive deposits being made and fine casino etiquette being displayed. Resorts Casino offers players the chance to channel this casino etiquette in their variety of online casino games, including blackjack and poker.

Rain Man (1988)

Rain Man is one of the best comedy road movies. The movie is about Charlie Babbit (Tom Cruise), a young and selfish collectibles dealer. Charlie took a loan to buy grey-market Lamborghinis and deliver them to impatient buyers, but the EPA held the cars. While Charlie tries to stall his creditors, he discovers that his rich and estranged father has died and left his multimillion-dollar estate to his autistic savant brother Raymond.

In an attempt to get control of the multimillion-dollar estate, Charlie tries to gain custody of his brother. During the process, he learns about Raymond’s math skills. Charlie devises a plan to earn the money he needs to clear his debts by having Raymond count cards and play blackjack at the Caesar Palace Casino in Las Vegas. In the casino scene, Raymond showcases his ability and wins $86,000.

Final thoughts

These casino movie scenes transport viewers into a thrilling world filled with high-stakes and intense battles of strategy and skill. They allow us to experience the excitement and glamor of playing at traditional casinos from anywhere and provide a glimpse into the appeal of real-life casinos.

Review: EnergyQC Power Bank Pilot X7

The EnergyQC Power Bank Pilot X7 focuses on convenience and portability. This tidy but sizeable power bank boasts a whooping 20,000 mAh charging capacity. Furthermore, it has 3 charging points and can fast charge a device thanks to its 3.1A High-Speed charge port. Consequently, if you are in a hurry, this device has you covered.

Alongside these key features is a handy LED torch. Now, you may think this additional element is gimmicky. However, it proves to be an extremely useful tool. As such, this minor idea makes this device stand out from its peers. On top of this, you can charge 3 devices simultaneously. Therefore, you no longer have to worry about prioritising your mobile phone over your children’s tablets.

What’s in the box of the EnergyQC Power Bank Pilot X7?

  • The compact packaging is understated but robust. This plain box won’t get the juices flowing. However, it is recyclable and protects the contents whilst being delivered.
  • The EnergyQC Power Bank Pilot X7 is pleasant to look at. Its black livery is complemented by red accents. Furthermore, the smooth plastic finish is relatively lightweight compared to its peers. Each port is located at the top end of the device. Moreover, the LED torch is placed here as well. Other than this, there is a tactile button that has an LED charge capacity indicator.
  • A small USB-A to USB-C charging cable is provided to charge the device.
  • Understand the fundamentals thanks to the small but handy user guide.

Technical aspects.

The EnergyQC Power Bank Pilot X7 packs a lot of punch for such a small device. This fast-charging beast allows you to rapidly charge any compatible device. Thanks to the 18W PD port, you’ll notice enhanced charging abilities compared to its leading rival. Alongside this, you can use both the USB-A and USB-C or USB-Micro B ports at the same time. This simple idea was a game-changer that allows you to focus on enjoying your precious time rather than worrying about your power-loving technology.

The variety of ports enhances the compatibility of this device. The USB-A ports are QC3.0 with 18W compatibility. Whereas, the USB-Micro B port is 5V/2A, 9V/A. Finally, the USB-C port is bidirectional! This fantastic design choice allows you to use 1 cable to charge the power bank and any compatible device. Its PD3.0 18W port is suitable for many modern phones or tablets and that is another reason why this stands out from the crowd.

Build quality.

Weighing in at around 325g, the EnergyQC Power Bank Pilot X7 is extremely portable. Furthermore, the black plastic finish doesn’t look or feel cheap. Instead, there is a reassuring, robust nature that is perfect for those that like to camp. Alternatively, maybe you have children that cannot do without power on their precious tech. If this is the case, you are reassured that this device will survive some roughhousing.

My only complaint is minor! I’ve recently reviewed the Monoprice Power Bank 20,000 mAh and was impressed by its wireless charging pad. Sadly, though, this product doesn’t have this excellent feature. Now, this is a small issue but had the EnergyQC Power Bank Pilot X7 had a wireless docking station, then it would have been a mighty impressive device. Instead, if you happen to forget your charging cable, unfortunately, you won’t be able to use this great power bank.

Is the EnergyQC Power Bank Pilot X7 worth it?

Available for less than £29, this power bank is great value for money. Yes, it doesn’t have a wireless docking station, but this feature comes at a cost. The aforementioned Monoprice device is more expensive and much heavier by comparison. Accordingly, if you want something that can slip into your pocket or bag without weighing you down, then the EnergyQC Power Bank Pilot X7 is the way to go. Alongside this, the LED flashlight was an excellent, albeit small feature that impressed me. Therefore, I liked this product and I recommend that you buy it here! If you are shopping in America, you can buy the device here!

The EnergyQC Power Bank Pilot X7 has been awarded the Movies Games and Tech Gold Award.
