Review: KILLBUG

I must admit, what drew me in about KILLBUG was the prospect of killing wasps. I despise those flying buggers. When I was a young boy, a wasp managed to fly under my duvet and sting me repeatedly. The thing flew down the stairs! So the chance to enact some revenge was delightful and I didn’t hesitate. It wasn’t long until the air was thick was stingers and bits of thorax. But then one got the jump on me and the game over screen told me I was killed by a ‘bee sting’.

I felt terrible. Bees are great. They’re central figures in the ecology of the Earth and they’re gosh-darned fuzzy and cute. Best of all, they don’t sting you just for looking at them funny. Still, if we must kill bees at least KILLBUG makes it fun to do so. It’s a lesson in simplicity. All of the game mechanics could be comfortably counted on one hand. It makes the most of its simplistic design though, even if the bare-bones nature causes otherwise small issues to rise to the surface.

KILLBUG - spiders, bees and a centipede attack the player character.

A Bug’s Death

If there is one rule to playing KILLBUG, it’s this: never, ever stop moving. The fly-swatter of Damocles is forever overhead and stopping for one second is enough to make it splat you. Once all the bugs start building up, to stop is to be instantly swarmed. But let’s back up a little bit and give that some context. KILLBUG is an endless arena shooter. In other words, once you press go you’ll be plonked into a map, which before long will start continually filling up with insects until you’re overcome and slaughtered. Then you get a nice little place on a high score table, which becomes your goal for the next run.

What helps KILLBUG stand out from the pack is its absolutely smooth gameplay. It achieves that by keeping things simple. There are only two weapons, for one thing, an uzi and a knife. In my ignorance, I was going to list this as a flaw until I played a few more runs and it suddenly clicked. Rather than juggling an entire arsenal, deciding which one we need for each second, the focus is on chaining together attacks. Melee attacks recover health and ammo, so a frequent move is to spray bullets at distant enemies, slash up what remains to reload then repeat. It’s combined with some great movement mechanics, which makes it easy to navigate around the arena without really thinking about it. When you’re in the zone, it’s thrilling.

The trickle of different enemy types also teach you what you need to know. You’ve got basic ladybugs and bees to teach you the basics. Then there are the segmented centipedes, which introduce you to getting life back through melee. Slugs, and their poison goo, teach you movement mechanics. Spiders teach us why arachnophobia is still good and strong. It’s quite clever really and a good intro to the mechanics without being overwhelming. I do wish it was a little better at explaining some of our skills, though. Occasionally I’ll fly up in the air and get the chance to fire a super shot. Still no idea how to do that.

KILLBUG - Spiders, bees, wasps and a larva hive attack the player.

Simple Slaughter

I think KILLBUG‘s simplicity is its greatest strength. It’s a game you can sink fifteen minutes into between doing other things, just to pump yourself up. I must confess to not really caring about high scores but the gameplay is satisfying enough that I enjoyed myself. That said, in a game as simple as this, small complaints start to seem bigger. The graphics are one. It’s a very particular style, apeing an older style of shooter. I like how it makes the enemies look. They’re all crisp, bright colours that are easy to distinguish from each other at a glance. The rest of the map, though, is muddy greens and browns, which isn’t as pleasant to look at.

Gameplay-wise, there’s something of a missed opportunity here. As it stands, going for the high score is all there is. If you’re burned out on that then your only recourse is to just stop playing. Go clean out the insects in your own house, I guess. I thought perhaps of some sort of unlockable rewards, but not every game needs to be a roguelite. Still, some challenge modes or the ability to mess with enemy spawns would be nice. Perhaps an all spider run, if you’re feeling mental. Failing that, a different map might help. Something to keep you playing once you accept you’ll never crack the top one hundred.

Lastly, a point that might sound inconsequential but is actually vital: the soundtrack is rubbish. Not so much the music itself, but how it doesn’t line up with the gameplay. KILLBUG seems to be playing along to a heavy metal soundtrack that it doesn’t have. If it doesn’t sound important, try playing DOOM with the music muted. Not nearly as fun. In fact, I ended up muting KILLBUG‘s music and playing the DOOM (2016) soundtrack. Not only did my scores go up, so did my enjoyment. Music matters.

KILLBUG - hordes of spiders race towards the player.

Entomophobia

Full disclosure, my high score is a measly 40,300. I’m not really one for chasing high scores usually, most of the time I’m just happy to be here. It’s a testament to KILLBUG that I write that score with a little bit of shame, because when runs are going well, it feels amazing. I want that one perfect run that helps me break 50K. Again, its down to KILLBUG just being simple, good fun. With flawless movement and great combat mechanics, it can just sit back and let you get on with it.

Then, of course, there’s the fact that insects make for good enemies. They’re weird, creepy and explode into goo when you shoot them. KILLBUG takes that premise and runs with it as far as it can go, which results in an excellent arena shooter. While the presentation might let the side down a little, KILLBUG remains fun, frantic and wonderfully exciting.

Today’s best online casinos and the market-leading software providers and game development studios that supply the games to these sites cater to all types of players with almost any kind of budget.

In other words, it doesn’t matter if you are a low roller on a relatively tight budget or a high roller with plenty of cash to spare; there’s a game for you. Let’s dive straight in to discover some of the best high roller online casino games to play in 2023.

What are the best high roller games in 2023?

It all depends on what type of game you’re looking for.

For example, are you looking for a popular computer-generated online casino game which includes things like online slot machines, online scratchcards, online video poker, table & card games, crash/arcade games, bingo, and slingo, or would you prefer cutting-edge live dealer games, which aren’t computer-generated?

You can now find a wide range of more than 1,500 games for high rollers on the official 32red casino site. New players can sometimes claim 32red free spins or a guaranteed matching deposit bonus when they sign up here.

Let’s start by taking a look at some of today’s best dealer games that cater specifically to high rollers. These games are from trusted providers, such as Evolution Gaming, Pragmatic Play, and OnAir Entertainment.

They include the following hit titles, all of which are available to play on desktop and mobile devices:

  • Live 32Red Exclusive Roulette by OnAir Entertainment (the minimum bet per round is £1, and the maximum bet per round is £2,000)
  • Live Card Match Up by OnAir Entertainment (min: £1, max: £2,500)
  • Live Crazy Time by Evolution Gaming (min: £0.10, max: £2,000)
  • Live French Roulette Gold by Evolution Gaming (min: £1, max: £2,000)
  • Live Double Ball Roulette by Evolution Gaming (min: £0.25, max: £2,000)
  • Live XXXtreme Lightning Roulette by Evolution Gaming (min: £0.20, max: £2,000)
  • Live Infinite Blackjack by Evolution Gaming (min: £1, max: £2,000)
  • Live VIP Blackjack (min: £100, max: £2,500)
  • Live Super Andar Bahar by Evolution Gaming (min: £0.50, max: £1,500)
  • Snakes & Ladders Live by Pragmatic Play (min: £0.10, max: £4,500)
  • Live Sweet Bonanza Candyland by Pragmatic Play (min: £0.20, max: £2,500)
  • Live PowerUp roulette by Pragmatic Play (min: £0.10, max: £2,000)

As you can see, everyone from low rollers to high rollers can enjoy playing most of these games. All of these live dealer games only take a few seconds to launch in most web browsers, and they can only be accessed when playing in the real money mode.

What’s the difference between low, medium, and high rollers?

In an online slot machine or table/card game, for example, low stakes are considered anywhere from $/€/£0.01 to $/€/$1.00 or $/€/£2.00 per hand/round/spin.

Medium stakes (mid-rollers) are considered players who bet anywhere from $/€/£5.00 to $/€/£20.00 per hand/round/spin, and high rollers are people who can easily afford to spend anything higher than what mid-rollers are comfortable with spending.

Some high rollers may have enough cash to spend $/€/£100 or $/€/£200 or more per spin in their favourite online slot, and they may be able to play for hours at this stake without it ever really affecting their bankroll.

Low rollers would never dream of spending $/€/£100.00 per spin on their favourite online slot machine. Some low rollers’ entire bankroll may only be $/€/£10 or $/€/£20, whereas high rollers may have several million in their accounts.

What are the most popular online slots for high rollers at today’s best online casinos?

Some of the most popular online slots that let you play high-stakes spins are titles like Immortal Romance, Fishin’ Pots of Gold, Lara Croft: Temples and Tombs, Play Your Cards Right, The Finer Reels of Life, The Goonies: Hey You Guys, and Golden Winner.

Other hit titles many high rollers also like to play in 2023 are Big Bass Splash, King Kong Cash Go Bananza, MONOPOLY on the Money Deluxe, Rise of Olympus 100, and Break Away Deluxe.

You also have Reel King Mega, Fishin’ Pots of Gold: Gold Blitz, Wolf Gold, Gordon Ramsay: Hell’s Kitchen, and Gonzo’s Quest Megaways, to name just a few. Don’t forget that there are thousands of other feature-rich high roller slots to choose from.

Review: MonsGeek M1W – Iso RGB keyboard

The MonsGeek M1W – Iso RGB keyboard is a thing of beauty! This stunning keyboard will wow anyone who glances its way. Not only does it have a phenomenal RGB display, but its sleek metal finish and unusual keycaps are a head-turner. On top of this, its 75% form ensures that it is the perfect option if you need a refined keyboard for a smaller space.

Alongside this, it utilises 5.0 Bluetooth, 2.4Ghz Wireless, and USB-C wired connectivity. Accordingly, it is versatile and perfect for gamers, streamers, and bloggers. Furthermore, the keycaps can be removed and replaced with an array of compatible options. As such, this beautifully formed keyboard can be customised in many ways.

What’s in the box of the MonsGeek M1W – Iso RGB keyboard?

  • The seductive packaging draws you in. However, its lack of information or key images was unusual. Moreover, once you get hands-on with the product, you can’t resist ripping open the box to get started.
  • The MonsGeek M1W – Iso RGB keyboard is surprisingly heavy! The metal casing is alluring and remarkable to look at. Furthermore, it is available in 3 colours. I was provided the black option for this review. The refined finish is spectacular and the only noticeable port is at the top of the device.
  • Spare plate-mounted stabilisers are provided to maintain the high standard of this device.
  • Tools to lift the keycaps and adjust the plate-mounted stabilisers.
  • A Wireless Dongle can be used as an alternative connectivity option.
  • Maintain an old-school approach with the USB-A to USB-C rubberised cable.
  • A Quick Start Guide talks you through the fundamentals.

Technical aspects.

No matter what you use your PC for, you need a responsive and comfortable keyboard. Thankfully, the MonsGeek M1W – Iso RGB keyboard delivers on both of these aspects. Furthermore, it doesn’t matter which connection you use, the keyboard never stutters. I preferred the wired approach. However, during testing, I was impressed by the low latency experience of both the Bluetooth and 2.4Ghz Wireless modes. Another advantage of the 5.0 Bluetooth feature was the ability to connect to multiple devices. By using the in-built macro Fn, you can seamlessly flit from one device to another.

Both the wireless and Bluetooth options require the keyboard to be charged. However, thankfully, this wasn’t an issue. The high-capacity built-in 6000 mAh battery offers up to 25 days of uninterrupted gaming. This figure focuses on a non-RGB approach. Therefore, if you wish to go loud and proud, you’ll enjoy a generous 7 to 8 days of worry-free gaming and typing.

Keycaps.

A poorly designed keyboard will put off the most laid-back user. Luckily, the MonsGeek M1W – Iso RGB keyboard was designed with this in mind. The OEM Profile keycaps are unbelievably comfortable no matter the length of the gaming session. Moreover, the natural position helps to reduce fatigue and typing errors. Yet, if this profile isn’t to your liking, you can customise this keyboard to your heart’s content. Thanks to the south-facing PCB, you can hot-swap the keycaps to any Cherry profile keycaps you may have.

The excellent keycaps are complemented by the linear V3 Piano Pro Switches. The short travel distance ensures that every keystroke is accurate and responsive. Accordingly, this keyboard is the perfect option if you want to game casually or competitively.

Build quality.

This 75%-formed 82-key aluminium keyboard is built to last. Furthermore, its smaller form factor is perfect if you are short on space. Though I like to have a number keypad, I wasn’t put off by this TKL approach. Instead, I admired its compact style and its incredible finish. On top of this, the MonsGeek M1W – Iso RGB keyboard is built up of multiple layers. Accordingly, the manufacturer has usability, noise levels, safety, and comfort at the fore.

Every layer of foam, insulation, and polycarbonate works in harmony to deliver an optimum experience. However, so many components generate a lack of flex that may not be to everyone’s liking. I, however, adored the rigidity and I preferred the reassuring layers of safety and the incredible materials that add to the top-end build quality.

RGB lighting.

The most eye-catching element of this keyboard is the RGB lighting and the side-printed backlit keycaps. Consequently, no matter what lighting mode you use, this keyboard will always turn your head. However, if for any reason you don’t like the pre-set lighting modes, you can create your own using the MonsGeek driver.

This excellent programme allows you to tailor your own lighting set-up for each key! You may utilise a vast array of colours, animation speed levels and brightness to generate a personal design that suits your gaming setup.

Is the MonsGeek M1W – Iso RGB keyboard worth it?

Buying a gaming keyboard can be a daunting task. This marketplace is saturated and getting the right one for your needs is no easy task. However, if you want a keyboard that is striking, stylish, well-built, responsive, and remarkably customisable, then you should look no further. I was impressed with every element of this keyboard and I can’t wait to experiment with the keycaps. Additionally, I adored the ability to adjust the lighting settings. As such, I loved every aspect of this keyboard and recommend buying it here!

Four Classic Children’s Toys That Are Still Popular Today

0

In the ever-evolving world of children’s entertainment, few things remain constant. Video games, apps, and new-fangled gadgets might dominate the scene, but there’s still an enduring charm in classic toys that has kept them loved by children across generations.

Let’s take a look into the world of timeless toys that, despite the modern-day technological revolution, have managed to capture children’s imaginations decade after decade.

The joy of timeless classic toys

In an era where digital distractions are ubiquitous, the continued allure of classic toys speaks volumes about their inherent charm and value. Over the decades, even toys like the Etch A Sketch, Slinky, Rubik’s Cube, and Teddy Bears have remained steadfast in their appeal. These toys have a certain tactile and interactive quality that most modern tech gadgets lack.

Their simplicity forces children to use their imagination, creativity, and physical dexterity. While modern and battery-powered toys offer instant gratification, classic toys challenge and engage young minds, fostering cognitive and motor skills. It’s this unique blend of entertainment, challenge, and tangible interaction that keeps such classics evergreen amidst a sea of digital novelties.

1. Barbie

Introduced in 1959, Barbie, the iconic fashion doll, has undergone numerous transformations over the years, reflecting cultural trends and societal norms. From astronaut to veterinarian, and everything in between, Barbie has shown children that they can be anything. With her diverse range of avatars, including various professions, cultures, and body types, Barbie continues to inspire creativity, storytelling, and dreams in kids around the world.

This classic doll proved to be such a popular toy that Greta Gerwig even directed her most recent film about it – ‘Barbie’, starring Margot Robbie. Reported in early September, Barbie is officially the biggest film of 2023 after making $1.38 billion at the global box office. The recent media coverage of the Barbie film has even led to ‘Barbiecore’ fashion and has grabbed the attention of Barbie lovers both old and new.

2. Lego

These little coloured bricks that clicked together were founded in Denmark in 1932 and the world of toys and children’s entertainment was never the same again. Lego sets have allowed children (and adults) to construct cities and vehicles and even recreate famous movie scenes. More than just a toy, Lego promotes spatial awareness, problem-solving, and creativity.

From the small creations to the big builds, there have been many types of Lego sets sold over the years which have been popular with children. Particularly, Lego Star Wars has released plenty of big sets for eager builders to try out such as sets for the Death Star, Imperial Star Destroyer, and the Millenium Falcon.

Just like Barbie, Lego has also been such a popular toy brand that films have been created around it – The Lego Movie, The Lego Batman Movie, and more. As children begin to explore game consoles and modern tech, the brand has also developed itself into this modern entertainment too with Lego video games available on popular consoles.

3. Play-Doh

Who knew that a simple can of coloured dough could provide endless hours of fun? Originally introduced in the 1950s as a wallpaper cleaner, Play-Doh quickly became a household name as a modelling compound for children. Its tactile nature not only provides sensory pleasure but also aids in enhancing fine motor skills. From making pretend food to crafting intricate designs, Play-Doh remains a go-to choice for creative play.

Now owned by Hasbro, Play-Doh has fast become one of their most famous toys to play with, joining the list of popular Hasbro toys such as Monopoly, Twister, and Furby. Play-Doh is now available in many stores in single cans of individual coloured Play-Doh and in playsets. Whether children want to be creative with kitchen playsets or play with styling kits for Pepper Pig and Bluey, this classic toy offers hours of fun and entertainment for children.

4. Jellycat

While perhaps not as old as some of the other classics on this list, Jellycat, founded in 1999, has garnered a devoted following thanks to its ultra-soft textures and adorable designs. From their adorable Bashful Bunnies to their quirky plush Amuseables and their cute Fuddlewuddles, Jellycat has many soft toys for children (and adults) to collect! Children can even enjoy the cute faces of Jellycat toys shaped in their favourite foods and animals. With Halloween just around the corner, Jellycat even has an adorable Halloween collection full of bats, ghosts, pumpkins, and more.

This toy brand started off in the UK in the late 1990s but has now expanded to shops and stores all around the world. With the help of modern social platforms, the brand has even experienced more coverage online in recent years. On TikTok, there are plenty of TikTok creators showcasing their Jellycat collections which are receiving thousands or even millions of views. It just goes to show that even soft toys are still a popular choice for both children and adults.

Classic toys, with their rich histories and proven appeal, will always hold a special place in our hearts. They remind us of simpler times, evoke nostalgia, and most importantly, continue to bring joy to children today just as they did decades ago. While new toys will emerge and trends will change, the magic of these timeless favourites will always endure.

Review: Agatha Christie – Hercule Poirot: The London Case

Agatha Christie – Hercule Poirot: The London Case is a fun-filled adventure that is faithful to Christie’s original material. Moreover, taking control of this much-loved detective is a thrilling experience. However, this slow title will attract a niche audience. As such, I worry that many gamers will miss this enduring and colourful detective game.

This detective adventure title was developed by Blazing Griffin and published by Microids. What’s more, it focuses on a linear approach whilst asking you to piece together every clue. Consequently, it gets your grey matter going as you listen to the clues and solve every problem you face.

Agatha Christie – Hercule Poirot: The London Case a camp and colourful tale.

Agatha Christie – Hercule Poirot: The London Case is a colourful camp tale that will make you smile throughout. The world-famous Poirot is a treat to control as you experience his overwhelming charm, wit, and impeccable manners. However, there are moments where the hero is pushed to the edge as every possible suspect tries to muddy the water. As such, there are amusing one-liners, and many misconstrued moments that’ll make you chuckle.

The story is a classic affair. Poirot is tasked with protecting the gloriously stunning painting of Mary Magdalene. However, en route, he finds plenty of minor crimes that he must solve. Yet, it is the painting that forms the key moments of this game. When it is stolen from under everyone’s noses, the Belgium detective must step forward and solve the crime.

Who will you suspect of stealing the painting in Agatha Christie – Hercule Poirot: The London Case?
Who has stolen the painting?

Classic point-and-click mechanics.

The core story unfolds at a pleasant pace. Accordingly, you never feel rushed and you have all the time in the world to explore each unique location. However, the linear approach ensures that it is almost impossible to fail at any task. As such, even if you do not know the answer to a problem, you can guess your way to the solution. This was extremely frustrating, as it made the job of solving each mystery undeniably easy.

Yet, if you can put this issue to one side, you’ll experience a fun “who done it” adventure. Furthermore, the drip-fed side quests and loud characters add to the drama. On top of this, I adored the classic point-and-click mechanics. These old-school elements worked perfectly as you freely explored every available room.

Poirot is studying a painting of Joan of Arc.
Study the painting and connect the clues.

Clues and a mind map.

Making progress in Agatha Christie – Hercule Poirot: The London Case was pretty straightforward. Thanks to the combination of the simple-to-find clues and the mind map, you never felt lost or out of your depth. Yet, it was this basic approach that would annoy hardcore fans of the genre. Unfortunately, it was too easy to find essential items and there weren’t enough “red herrings” to keep you guessing. I understand that the developers wished to make this an inclusive and accessible title. However, by dumbing down the difficulty, it will disappoint a key demographic.

This to one side, I loved how the clues and the mind map elements worked. As you identified key items, you could investigate them to find out more details. This then generated interesting clues to help with your investigation. Each of these bits of information was placed in your mind map to help you to solve each crime. Additionally, as you progress, you are given the chance to link essential clues. As such, you’ll piece together each layer of evidence to solve every problem you face.

Agatha Christie – Hercule Poirot: The London Case was pleasant to the eye.

Though Agatha Christie – Hercule Poirot: The London Case can’t be considered “next-gen”, I was impressed by its graphics, nonetheless. The interesting locations and excellent camera viewpoints made this a joy to play. Moreover, the cinematic was great, and each character had a pleasant level of detail. On top of this, the animation was smooth and moving around each area was a treat. Accordingly, I enjoyed exploring each location whilst observing the interesting cutscenes.

The audio was just as good. The developers have worked hard on the ambient sounds and the era-specific soundtrack. Alongside this, the acting was well delivered, and I appreciated the blend of accents and the intriguing characters you encounter.

Search each area and discover the clues.
What clues will you find here?

Excellent controls.

The linear approach, combined with an excellent UI, ensures that Agatha Christie – Hercule Poirot: The London Case is a pleasure to play. Furthermore, the straightforward camera controls and clear-to-identify clues help to keep you on track. Consequently, this is the perfect game if you’ve never experienced a point-and-click adventure.

Where this falls short, however, is its replay value and longevity. Unfortunately, it isn’t the longest game I’ve played, and it is almost impossible to miss any clues. Subsequently, you don’t need to pay too much attention if you wish to progress. This was a shame, as I enjoy being tested from beginning to end. Yet, that didn’t happen as most of the critical clues fell into your lap.

Agatha Christie – Hercule Poirot: The London Case is fun but far too easy.

I enjoyed my time with this game. However, it was far too easy. I understand why the developers focused on a linear approach, but it undermines many of the problem-solving aspects. As such, this will not test veterans of the genre. Yet, if you can overlook the lack of difficulty, you’ll enjoy an excellent story and some sublime acting. Accordingly, I liked what I saw and I recommend that you buy it here! Can you solve every crime? Question the suspects, leave no stone unturned, and show the world why you are the infamous Hercule Poirot.

Strategy Guide on How to Play The Game of Deuces Wild and Win

0

Online gaming offers all kinds of video poker games. You have lots of choices to pick from. Deuces Wild is one of those that most players gravitate to. Its favorability draws from the exciting gameplay and the chance to hit bigger wins if you know how to make the deuces work for you as you play. Savvy players with the right strategy get 100.8% of their wagers back. While Jack or Better gets you with high payouts on the jacks, Deuces Wild takes reel-spinning characteristics. In a feature you would only find on slots, all deuces are turned into “joker” cards, so you can substitute them as you please.

How to Play Deuces Wild

Deuces Wild is played pretty much as you do other video poker games. It is one of the video poker games that almost made it into the flash game era. You have five cards dealt to you when the game starts. You can decide what cards to keep and what cards to get rid of. The cards you no longer want in your hand are replaced by new cards from the deck. Deuces Wild is played with a standard deck of 52 cards with no Joker cards used. Hand rankings are done like on a regular video poker game, except deuces are wild. With this, if you have three kings in your hand and a deuce, this could also be a king. Deuces can change into whatever card you want them to, which is why the game is named so.

Hand Rankings on Deuces Wild

Hand rankings are pretty much the same as you have them on regular poker. There are some differences, for instance, the two-pair hand is not a winning hand in this game. Look through online casinos, and you are bound to find great selection of real money video poker games. Play any of the video poker games available, and see which combinations and playing “hands” you can use. The winning hands below start from the lowest to the highest.

  • Three of a kind – If you have three cards of the same value in your hand or two and a deuce on the board.
  • Straight – A hand with five sequential cards in any suit. A deuce can replace one to make a complete straight.
  • Flush – A hand with four or five cards of the same suit but with a deuce on the board.
  • Full House – When your hand has three of the same card and a pair. This can also apply to two pairs if a deuce is on the board.
  • Four of a kind – When your hand has four cards or three of the same kind with a deuce on the board.
  • Straight Flush – A hand that includes five cards in sequence, all in the same suit. Four sequential cards and a deuce on the board can also form the hand.
  • Five of a kind – It is achievable with four exact kind cards and a deuce on the board.
  • Deuces Royal Flush – Get a 10, jack, queen, king, and ace of the same suit, and one of the cards is replaced with a deuce for you to land this hand.
  • Four Deuces – A round played with four deuces on the board.
  • Royal Flush – A hand that includes a 10, jack, queen, king, and ace of the same suit with no deuces on the board, just like regular poker.

Strategy for Deuces Wild

To play deuces wild on real money casinos and enjoy it to the fullest, you need some strategy to get you more wins as you play more rounds. The game is played so much that it spawned a movie, but most players don’t have the full strategy. The strategy is all about the number of deuces you should hold and what potential winnings you can expect from the deuces you hold.

What to Hold

In Deuces Wild, the lowest hand that gets you a payout is one with three of a kind. Players that get a pair or three cards that look alike after the first round of cards is dealt should consider holding on to these ones. A pair may not payout on the game, but there are higher chances of getting three of a kind when you have a pair in your hand. With three cards that are similar on your hand, you have the chance of landing a full house or five-of-a-kind with a deuce on the board.

Is a 2 Pair Advisable to Hold on Deuces Wild?

In Deuces Wild, holding two pairs means you can only improve your hand to a full house. Holding a two-pair in Deuces Wild is generally not something players do unless you are really going for a gamble that is a tough call. You are better off dropping three cards and choosing what pair you stay with between the two. You drop a pair and one more card because hitting a full house is rare. On the other hand, you have deuces being wild, meaning you have better chances of hitting three of a kind. You can also improve your three-of-a-kind into something better.

Winning Combinations You Can Make When You Have Deuces

As you know by now, the number of deuces you have in your hand determines what cards you drop and how many you draw. Here is how it works.

Four Deuces

This is the golden chance. Hold on to all four deuces and wait for the payout.

Three Deuces

Hold on to the three deuces you have and draw two cards, except if you have a pat royal flush impending. In that case, you should hold on to all five cards and wait for your payout.

Two Deuces

Hold on to any four or five-of-a-kind or straight flush you have on a pat hand. If you don’t have a pat hand, then you should drop three cards holding on to a couple of deuces with exceptions for

  • If you are dealt four to a royal flush
  • If you are dealt four to a straight flush

One Deuce

Having one deuce in your hand means you have more complex decisions to make. Here are the strategies that determine when you hold the deuce.

  • Hold if you are dealt 4-of-a-kind, 5-of-a-kind, royal flush, or straight flush
  • Hold it if you are dealt a full house
  • If you are dealt four to a royal flush
  • If you are dealt four to a straight flush
  • If you are dealt three to a royal flush
  • If you are dealt three of a kind, whether straight or flush

Playing a hand with no deuces gives you more freedom to make decisions, but it gets harder to create a winning hand no matter what version of real money video poker you are playing. You are better off drawing a new hand when you have nothing to work with rather than taking the chance of landing a deuce without dropping enough cards.

Conclusion

Playing Deuces Wild requires you to understand what the deuce could do for you and make it work for you. Strategy all has to do with how many deuces you are dealt with and whether to keep them or drop them. The best thing about strategy here is that it has nothing to do with bankroll and focuses on the hands you are dealt. Play the strategy right, and you may just land hands that you may have never thought to play.

Technical aspects.

Unlike other headphones, bone-conducting headphones must perform perfectly during high-stress moments. Accordingly, they need to deliver exceptional audio as you pound the streets or race along the roads. What’s more, sound quality can be adversely affected by poor headphone placement. Fortunately, the speakers utilise highly efficient Vibrator 3.0 technology. This feature increases the vibration area and improves audio quality.

On top of this, the Naenka Runner Neo Bone Conducting headphones have incredible battery life. One single charge delivers 10 hours of continuous music. Furthermore, you can fully charge the device in under 2 hours. Therefore, this is the perfect option for high-endurance events. As the sound is delivered via your cheekbones, you do not lose any quality. However, if you wish to enhance your experience, you can use the comfortable silicone sound quality enhancers. These odd-looking items sit just inside your ears. However, unlike traditional earbuds, they don’t drive the sound down your ear canals. As such, you needn’t worry about deafening sounds or a lack of situational awareness.

Being able to chuck on your headphones and get on with your workout is a must. Consequently, I require a user-friendly device that is easy to handle. Luckily, the Naenka Runner Neo Bone Conducting headphones tick both of these boxes. Thanks to the wireless charging station, you don’t need to worry about unsightly cables. Build quality.

Hands-free phone calls are an essential feature. Therefore, it was impressive to experience the dual noise-cancelling microphones. This technology ensures that every conversation is peaceful. Additionally, I didn’t experience any interference or uncomfortable feedback.

The silicone finish was fantastic against my skin. Not only was it comfortable, but it was easy to clean. Subsequently, the Naenka Runner Neo Bone Conducting headphones are low maintenance. On top of this, they are lightweight and robust. The titanium neckband is hard-wearing and flexible. Furthermore, the comfortable ear hooks are sturdy and the speaker design is balanced and positioned for optimum performance.

Are the Naenka Runner Neo Bone Conducting headphones worth it?

The bone-conducting and air-conducting market is competitive and exciting. Recently I’ve looked at the Shokz OpenFit earbuds, the Tranya X3 wireless earbuds, and the Naenka Runner Diver 2 bone conducting headphones. Each of these devices impressed me thoroughly. However, except for the latter choice, they are all designed for running, walking, and cycling. Consequently, if you like swimming, I suggest looking at the Runner Diver 2. Accordingly, I adore them and I recommend that you buy them here!

Review: Star Trek Resurgence

If you love Star Trek, you’ll love Star Trek: Resurgence. That could be the entire review, but I’ll say more. Developed by Dramatic Labs, a company founded by former TellTale Games staff, this is a narrative-driven, action-adventure game set around one year after Star Trek Nemesis.

Gameplay

Star Trek: Resurgence is a narrative-driven action-adventure game where you play as both new first officer Commander Jara Rydek and engineer Carter Diaz in a series of episodic chapters that weave you through an epic narrative.

Stationed aboard the USS Resolute and following an accident before the game commences, the ship and her crew are tasked with a thorny diplomatic incident that quickly descends into a gripping story with conspiracy theories and interplanetary politics.

Each short section or chapter plays out a particular scenario of the story. From the first arrival, spacewalking, early negotiations and beyond. In each story-driven moment, you must perform certain actions in time, trigger events and choose your dialogue options wisely. This can also involve some puzzles and mini-games. As a Star Trek fan, these are great because they often involve using all the equipment you see in the shows and movies. I particularly like Diaz’s engineering exploits as it’s incredibly detailed. It’s enough to keep you involved to make it feel like a game. this isn’t, however, a free-roaming action adventure. It’s a narrative game, and as you’d expect from former TellTale staff, it’s a very good narrative game. What you say and do matters as the story progresses, and you can keep track of your relationships with various crew members in the menu.

However, what Star Trek: Resurgence doesn’t have is a morality system. This is unique for a game of this type, but as you play as two Starfleet personnel, perhaps the innate morality of the Federation is just assumed. Either way, it doesn’t detract from your overwhelming dread when making seemingly impossible decisions!

If you’re a fan of interactive, narrative-driven adventures like the games TellTale put out, or things like Life Is Strange, you’ll know what to expect from Star Trek: Resurgence.

Graphics And Voice Acting

Graphically, the game looks wonderful; it’s a joy to explore the starship, interact with the crew and boldly go to many alien worlds. Early in the game, you are walking along the ship’s hull (think that scene from Star Trek First Contact), and my mind was blown. It looked and felt awesome.

If the graphics aren’t enough to convince you, then the voice acting will be. All the cast did an excellent job portraying alien enemies, crew, and other personnel. If they ever want to hire the cast and make an animated show, I’d watch it, and it would be one of the finest Trek shows.

Then, finally, the cameos, with two well-known Trek characters turning up in Star Trek: Resurgence, really do ground the game in the franchise, which helps draw you into the overall narrative.

A special mention must go to the voice actor portraying Spock, one of the franchise’s most well-known and beloved characters. It’s always a brave move, including a legacy character, especially when the original actor sadly dies. But this Spock is convincing, truly wonderful and believable.

Star Trek: Resurgence Is A Masterpiece With One Flaw

While I loved playing this game, it isn’t 100% perfect. There are odd graphical glitches and a little stuttering here and there. It’s not game-breaking at all, but it takes you out of the immersion a little bit when you notice strange shadows on people’s faces or artefacts around characters.

That’s my only complaint; hopefully, it can be patched out.

Final Thoughts On Star Trek Resurgence

Star Trek: Resurgence is a fantastic game that allows players to feel like they’re part of the Star Trek Universe. Through great storytelling, fun mini-games and puzzles and many action-triggers, you’ll be taken on a journey where you’ll fall in love with the crew, cheer at anything recognisable and marvel at the details. If you like narrative-based games and are a Star Trek fan, boldly go and play it right now.

Review: The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a much-loved old-school franchise. Moreover, this original horror tale is disturbing and stomach-churning. Accordingly, I’m surprised that it has taken this long for a developer to create an asymmetrical horror title. However, here we are, better late than never. Yet, will this fresh take on a well-trodden genre be too little too late?

This asymmetric multiplayer horror title was developed by Sumo Nottingham and published by Gun Interactive. However, unlike its peers, this creepy-ass experience has more than one antagonist. Accordingly, you get plenty of tactical choices and even more jump scares. Furthermore, it has plenty of familiar mechanics whilst remaining pretty faithful to the original ideas. As such, this will be perfect for fans of the film and lovers of this hardcore genre.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre tells a disturbing story.

The Sawyer family is not to be messed with. This slaughterhouse team comprises many slasher stereotypes. As such, they’ll stop at nothing to brutally murder every innocent victim. This is the crux of the action. 3 people must play the gruesome hunters. Whereas, 4 players will be the hunted. This deadly game of cat and mouse is uncomfortable, gory, and gloriously repetitive.

If you take on the role of a family member, one of you must play the part of Leatherface. This chainsaw-wielding maniac is great fun to control. However, the rest of the group is equally enjoyable. There is the Cook and the Hitchhiker, and Johnny and Sissy. Each of these antagonists has its strengths and weaknesses. Furthermore, combining each trio delivers unique tactical nuances. Consequently, it is these levels of detail that make playing the family such a joy.

Leatherface is chasing through the corn with his chainsaw.
A classic image.

Grandpa Sawyer.

Alongside the classic slasher action, you can use Johnny’s tracker sense or Sissy’s poison ability. Nonetheless, the goal remains the same: kill the survivors and feed blood to Grandpa Sawyer. Classed as the greatest murderer ever to roam the planet, this family head is important. As you gather vials of blood to empower him, the action becomes deadlier. As he becomes stronger, he creates a pulsating sonar that highlights the survivors’ positions.

This increasingly deadly skill enhances the fear factor of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Additionally, if you are playing the part of a victim, you’ll feel under the cosh immediately. As such, at first, the action feels unbalanced and unfair. Yet, once you get used to your surroundings and the tasks you must complete, you can manipulate the situation to turn the odds in your favour.

Always the victim.

Playing the victim may seem a poor choice. However, in reality, it is a stomach-churning and enjoyable experience. Your team may choose to work together or go it alone. Whatever you decide, you must live with the consequences. The aim when playing a victim is to become a survivor. Yet, to do this requires plenty of planning and a lot of luck.

You must sneak between gaps and hide in convenient locations. Additionally, you must find items to unlock doors or turn off the power. What’s more, there is a host of characters to choose from. Subsequently, each person has a unique ability to assist you as you escape. Therefore, it is best to work together to enhance your chances.

Hiding will only prolong the agony.
You can’t hide forever.

Balanced gameplay.

The family and the victims are beautifully balanced between fearful gameplay and horrific hunting. However, once you master each person’s fundamental abilities, you can turn the odds in your favour. On top of this, there is a detailed skill tree for every playable character. Accordingly, you can improve your passive abilities each time you level up.

Sadly, though, the cosmetic element of the action is somewhat lacklustre. This feature isn’t something that bothers me. Yet, I know people love to highlight their godly skills. As such, those gamers will be disappointed by the lack of additional cosmetics.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is creepy as hell.

Sumo Nottingham has generated a suspenseful and uncomfortable game. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre captures every creepy and atmospheric moment of the 1974 film. Moreover, the original cast of antagonists is well-represented. Consequently, I admired the animation and every brutal moment. Whether you are crawling through tight spaces or being brutally murdered, it is a wonderfully unpleasant experience.

Audio makes a horror title. Consequently, if this is poorly executed, you’ll lose your audience. Thankfully, though, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has exceptional audio! Every bone-chilling sound will keep you in suspense. Additionally, the horrific antagonists will make your blood pressure rise. Alongside this, the blood-curdling scream of Grandpa Sawyer never gets old.

Hiding in the shadows may save your life.
Stay hidden in the shadows.

A great tutorial, but a tough learning curve.

This genre is tough to master. Even though the tutorial was thorough and well-considered, I struggled with the basics. However, once you become familiar with each character and your surroundings, things become much more manageable. Furthermore, the aforementioned skill tree helps as well. As such, you will need time and patience to get the most out of this game.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a love/hate title. Yet, if you adore what you see, you’ll play this for hours on end. Moreover, there are so many unique elements to discover. Subsequently, no playthrough is the same, and this adds to longevity and replay value. My only complaint, however, is the time it takes to join a lobby. Unfortunately, it can be extremely frustrating as players leave unexpectedly. Nevertheless, once you find a good group of players, you can play this all night.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre captures the essence of the film.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is an excellent game if you love Friday the 13th or Dead by Daylight. This tricky but rewarding genre is better with friends. However, it’s fascinating and enjoyable when you are alone. Thanks to the tactical nuances and the challenging gameplay, no playthrough is ever the same. Consequently, I loved it and I recommend that you buy it here! Can you become the ultimate murderer? Alternatively, will you be able to escape the deadly Sawyer family?

Review: The Lord of the Rings: Gollum

When the announcement came that there was going to be a Lord of the Rings game coming out, I was excited. I love that franchise and the world that Tolkien built. I felt nostalgic for the games I enjoyed in the past, like Battle for Middle Earth, the Trilogy games, and especially Shadow of Mordor and War of the Ring. Probably loads more. When they announced the titular character was going to be Gollum, I was sceptical. Intrigued but sceptical. When I played it, I felt the same crushing disappointment I felt when the end credits rolled on Return of the King, and I knew there were no more Lord of the Rings movies (before the Hobbit was announced!). The Lord of the Rings: Gollum deserved to be better, but does this universally panned game have any redeeming features?

Gameplay

Gollum takes place between the events of The Hobbit and Fellowship of the Ring and sees Gollum recanting his time between these two moments in the timeline. He’s recounting this to Gandalf the Grey who is visiting him in an elven cell.

It isn’t all doom and gloom; however, you do get to meet some legendary characters from the franchise, which, if you’re a Lord of the Rings nerd like me, is a pleasure to see. There are also some good mechanics in the game, the mini-game where you get to decide which personality dictates the course of action, for example. Even the voice acting and score are solid throughout and will definitely make you feel like you’re in the universe. What doesn’t work, however, is everything else.

Stealth, Is Not My Precious

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is a stealth game at its heart. The action is fleeting, and you’ll find yourself trying to creep through areas, unseen, and causing distractions for silent takedowns. This all makes perfect sense for Gollum as a character. It’s also challenging; if you’re seen, you can insta-fail the section and must restart from the checkpoint.

However, the mechanics aren’t reinventing the wheel; sadly, other stealth games have done it better. It’s also worth noting that you will spend much of your time running repetitive quests to fetch things for people or puzzles that lack sophistication or challenge.

Visuals

Visually, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum does look decent; the lighting is good, the textures are nice, and the world feels like Mordor. However, even with my high-end gaming system, I still experienced numerous moments of lag, graphical glitches and more. That, to me, means the game wasn’t that well-optimised for the PC version I tested.

The biggest visual problem comes with the character models. Many of them feel flat, with poor shadow and texture details, and when you’ve grown up with the books, films, and other games, it all feels a little off. Now, games, of course, can instil their own visual design language, but sadly, it didn’t work here. Gollum is the stuff of nightmares and could have done with work. The Wraiths looked far too clean, and the Orcs… looked too like one another.

Gollum Chases Bugs… The Game is Full of Them

Within the first 18 minutes of gameplay, I ended up in a cutscene, jumping a gap and being chased by two Orcs. Sadly, the game crashed, and I was stuck watching one of these Orcs running at the ledge as if they were stuck in a wall. I was nowhere to be seen, so restarting the checkpoint was the only way to try and get past this moment again.

Text warnings often lingered on the screen and didn’t fade away. This was useful when reading it, but it became distracting and frustrating when it blocked my view of the enemies I needed to keep an eye on.

That, combined with camera blur stutter when turning the camera around and just general stuttering switching between cut scenes and gameplay moments just felt cumbersome and rushed. Then there’s controlling Gollum itself. This is painful as Gollum feels clunky in his movement, not to mention inconsistent with grabbing and taking down opponents.

Final Thoughts on The Lord of the Rings: Gollum

I really wanted to like The Lord of the Rings: Gollum. I genuinely wanted to enjoy a unique take on a game set in the Lord of the Rings universe. Sadly, Gollum misses the mark. While the story is actually interesting, the gameplay, bugs and mechanics make it a painful slog.
