Fujifilm announce the retro looking XF1 compact digital camera

Fujifilm today announced the launch of the XF1, a pocket-sized premium compact digital camera.

XF1_Brown_Front_Left_Wide_Flash

This latest addition to Fujifilm’s X-series range of cameras is due to be on sale in November this year. With its perfectly matched lens and sensor, careful attention to detail on appearance and design, and accessible technology, the XF1 extends the X series range to a much wider audience.

The XF1’s stunning retro body features a newly-developed f/1.8 FUJINON lens with a manual 4× optical zoom (25mm-100m). The 2/3-inch EXR-CMOS sensor and EXR Processor provide the superior image quality, feel, and ease-of-use people have come to expect from Fujifilm’s X series. Compact enough to take anywhere with you, the XF1 enables you to shoot high-quality photos whenever you feel the urge. In terms of appeal, the XF1 functions equally well as an upgrade to a compact camera or as a second, “back-up” camera for the more advanced photographer.

Highly praised for their superior image quality and ease of use, Fujifilm’s X series cameras are aimed at those “passionate about photography” and currently features the award-winning X-Pro1, X100, X10, and X-S1 along with the new recently announced X-E1.

High-end design

Meticulous attention to ease-of-use and the choice of premium materials produces a stylish, high-end design for the XF1. The aluminium body is both light and durable, while the synthetic leather covering reproduces the feel of genuine leather while ensuring an improved grip. The XF1 comes in a choice of three very appealing colours: Tan, Black and Red.

Manual 4x zoom lens (25mm-100mm)

Newly developed for the XF1, the wide-angle, f/1.8 lens features a manual 4× optical zoom (25mm-100m) operated simply by twisting the zoom ring. This offers the photographer the ability to compose shots quickly and conveniently. The camera is powered on by a twist of the lens ring, and when in standby, the ring can be pushed into the body to minimise camera size and aid portability.

Stunning results in low light with f/1.8 lens

The XF1’s fast f/1.8 lens allows poorly-lit subjects to be photographed without raising sensitivity levels, keeping noise to a minimum. The slim-line lens achieves its aperture of f/1.8 with a construction that features 7 lens elements in 6 groups (four aspherical and three extra low dispersion), the first with a highly variable profile and a high refractive index, and the second an aspherical element with an extremely high refractive index. All elements are subjected to FUJINON’s unique Wide-band High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating process (developed for FUJINON broadcast-use lenses), reducing ghosting and flare for crisp results in even the most difficult shooting conditions.

Featuring a unique Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) mechanism that shifts one group of four lens elements to reduce blur, while avoiding colour shading and lost resolution at the edges of the image, the XF1 will ensure that noise levels are minimised to produce clear low-light photographs.

Other features include Macro photography at ranges as close as 3 cm, and also the opportunity to capture images using the beautiful “Bokeh” depth of field effect (for crisp subjects set against out-of-focus backgrounds) by taking advantage of the XF1’s fast lens and six diaphragm blades.

XF1_Black_Front_Left_Standby

Premium high image quality with a larger 2/3-inch EXR CMOS sensor

Everyone can take full advantage of the superb image taking potential of the XF1 by using Fujifilm’s premium EXR Auto mode, the technology takes charge and selects the optimum settings (from 103 patterns according to the scene’s demands), making extremely high photo quality easy to achieve, with almost any subject, whatever your ability!

Adjustable sensor controls are still on offer for the more advanced photographer. The 2/3-inch, 12 million pixel EXR-CMOS sensor features Fujifilm’s three switchable sensor modes (SN – high ISO and low noise, DR dynamic-range, and HR resolution) which can be selected according to the subject for bright, sharp images.

Fast AF in even dark scenes with EXR processor

With its EXR-CMOS sensor and EXR processor, the XF1 camera offers fast Auto Focus speeds even in dark scenes. The quick read time of the CMOS sensor, coupled with the high-speed EXR processor, accelerates all operations; start-up in just 0.55 seconds, focus acquisition in as little as 0.16 seconds, and minimum shot-to-shot time of just 0.8 seconds. Additionally, the EXR processor offers high-speed processing for hassle-free HD movie recording and burst-mode photography.

Manual feeling with new GUI

A rich assortment of multi-function controls is available to those who prefer to select camera settings manually. The main command dial simplifies the task of altering the shutter speed and aperture, while up to 6 frequently-used settings can be assigned to the expanded-function button as desired, allowing the photographer to capture the scene exactly as intended through intuitive operations performed while viewing the LCD monitor. With it s bright, 3.0-inch/460K dot premium clear LCD monitor with tempered glass which protects from scratches, you will not be disappointed.

Artistic filters

The XF1 features a new “advanced filter” option that lets you enjoy quite different forms of photographic expression. Choose from 11 creative filters; Pop colour, Toy camera, Miniature, High-key, Dynamic tone, and six Partial colour options (shoot in B&W plus one selective colour: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple), and preview the effect of any of the filters on the LCD monitor.

Fujifilm XF1 key features list:

  • Pocketable premium camera available in 3 stunning colours (Tan, Black and Red)
  • 12 megapixel 2/3” EXR-CMOS sensor with EXR-Auto

Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn Joyride vignette released

0

343 Industries has premiered the fourth instalment of a series of vignettes from the upcoming live-action digital series, “Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn.”

Halo4_ForwardUntoDawn_KeyArt_11x17_F

Called “Joyride”, the video explores the recruits at the Corbulo Academy of Military Science, where they train with all UNSC equipment and tactical gear, including vehicles. One recruit is a little too enthusiastic about Corbulo’s specially modified Warthog.

Check out Joyride below:

“Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn” tells an exciting story of heroism and sacrifice on a scale never before seen in the “Halo” universe, taking fans back to the beginning of the human and Covenant war and leading into the events of “Halo 4.” Set against the backdrop of a United Nations Space Command (UNSC) military academy, a group of highborn cadets are training to be the next generation of soldiers in the UNSC’s ongoing war with insurrectionists in the outer colonial planets. Among these cadets, Thomas Lasky struggles with his doubts about this war, and with the burden of expectations he may not be able to carry. As Lasky comes to terms with his potential as a military leader, the terrifying alien alliance known as the Covenant arrives and turns his world upside down. Inspired by the Master Chief, he must decide what it means to be a hero. “Halo” fans that experience Lasky’s thrilling origin story in “Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn” will be rewarded with special insights into the story of “Halo 4” and the “Halo Infinity Multiplayer” experience.

Directed by Stewart Hendler (“H+,” “Sorority Row”) and written by Todd Helbing and Aaron Helbing (“Smallville,” “Spartacus”), “Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn” features a diverse cast of established and up-and-coming Hollywood talent, including Tom Green (“Dance Academy”) as Thomas Lasky, Anna Popplewell (“The Chronicles of Narnia”) as Chyler Silva, Daniel Cudmore (“X2,” “X-Men: The Last Stand,” “The Twilight Saga”) as the Master Chief, Ayelet Zurer (“Angels & Demons,” “Munich”) as Mehaffey, Mike Dopud (“Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol”) as General Black, Enisha Brewster (“Footloose”) as April Orenski, Masam Holden (“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Elizabethtown”) as Michael “Sully” Sullivan, Osric Chau (“2012”) as JJ Chen, Iain Belcher (“Supernatural”) as Vickers, and Kat De Lieva as Dimah.

“Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn” is backed by a top-tier production team led by executive producers Lydia Antonini and Josh Feldman, former Warner Bros. and Playtone executives, respectively. Continuing its involvement with the “Halo” franchise, Legacy Effects (“The Hunger Games,” “The Avengers,” “Avatar”) is creating specialised costumes and armor, and visual effects are being designed by an award-winning team led by John Sullivan (“The Pacific”). Production services are provided by Herzog & Co.

An extended, 90-minute Special Edition featuring additional footage and bonus content will be available Nov. 6 in the “Halo 4” Limited Edition and on video on-demand services.

Set almost five years after the events of “Halo 3,” “Halo 4” takes the series in a bold new direction and sets the stage for an epic new sci-fi saga, in which the Master Chief returns to confront his destiny and face an ancient evil that threatens the fate of the entire universe. In addition to a rich story and campaign, “Halo 4” introduces a groundbreaking new multiplayer offering, called “Halo Infinity Multiplayer,” that builds off of the “Halo” franchise’s rich multiplayer history and promises to continue to innovate and redefine the way people think about storytelling and multiplayer experiences.

A look at The Poetry App for the iPad from the Josephine Hart Poetry Foundation

Stars from  the world of theatre, film and television have been brought together on The Poetry App to breathe life into the works of great poets and we were invited along to take a look.

CDW - The Poetry App - 1

The Poetry App, created by The Josephine Hart Poetry Foundation, uses technology to make poetry more accessible to the digital generation.

Users can read, listen to or watch a video of well-known names performing the works of 16 great poets – or do all at the same time if they so wish.

The collection of 115 poems are read on the app by over 30 great British actors and actresses including Bafta winner Dominic West of The Wire and Appropriate Adult, Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens, which returns to TV this month, Silent Witness’ Emilia Fox, Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, Harold Pinter and songwriter and campaigner Bob Geldof, as well as theatre greats Charles Dance and Juliet Stevenson.

Screenshot backdrop

The Poetry App is created in the vision of novelist and long-time poetry evangelist Josephine Hart, who believed that without the works of poetry included on the app, such as those by Auden, Shelley, Kipling, Plath and Keats, “life would be less bearable and infinitely less enjoyable.”

Users can compile their favourites into an online anthology to fill their digital bookcase. If inspired to pen their own verse, The Poetry App allows users to write, record and share their work with poetry appreciators and newcomers, with a simple click; and if they’re suffering from writer’s block, take inspiration from the great poets via collections of words which feature in their poetic masterpieces.

CDW - The Poetry App - 2

And here is the video of the app in action, along with how the app was made.

This is a really interesting way of getting people interested in poetry.

The Poetry App if free and is available on Android, iPad and iPhone devices and features in the Top 40 book category on the iTunes App store.

7 more tracks for We Sing 80s game revealed, including Queen and Toto

0

Following the success of We Sing Pop!, We Sing 80’s is coming in a few weeks and we can reveal the next 7 tracks.

80s_2D_Large_UKV_RGB_thumb1_thumb

The 80s will be remembered for many things – big hair, fluorescent socks and Cabbage Patch Kids, to name but three – but perhaps its most famous export is the music.

Fans of the decade which gave us power ballads, soft rock and some of the most memorable songs ever written are in for a treat this October, as Nordic Games Publishing announces We Sing 80s.

We Sing 80s will feature 30 nostalgic favourites, covering the unforgettable decade’s cult hits and dazzling disco tracks, all of which include the original videos. Each song has its own difficulty rating and can be played in short or full length song modes.

Party mode includes We Sing, Versus, Group Battle, Pass The Mic, First to X, Marathon, Blind and Expert. There’s also Solo mode, which can also be played in Blind and Expert mode. Karaoke mode strips the track of vocals to really challenge players, or those that fancy an authentic karaoke experience.

Other features include Singing Lessons to help singers fine tune their voices and a Jukebox to queue up songs like their own personal music channel.

In-game awards come from playing either single or multiplayer modes, adding further depth and replay value to We Sing 80s. Plus, once a track has been sung, players can replay performances and add cool effects to their voice.

More points come thanks to Star Notes which provides extra points for hitting hard notes and Player Statistics give a detailed breakdown on performance on notes hit and missed with a comment on your performance at the end.

The third batch of songs to be revealed is:
· Queen – I Want to Break Free
· Toto – Africa
· Frankie Goes to Hollywood – The Power of Love
· Starship – Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now
· The Human League – Don’t You Want Me
· Sade – Smooth Operator
· Lionel Ritchie – All Night Long (All Night)
· Cameo – Word Up!

queen_hd

One of the most famous rock bands in history, Queen, make their way on the tracklist for We Sing 80s with I Want To Break Free. In April 1984, the song hit number three in the UK and featured in the top 10 of a number of European and Latin American countries.

toto_hd

Africa, sung by rock band Toto featured on their 1982 album Toto IV. It reached number three in the UK Singles Chart in February 1983 and in the same month Africa took the sates by storm and achieved the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

frankie_hd

Released by Frankie Goes to Hollywood in November 1984, The Power of Love had a slower melodic rhythm that stood out from other tracks. With the video’s decidedly festive theme, the track reached the top of the tree as the Christmas number one in the UK.

humanleague_hd

One of the most memorable tracks of the 80s, Don’t You Want Me sung by The Human League had music lovers euphoric, with 1,400,000 copies sold in the UK, making it the 25th most successful single in UK Singles Chart history. In 1981, Don’t You Want Me hit was Christmas number 1 in the United Kingdom and later topped the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks in the United States in July 1982.

sade_hd

Smooth Operator was the fourth and final single to be released from the group Sade from their debut album Diamond Life in 1984.The song lives up to its name with beautiful instrumental and smoothly sung lyrics. It peaked at number five in the US Billboard Hot 100 charts and was Sade’s most successful international hit.

lionelrichie_hd

The ever famous Lionel Ritchie raised his profile ever more with timeless classic All Night Long (All Night). Lionel Ritchie took a new dance approach, which proved popular and helped All Night Long reach number one on three Billboard charts (Pop, R&B and Adult Contemporary). It was also a huge success in the UK, remaining at number two on the UK Singles Chart for three weeks.

cameo_hd

Cameo, the soul-influenced funk group from America focused on their funk dance tracks and the track Word Up! saw a continuation of that theme. The song was an immense success in the 80s making many chart appearances, with Cameo’s first US Top 40 hit peaking at number six. Word Up! also spent three weeks at number one on the US Hot Black Singles chart, one week at number one on the US Hot Dance Singles chart and reached number three in the United Kingdom.

So that’s the next 7 of the 30 tracks revealed. Back at Gamescom a few weeks ago I got a sneak preview of the rest of the tracks, and even sang one of them, and I can reveal that I sang Don’t You Want Me by the Human League, but I didn’t sing it alone, did I Luke?
