Microsoft Newest Console the Xbox One will not offer a self-publishing option to indie developers on Xbox Live Arcade. Microsoft has revealed that it will continue its policy of demanding that all developers win a publishing contract with Microsoft Game Studios or with a third-party partner.
The current limitations have prevented several games from ever arriving on the platform. Xbox Live Indie Games is exempt from Microsoft’s otherwise stringent policy.
“We intend to continue to court developers in the ways that we have,” general manager of Redmond Game Studios and Platforms Matt Booty told Shack News.
“I would also expect that for this new generation, that we’re going to continue to explore new business models and new ways of surfacing content. But Microsoft Studios is a publisher that works with a wide range of partners, as do a lot of other people, to bring digital content to the box.”
Following the arrival of Call of Duty: Black Ops II Uprising to PS3 and PC, Activision wanted to give you an exclusive behind the scenes look at the making of The Replacers Uprising launch trailer with actors Peter Stormare and J.B Smoove.

Today Microsoft has teased the arrival of a “historic” Rare franchise on its newly unveiled Xbox One. The company has promised 15 exclusive games from its stable of first-party studios in the first 12 months following its next-generation console’s release, one of which will be based on one of the veteran Goldeneye and Perfect Dark developer’s properties.
“Fans of Rare and Rare IP I think will be pleased with what we’re going to show at E3,” Microsoft Studios corporate vice president Phil Spencer told Polygon.
“We had a limited amount of time today and a lot of story to tell. But Rare remains an incredibly important part of our development capability.
“That historic IP that they’ve built I think can play a real important role on Xbox One.”
Microsoft purchased Rare Ltd in 2002. The developer continues to hold the rights to the Banjo-Kazooie, Conker, Perfect Dark and Killer Instinct franchises, and also developed new properties Kameo: Elements of Power, Viva Pinata and Kinect Sports for the Xbox 360.
Last year, Microsoft attempted to renew the trademark for the fighting game Killer Instinct, but was blocked by a Fox TV crime drama of the same name.
It’s been confirmed that the Xbox One won’t support Xbox 360 peripherals. Microsoft has said that advancements in wireless technology and Kinect tracking mean that controllers from the previous system won’t be supported.
“Xbox One was designed from the ground up with entirely new technology to deliver a new generation of experiences for both games and entertainment,” read the statement sent to Joystiq.
“For example, the Wireless Controller will connect to the console using high speed data transfer to enable higher fidelity headset audio and future controller add-on experiences that are not possible with Xbox 360 wireless technology.
“Additionally, the all-new Kinect sensor’s ability to locate the wireless controller is dependent on new technology.
“In order for Xbox One to deliver robust, meaningful gaming scenarios for all users across all experiences, only Xbox One controllers and accessories will work with the new console.”
Destiny will be released on the new Xbox One. Halo studio Bungie confirmed the news via its official Facebook page on Tuesday (21 May).

Microsoft has unveiled Forza Motorsport 5 for the Xbox One, and confirmed that it will be a launch title. A trailer for Turn 10 Studios’ newest racing title was presented by Phil Spencer at the Xbox One unveiling yesterday (May 21).
Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox One will offer an expanded friend list compared to the Xbox 360. Answering questions on Twitter, the Xbox Support account revealed that Xbox One will let users store up to 1,000 people on their friend list.
Speaking with Polygon, Microsoft’s Marc Whitten added that “you’ll see us pulling friends from across other social experiences”.
For example, Xbox One could add friends from a user’s Facebook account, which would likely require more friend list spots than the Xbox 360’s 100-friend limit allows.
Announced yesterday (May 21), Xbox One – described as an all-in-one “ultimate home entertainment system” – will be launched later this year.
Microsoft has confirmed that while Xbox One won’t require an always-on connection, there will be a fee to play used games.
Microsoft has announced a new live-action television show based on the Halo series. The programme will be overseen by Halo 4 developer 343 Industries, with Steven Spielberg as the executive producer.
“The Halo universe is an amazing opportunity to be at that intersection where technology and myth-making meet to produce something truly groundbreaking,” Spielberg said during the Xbox One reveal event.
It is unknown where in the Halo series the show will take place, or which characters will appear.
The show will debut on Xbox One, though there is no air date yet for the series, and it is unclear if it will be broadcast outside of Xbox One.
