The new compact MOMENTUM On-Ear headphones are stylish without compromising on sound quality. The new headphones feature a headband and earpads finished in high-tech Alcantara, a specialised luxury material loved by yacht and automotive upholsterers for its unique combination of softness, durability, and breathable comfort, whilst giving the wearer a great listening experience on the move, even in noisy urban environments. Lightweight sliders of premium brushed stainless steel complete the high end look and a single sided detachable cable with in-line remote and mic for Apple iDevices means easy control for music, making and receiving calls.

What’s in the Box?

The box contains a carry case containing the headphones, some manuals and a spare cable (which is always useful, especially if you have cats that like to chew on cables!)

CDW Review of the Sennheiser MOMENTUM On Ear Headphones - 1CDW Review of the Sennheiser MOMENTUM On Ear Headphones - 2CDW Review of the Sennheiser MOMENTUM On Ear Headphones - 3

The is quite large as the headphones themselves don’t fold up, but it looks great and offers a lot of protection.

CDW Review of the Sennheiser MOMENTUM On Ear Headphones - 4

Inside the case there is also a pocket to store your spare cable or anything else small.

CDW Review of the Sennheiser MOMENTUM On Ear Headphones - 5

The spare cable is just a cable, it doesn’t have the remote that the main cable has, but it’s useful non the less.

CDW Review of the Sennheiser MOMENTUM On Ear Headphones - 6

A Closer Look

Inside the carry case is a cloth bag with the headphones in which provides another layer of protection, which you can’t get enough of!

CDW Review of the Sennheiser MOMENTUM On Ear Headphones - 7

The iRemote has the all the usual abilities you would expect for listening to music, it also has a built in mic and the ability to be used to make and receive phone calls. It can be used with any Apple idevice (so the iPod, iPad or iPhone).

CDW Review of the Sennheiser MOMENTUM On Ear Headphones - 8CDW Review of the Sennheiser MOMENTUM On Ear Headphones - 9

You can easily detach the cable to either replace it with another or for easy transport. It just a small turn of the connector and pull the cable out. This is good as it stops the cable from falling out.

CDW Review of the Sennheiser MOMENTUM On Ear Headphones - 16

Ensuring that the headphones fit comfortably on your head is easy as the ear cups are easily positioned by moving them on the headband.

CDW Review of the Sennheiser MOMENTUM On Ear Headphones - 11

As you can see, the headband and the ear pads are covered with Alcantara (and the colour is dependant on which one you purchased). The Alcantara is very soft and even after prolonged used I didn’t feel any discomfort.

CDW Review of the Sennheiser MOMENTUM On Ear Headphones - 12

And in the recent heat we have had here in the UK having a material that is breathable certainly helps the comfort factor, as there is nothing worse than having the ear pads stick to your ears!

CDW Review of the Sennheiser MOMENTUM On Ear Headphones - 13

And as well as being practical, it also looks great!

Final Thoughts

I am a big fan of Sennheiser mics – I use a set of their wireless lav mics when I do video interviews, and I have used a set of in-ear headphones in the past, so I was happy to try on a pair of the new Momentum on-ear headphones and see just how they sounded.

WP_20130704_003_thumb

I do a lot of travelling and so having a really good quality pair of headphones is really important to me. They have to have great sound (which is a given really) but also be comfortable as I can often wear them for many hours at a time.

The Momemtum on-ear headphones do not disappoint and they ticked both boxes for me perfectly. I wore them on a recent flight and they were very comfortable, however they are not noise cancelling so you may find they are better suited to quieter environments, such as your home, where they excel.

There is also the added bonus of having a built-in microphone as part of the iRemote which means that I didn’t need to take off the headphones to make or receive calls. Personally I don’t see myself using that feature much when I am out and about (that’s a personal preference) but when I am at home, that’s a different matter.

I also liked that the cable was removable and replaceable. The removable part makes it very easy to transport in the headphone case (there is a pouch for it) and the fact it is replaceable means that when one of my cats decides to eat through the wire (as so often happens with cats) I don’t need to replace the entire thing, just the cable.

There are four different colours to choose from too! So if you want a good looking, practical high quality pair of headphones then you should definitely take a look, and a listen, to the Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear headphones, you won’t be disappointed.

The Momentum On-Ear headhphones are priced at a very reasonable £169.99 and are available now from John Lewis or via Sennheiser’s online store. They come in either Pink, Green, Ivory or Blue (the colour we reviewed).

FIFA Ultimate Team is the most popular game mode within EA SPORTS FIFA, with over 3.4 million games played daily—where fans create unique squads to play their preferred style of football. This year ultimate squad customization is possible with the addition of all-new Chemistry Styles that will make every player and every team unique. Each Chemistry Style has a unique effect on the way a player performs by enhancing specific attributes during a match. Players start with Basic Chemistry Styles but these can be changed by applying Chemistry Style training items to the player.

These items will be randomly available in any pack that can contain a gold rare item; they can be earned in-game, acquired on the Transfer Market and randomly attained in packs that are purchased.  There are a variety of different Chemistry Styles that can be applied to goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and forwards. After crafting their squads, fans will be able to test their talents in the popular Seasons mode, now expanded to 10 divisions, online single games and tournaments.

Plus, new streamlined search filters will help target coveted players in the Transfer Market as fans re-shape their teams based on the real-world performances of their favourite players. Additional features in FIFA 14 Ultimate Team will be revealed in the weeks ahead.

Experience the emotion of scoring great goals in FIFA 14. Innovations to the award-winning gameplay make the game more authentic and more fun. Dictate the tempo of a match, create chances through midfield, and then unleash the perfect strike.  A new feature called Pure Shot and a brand-new ball physics system will transform shooting, making every shot attempt feel real, and when players connect with the perfect strike, feel exhilarating.

FIFA 14 will release in North America on 24th September and worldwide on 27th September and the game will be available on Xbox One, and the PlayStation4, later this year.

Hands on look at Disney Infinity and Overview with Producer John Day

With the success of Activision’s Skylanders game series, which I like to play with my kids it didn’t come to a surprise when Disney announced a companion toy/DLC model for Disney using there own in house project. With the result was Disney Infinity which would allow gamers of young and old to collect fan favourite characters inside the game ecosystem.

Speaking to Producer John Day of Avalanche Software, Disney Infinity has been in development for 3 and a half years, it also uses part of the engine for Cars 2 and Toy Story 3 for the game so really the game engine is really like 6/7 years in development.

I asked the question if the game was going to be coming to the PS4 and Xbox One, the Producer John Day said the franchise will “inevitably, eventually” come to next-generation platforms, just no dates for now.

Infinity is a product we see having a long life span, it’ll be developed for years to come. I don’t have specific details or plans about that, but it seems inevitable that we’ll have to cross that bridge.”

John Day added that toys and toy readers released now will be compatible with future consoles. “We’ve invested a lot of time and technology into future proofing all the stuff we’ve got,” he said. “We’re going to be using the same reader, the same near field communications tech moving forward.

The basic package that includes  Jack Sparrow(Pirates of the Caribbean), Mr. Incredible (The Incredibles), and James P. Sullivan (Monsters, Inc.), gamers can collect further sets (such as Cars: Lightning McQueen, Tow Mater, Holley Shiftwell, Francesco Bernoulli) or single figures ( Dash The Incredibles ) – with standalone pricing starting at $11.99/£14.99 a piece.

With Disney they can pull from a near endless backlog of iconic properties for Disney Infinity DLC / toy revenue. The interaction between the physical toy and in-game content will undoubtedly make this title a success with younger players. But what does Disney Infinity have to offer older gamers? The answer is surprisingly, while the initial Disney Infinity package is likely to be underwhelming for most hardcore gamers, the game it self design leaves the door open for plenty of fun down the line. But will Disney bring in Marvel and Star Wars Characters at a later date after the launch we have to wait and see.

We had a chance to play the Toy Box mode last week in London, the developer Avalanche software detailed new gameplay modes and providing insight into how the developers intends to evolve the toy box /game mash-up through additional features and content down the line.

Each of the Disney characters comes loaded with their own character specific adventure and the various themed starter packs (Pirates of the Caribbean,  Cars, Monsters University, The Lone Ranger) will include a story based missions for players to enjoy. But compared to other campaign experiences, the story content is very limited and will not be much of a draw for older gamers. The standalone adventures is not the main primary focus of Disney Infinity, which features a fully customizable sandbox mode with the ability to create game experiences within the game (ie. LittleBigPlanet).

The Toy Box mode (which I really liked) is an open world environment populated by stock items (tree, mountains, and buildings, among hundreds of others) along with themed pick-ups that are unlocked via individual figurines or collector sets. In addition to populating the open world with items, there are options for automatic enemy spawns, as well as the ability to collaboratively build gaming experiences with up to three other players (i.e Minecraft) – across an online connection or on a single console. With over a 1000 plus stock items you can use from unlocking the first wave of figures and play sets, this first wave of items will keep most people busy for a long while.

After your friends come together to create a Super Mario Bros like platformer or a Mario Kart style race track inside Disney Infinity, their design is uploaded to the Disney cloud server, and is then playable or ready for further edits if you like across multiple platforms. Meaning, two friends could help you on the Xbox 360 to design a level, then download the creation on their respective console of choice (Xbox 360, Wii U, or PS3) later on.

Also Avalanche Software has included a number of ridiculous weapons and other abilities that can affect anything in the open world: including enemies, mounts, or even other players. As a result, there’s a lot opportunity for hijinks and fun meta-game experiences – which can further be blown-out with the addition of game altering Power Discs. Like the figurines, the Power Discs exist inside and outside of the game, flat plastic coins that each include an in-game asset, such as a rideable Dumbo, or combat buff like increased damage or health.

Disney have given the Disney Infinity players a very robust set of design tools to make any level you can think.
