Final Thoughts

There are different sizes of velo 2 bag from STM, for this review we had the medium, which can fit most 15” screens, and in my case that was an Apple MacBook Pro 15”. It also comes in Black, Blue and Grey – and for this review we chose the Grey one.

There are multiple pockets in the bag, for everything from pens, to USB drives, to paperwork and chargers. There are even side pockets you can use to put water bottles in if you so wish.

The bag is very well made and is incredibly light weight. There is nothing worse that having a bag that already weighs a fair bit before you even put anything in it! Now to be fair, because of the size of the bag, you are not likely to be carrying lots of things around in it, but for most everyday tasks this will suit you perfectly.

Adjusting the shoulder strap was simple and felt comfortable (it has some padding to help there), even after several hours of carrying it around – there is even a waist strap you can use, but I never felt the need to use it.

I really liked that the section of bag designed to carry my laptop could be opened and accessed without opening the whole bag – this made it easier when travelling through the airport on a recent trip.

The bag offers a lot of protection, and I felt that my MacBook Pro, and the other items I was carrying were very well protected. I even had the occasional knock and everything was fine.

The velo 2 laptop shoulder bag in medium retails for around $100.

If you are looking for a stylish, light weight shoulder bag that protects your stuff just as it deserves to be protected then you definitely take a long look at the velo 2 laptop shoulder bag from STM. Also take a look at other STM bags as they are all great!

Boeing and FlightAware Team Up to Map B787’s Across The Globe

Boeing and FlightAware have teamed up to provide you the ability to track Boeing 787 Dreamliners wherever they are across the globe.  Read on for details!

Boeing and FlightAware have teamed up to provide you the ability to track Boeing 787 Dreamliners wherever they are across the globe.  FlightAware, a leading application and website for tracking aircraft position across the globe in close to real time, has teamed up with Boeing to power http://flighttracker.newairplane.com/, which shows all Boeing 787 Dreamliners currently aloft across the globe and maps their position and flight plan using Google Earth.  For example, United UAL125 from to London, UK to Houston is aloft as I write this…I logged into the website, chose the flight from the list and clicked on View in Google Earth.  This is what pops up:

image

How cool is that?  You can zoom in, see the view from the passenger’s point of view and otherwise track B787 Dreamliners while in flight.

Here is every B787 currently airborne as I write this:

image

As an aside, FlightAware is a great tool for managing travel.  You see, in the US, airlines file delays with the FAA before announcing them in the terminal; FlightAware on your iOS or Android device keeps you posted before other passengers.  In addition, it is really handy to see current information if you are meeting a plane; the FAA provides data with a delay of about 15 minutes in practice that FlightAware leverages.  Other agencies across the globe provide data as well, making it possible to track aircraft while in flight.  This tool is aimed at B787’s, and that is a really handy application of FlightAware’s toolset.  Check it out today, and if you travel, download FlightAware and give it a spin!

PS3 Firmware Fix (V4.45) Next Week

0
Sony has revealed that it’ll release a fix for the broken PS3 firmware (4.45) next week.
Some users had experienced problems when installing the firmware, although Sony told Videogamer that it has ‘identified the problem’ and will issue a firmware to fix this soon.
bmUploads_2013-02-13_1363_Playstation-PS3-Lifestyle-Blue-2.jpg
According to Sony only “a small number of PS3 systems” have been affected by the problem, so don’t worry too much if you’ve installed it recently and if you haven’t then it’s probably best to wait until next week just to be on the safe side.

Lights Out Adds Support for Windows 7 and Windows 8

The popular Lights Out WHS add-in, written by WHS MVP Martin Rothschink, has been updated, adding support for Windows 7 and Windows 8 machines.  Read on for details.

LightsOutW78_640

The popular Lights Out WHS add-in, written by WHS MVP Martin Rothschink, has been updated, adding support for Windows 7 and Windows 8 machines.  Here is what Lights-Out can do for you:

Lights-Out enhances a Windows Server Solution in these areas:

  • Power management: run your server on demand
  • Client backup: run a scheduled backup and use Wake-On-Lan
  • Uptime chart: displayes a graphical overview of device activity in your network
  • Client management: Wake, save energy or reboot your client computers
  • Includes Mac OS X Support!

Here are the release notes from the Windows 7/8 version:

Current Version 1.5.4 Build 2055

Lights-Out for Windows 7 or 8 as “Home Server” and Standard Windows Server

Differences between Lights-Out on WHS and Windows 7/8

  • There is no WHS Connector and therefore no working communication infrastructure on Windows 8
  • Lights-Out uses a special (TCP/IP based) communication protocol on port 7679
  • Port 7679 is opened during installation on the Windows 7/8 “Server”, if you use another personal firewall you have to open port 7679 by yourself
  • Client computers are joined during setup to their server, server discovery is handled by sending a multicast on port 7679
  • There is no pre-configured SSL infrastructure on Windows 7/8
  • There is no client backup handled by the server
  • There is no WHS Console on the client

Known issues:

  • No backup support for clients
  • Mac and Mobile support only in LAN (local), not in WAN because SSL infrastructure is missing

If you are looking to control your servers or Windows 7/8 machines to save on your power bill, then give Lights Out a look.
