Exclusive Lords of the Fallen Interview with Jan Klose at E3

One of the surprise hits of E3 was Lords of the Fallen from CI Games and Deck 13, and I spoke with the Creative Director, Jan Klose about it.

In an unforgiving world where no sin is ever forgotten an army of the long-ago defeated god attacks the human realm. You are Harkyn, a convicted criminal who is given a chance at redemption. Released from prison, Harkyn and his mentor, Kaslo, set out on a mission to stop the war.

In his journey, Harkyn will forge strong alliances and face even stronger enemies. He will learn the true power of the Rhogar Lords – commanders of god’s army. He will even bring the battle to the Rhogar, travelling to the heart of the demonic dimension.

Will the god manage to enslave humans again? Is mankind really able to banish evil? Will Harkyn’s sins ever be forgiven?

Jan is the Creative Director at Deck 13 in Frankfurt, Germany, supervising all processes and helping shape the creative and artistic vision of the game. He also maintains and supports the key publisher-developer communication.

The last 13 years of his 18-year career in the games industry have been spent at Deck 13. Some of the titles he worked on include Venetica, Blood Knights, Tiger and Chicken, Exodus and series such as Jack Keane and Ankh. Jan is a jury member of the German Developer Award.

Elite: Dangerous Premium Beta 2 Released

Frontier Developments today released Elite: Dangerous Premium Beta 2.

The Premium Beta phase of development of Frontier’s epic multiplayer space game Elite: Dangerous continues with Premium Beta 2. There are significant improvements in many different areas, with major highlights being:

· Three new star systems are available to explore and trade within, Aulin, LHS 3006 and Styx.
· Giant Orbis class starports have been added, which are complex 8km diameter structures, larger and more luxurious than Coriolis star ports.
· A new space ship type, the Hauler, is the first flyable Zorgon Peterson ship to be added. It’s an entry-level trading ship, to follow on from the Sidewinder. It has four times the cargo capacity of the Eagle, the entry-level combat ship,
· Additional language support has been added, with German as the first such language to be added to English.
· A high resolution screen capture facility has been added (capturing at four times the current screen resolution)
· Improved functionality in the installer, giving incremental updates going forwards.
· Improved performance.

“Feedback from Premium Beta 1 has been really helpful. We are continuing to refine endless details in addition to the ‘headline’ changes, and so Premium Beta 2 is another great step towards Beta.” said Frontier’s CEO David Braben.

At E3 I got to talk to the executive producer of The Division.

Metro Redux Release Date Confirmed

Deep Silver today confirms that Metro Redux will hit stores on the 26th August in the US, and the 29th August in Europe.The boxed copy of Metro Redux contains remastered versions of both Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light, with all previously released add-on content.

The Xbox One, PS4 and PC rerelease of 4A Games’ acclaimed post-apocalyptic shooter series will run at 1080p on PS4 and 900p on Xbox One at 60 frames per second.

Deep Silver previously said Metro Redux is not just a 1080p port of the original games, and is instead a “true director’s cut” that re-engineers both Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light for modern hardware.

Both campaigns can be tackled in ‘Spartan’ or ‘Survival’ play styles, and the legendary Ranger Mode is also included in both games. Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux are also available separately as digital download only.

Company of Heroes 2: The Western Front Armies Out Now

Today announced that Company of Heroes 2: The Western Front Armies that is developed by Relic Entertainment and is now out Windows PC. Company of Heroes 2: The Western Front Armies brings players back to the Western Front first introduced in the award-winning Company of Heroes. The Western Front Armies introduces two unique collections of new content – the US Forces and the German Oberkommando West.

Each individual army will also be available as a standalone purchase via digital download, providing new players with a minimal entry point into the massive Company of Heroes 2 multiplayer community, regardless of which content they own. All Company of Heroes 2 players can then battle across 31 maps (along with more than 1000 community maps available on Steam Workshop) in auto-match multiplayer.

The addition of US Forces has been the most requested army since Company of Heroes 2 first launched, by a large margin. Each new army has distinctive tactical gameplay options, new infantry, team weapons, vehicles, abilities and upgrades on a total of eight seasonal multiplayer maps set on the Western Front. They have been carefully balanced to ensure optimal game play with previously released armies.

Trials Fusion Skins Coming to Minecraft for Xbox 360

Ubisoft has announced a partnership with Microsoft to integrate Trials Fusion into Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition. The upcoming Skin Pack 6 for Minecraft will include two new skins inspired by Trials Fusion.

Sniper Elite 3 to get massive day one patch

Out this week is Sniper Elite 3 will launch with a 10GB day-one patch on Xbox One, it has been confirmed. The sizeable day one patch will be used to make a variety of improvements and reduce the install size from 21GB to 19GB, Rebellion has told Eurogamer.

It will also be used to sync data between retail discs and future multiplayer DLC.

“The main part of the update is to sync data between the game’s retail discs and the Xbox Live digital download edition of the game,” a Rebellion spokesperson explained.

“In the several weeks between sending the code off to manufacture and release, rather than sit around or take a break, we’ve continued to work on the game, making improvements and optimisations.

“We’ve also begun work on multiplayer DLC and a small part of this update is to introduce a compatibility pack.

“This is standard for any game that adds DLC – it’s just to make sure everyone can have the same multiplayer experience whether they own DLC or not.”

“It’s part of this ongoing optimisation process that’s enabled Sniper Elite 3 to perform well at a native 1080p on both Xbox One and PS4,” the spokesperson continued.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience and we firmly believe Sniper Elite 3 will be worth the wait!”

Sniper Elite 3 will make its European debut on 27th June for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3 and PC. It will launch in North America on 1st July.
