Final Thoughts

We all need a screen protector for our phones – whether its because you want to stop it from being scratched, or you just want to keep in clean. ZAGG have been making screen protectors for years and I have used several of them in the past.

Fitting was very simple, you just follow the few simple instructions and within a few moments the protector is applied and that’s it.

Whilst ZAGG claim “make application bubble free”, I still had a few tiny bubbles, but those were soon smoothed out, so I was happy.

Overall I am very happy with the InvisibleShield Glass + Screen Protector, and can recommend it if you want to protector your iPhone from dust, scratches and fingerprints.

The ZAGG InvisibleShield Glass + Screen Protector retails for £24.99. This may seem very expensive for a screen protector, especially when a quick search on Amazon can find you a pack of two screen protectors for under £5, but you get what you pay for.

Meet the new Star Wars Battle Quads from Propel

A few days ago we was invited for the worldwide announcement from “Propel” for Star Wars Battle Quads the first look. The first thing that strikes you is the amount of detail that these things have on each of the Star Wars Battle Quads.

The Star Wars drones models available will including a T-65 X-Wing fighter, Darth Vader’s Tie Advanced X1, and a speeder bike from Return of the Jedi complete with miniature trooper.

Each model is hand-painted and numbered, and comes in a wax-sealed gift box that lights up and plays Star Wars music specific to the film the vehicle in question appeared in.

probably the coolest feature for most people is that you can use these drones to battle with your mates. As well as flying to speeds above 35Mph in less than three seconds, a unique flight control algorithm also enables special manoeuvres that mimic Star Wars flight patterns, such as forward moving corkscrew rolls.

Master Luke says we are going to be upgrade with the new Star Wars Battle Quads

Get hit three times by your opponent and your quadcopter will automatically make a controlled emergency landing. However, the plan is you will be able to brush up on your piloting skills so you can improve your battling skills once the companion app is launched,

Star Wars Battle Quads will be release just before Christmas (1st December) will be very restricted released, you will have to battle it out for a limited number of special edition drones on sale for around £230.

Available at Maplin, Currys, Argos, Disney Store, John Lewis and Hamleys, they can be pre-ordered in time for the festive season.

So are “These the Droids You’re Looking for”, for one I would say so, for one I can’t wait to get my hands on a review unit in the future.

Captain Kaon 1980’s inspired retro twin stick shoot out now on steam

Captain Kaon, is a retro twin-stick gravity shooter inspired by seminal Spectrum and Amiga games, launches for PC on Steam Early Access now priced at ($6.99 / €6.99 / £4.99).mm_114612_126

A salute to such 1980s classics as Thrust and Gravitar, Captain Kaon brings the vector graphics of old right ‘up-to-date’ with vibrant Amiga-style pixel art and a tight twin-stick control mechanic. As a much-loved but long neglected genre, gravity shooters have found their modern champion in indie developer James Buckle. He played the pants off these games as a child and is launching on Steam Early Access today to gather valuable community feedback and ensure that Captain Kaon is the perfect celebration of the genre.

“I got an old second hand ZX Spectrum when I was a kid, which was when I first learned to code and make games”, said James Buckle, founder and developer at Engage Pixel. “One of my favourites was Thrust; I loved having to manoeuvre your ship through the caves and pick off the bad guys. It was a style of game I adored which you just don’t see anymore and I realised there is a whole generation who hasn’t played these exceptional games. Captain Kaon takes the best bits from this classic genre and brings them into the 21st century”.

What is Captain Kaon?

Developed by UK-based Engage Pixel, Captain Kaon is a 1980s Thrust and Gravitar inspired twin-stick gravity shooter. Here are some of the key features:

  • Battle enemies with twin-stick or 360° mouse aim
  • Explore vibrant Amiga-style pixel art environments
  • Manage resources and carefully select missions in Campaign Mode

  • Available now on Steam Early Access
  • Full launch on PC in 2017

Story of Captain Kaon

The overcrowded Earth has found a new home amongst the stars – a clutch of habitable worlds in the Regulus sector. But peace in this new paradise is short-lived as a strange alien force begins a relentless assault on the colonies. This threat to human expansion cannot go unchallenged.

In response the Earth sends the finest ships in the Interstellar Navy to defend the colonists and protect its interests. Left behind are the old and out-of-date, led by the flagship Argus, a small fleet of relics to defend humanity’s homeworld.

Hotheaded and insubordinate, Captain ‘Kaon’ Talia faces a court martial as war breaks out in the Regulus sector. Hoping combat offers the chance for salvation, she instead finds herself left behind. With the Argus operating on a skeleton crew, she is assigned as its sole gunship pilot.

In the midst of this uncertainty the miners of Ceres revolt against Earth rule, refusing to supply the fleet with the deuterium fuel it sorely needs. Without it the fleet in Regulus will be unable to fight and Earth will become increasingly vulnerable. Only Captain Kaon can fly her gunship through the twisting tunnels beneath Ceres surface and fight the revolt.

To celebrate the release of merican Dad Season 11 on DVD, we have three copies to give away.

american-dad-volume-11-dvd-sleeve-2d-packshot

America’s favourite CIA Agent and his unconventional family are back! The uncensored, unashamed and unforgivably rebellious US show American Dad Volume 11 comes to DVD on 21 November 2016 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

Packed with celebrity guest voices including Kim Kardashian and Jane Krakowski, this wildly hilarious season follows super-patriotic CIA agent Stan Smith and his eccentric family on their misadventures in Langley Falls, Virginia.

Stan’s blissfully unaware wife, Francine, has an unfaltering loyalty that allows her to turn a blind eye toward Stan’s unabashed arrogance. Meanwhile, Stan constantly butts heads with his 18-year-old, left-wing activist daughter Hayley who knows just how to push her father’s buttons, whether it’s by helping the homeless, demanding women’s rights or advocating gun control. Hayley’s 14-year-old brother is the geeky-yet-confident Steve, a kid who spends his time playing video games and obsessing about the opposite sex.

The Smith cabinet is rounded out by two rather unconventional members: Roger, the sassy, sarcastic and routinely inappropriate space alien who is constantly trying on new disguises and, with them, new personalities, and Klaus, the attention-starved goldfish with the brain of a German Olympic skier who always throws in his two cents, regardless of whether anyone is listening.

How to enter to win

We have three copies of American Dad Season 11 to giveaway on DVD.

All you have to do to be in with a chance of winning is to enter below:

Review: Ride 2

If you feel as though you’ve mastered every aspect of last year’s ‘Ride’, then you’ll have no doubt been looking forward to its sequel, the aptly named, ‘Ride 2’. The hardcore racing sim developed by Milestone S.r.l ,is aimed at those who’ve always turned an envious shade of green at Gran Turismo’s overabundance of wheels.

Describing Ride 2 as the two wheeled Gran Turismo goes a lot further than you think too. Featuring a truly impressive roster of bikes, inevitably including different engine sizes and disciplines, as well as many true to life tracks, Ride 2’s off to a scorching start. You can also upgrade the performance of your owned bikes in a variety of ways too, suspension settings can be tweaked, new tires purchased and even acquiring new performance parts such as air filters can be bought with your winnings too.

2016-06-27_102132 copy
If you’re anything like me, your time in the lead won’t last forever

Bikes are generally categorised into classes using the performance points system that Forza pioneered all those years ago. The majority of races in the games career will also have entry requirements too. Generally they’re in the realm of only being able to enter with a bike’s performance levels being up to a set level, or restrictions on the bike’s engine sizes. Later on this doesn’t pose much of an issue; however it does make things a little tricksome at the start with what you can do and what you can enter.

If you are struggling for cash at any point in the career however, fortunately you can earn money throughout the game’s other modes. Quick races and online play will all earn you some much needed cash, perfect for either cosmetic or performance enhancements on your favourite bike. Either that, or you could always put it towards one of the 200 or so bikes on offer. Whilst the tantalising promise of newer and better upgrades isn’t an entirely original premise, it’s a proven formula, and anyone into their bikes will relish the collecting opportunity.

What’s a racing sim, especially one which prides itself on authenticity, without a solid handling model? Luckily we don’t have to find out, as Milestone S.r.l, famed for their history and experience with everything two-wheeled, have nailed the strong variances between bikes. Lesser powered, smaller rides feel darty and nip around corners, whereas the heavier, vastly more powerful superbikes need to be treated with much more attention. Missing the turn-in point will all but guarantee some dramatic understeer and you’ll be more likely to end up kissing the gravel than the apex.

Screen_07_ copy
Weather effects spruce up the environments

Speaking of track day difficulties, those who’ve rarely, or even never, played a bike racing sim before, will be in for quite the troublesome times for the first hour or two. Thankfully, there’re plenty of difficulty options available. Again, much like Forza, you can tailor the difficulty in exchange for more, post-race, rewards. Even after altering both riding assists and the AI difficulty, sometimes a race just isn’t going your way; thankfully, Ride 2 has you covered with its ‘rewind’ feature. Letting you get away with murder as many times as you wish, it can feel a little on the cheap side, especially when you could quite feasibly use it on every corner. Having said that, even with the AI difficulty on its tamest setting, I have more than often encountered a struggle through the pack. This is not an easy game. Apparently my extensive experience with car racing games in the past has done me no favours here!

Once you’ve gotten the hang of posturing, and how to manipulate the front and rear brakes independently (or just turned on some more assists) it’s to pick your discipline. On top of the standard races, there’re also Time Trials, Perfect Trajectories and Pair Racing. Whilst Pair Racing and Time Trials are both fairly self-explanatory; and a decent enough distraction, it’s the Perfect Trajectory races where most of the fun’s at. You’ll race as quickly as possible across a section of track through a reasonably narrow set of cones; of course suffering a nasty time penalty if/when you career through them. It’s incredibly tricky, but if you can nail it, ultimately satisfying.

2016-08-19_122124_copy#1
The bike details and customisation are some of the high points

Visually it’s a little of a mixed bag, each and every bike looks incredible with a great attention to detail, especially considering the hundreds cosmetic changes you can make. In fact the level of customisation in general is fantastic. Not only can you deck out both your rider and bike with an untold amount of options, you can even decide in what style you’d like your rider to hang onto the bike around corners; I love this attention to detail. The environments are sadly the other side of the coin however. They don’t look bad by any means, just noticeably worse than the bikes. To be fair however; if I had to choose, I’d certainly place the emphasis on the bikes too.

Ride 2’s a fantastic racing simulator; everything works pretty much exactly as you’d expect, it’s just a tad on the clinical side. There’s no real, heart pounding excitement or adrenaline fuelled duels with the AI, they’re often too perfect a racer themselves; unfortunately this just adds to the game’s already niche market. For fans, then I can see this being a true, if slightly sterile joy. For car racing fans, it’s a little too different to instantly jump in and succeed. And most unfortunately, for everyone else, it’ll just be a little too niche.
