Star Wars: Forces of Destiny mini animated shorts coming soon

Disney and Lucasfilm have today announced ahead of the ‘Star Wars Celebration’ convention opening in Orlando Star Wars: Forces of Destiny, a new initiative celebrating the inspiring stories of iconic heroes from across the Star Wars universe.

An original series of animated shorts (each 2-3 minutes in length) will explore exciting, all new adventures of key characters including Rey, Jyn Erso, Sabine Wren, Princess Leia, Ahsoka Tano and others, ahead of books and a TV special later in the year.

The stories will also be supported by a line of toys from Hasbro, including new ‘Adventure Figures’ – a fusion between traditional dolls and action figures.

Key points of interest:

  • Micro-series of original, animated shorts will focus on untold stories of everyday heroism that shape the destinies of Rey, Jyn Erso, Princess Leia, Sabine Wren, Ahsoka Tano and others
  • Daisy Ridley, Felicity Jones, Tiya Sircar, Ashley Eckstein and Lupita Nyong’o reprise their roles for new series launching in July

Today it was announced that a free Prey demo will be available on Thursday, 27th April for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The demo will allow fans to board Talos I and play the opening hour before the worldwide launch of the game on 5th May.

The Prey Demo: Opening Hour puts you in the role of Morgan Yu, lead scientist aboard Talos I, working on a scientific breakthrough meant to alter humanity forever. What starts off as an exciting first day of work very quickly takes a dark turn. You find yourself alone on board Talos I, a lavish but abandoned interstellar research facility. Aliens have overrun the station and are hunting down any surviving crew members, including you. Should these creatures reach Earth, life as you know it will end. It’s up to you to uncover the mysteries of Talos I, fight the alien invasion and save humanity.

Plus, be sure to keep an eye out tomorrow for preview stories around the globe revealing additional game details and showcasing new content.

Infinity Ward and Activision have released a brand new multiplayer trailer and screenshots for Continuum, the second DLC map pack for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

The four maps are:

  • Turista – A plush spa and resort, Turista is nestled in the middle of a giant skeleton of an ancient creature. With sniper spots scattered across a majestic, central waterfall, Turista also boasts tight interiors for fans of close-quartered combat and a three-lane design that caters to a variety of play styles
  • Scrap – Set in an abandoned junkyard on the Moon, Scrap features a combination of extended sightlines and tactical pathways that reward players who engage in both long and short range combat
  • Archive – Fast, frenetic engagements set the pace in Archive, a post-futurist art gallery where tight engagements contrast with open exterior battlegrounds in this wide three-lane style map
  • Excess – Perched atop a gilded penthouse in a sprawling future metropolis, Excess is a small, circular map re-imagined from the classic Modern Warfare 2 map, Rust, that retains the intense, fast-paced combat from the original

The 2-minute video shows off the varied gameplay styles that suit each map and the screenshots show off the combat of the multiplayer maps and the new zombies experience “Shaolin Shuffle.”

TVPlayer is now official on both Xbox One and Xbox S, the service will be the first aggregated TV offering on Xbox. The platform will enable users to access the free package on Xbox, however, they can upgrade for just £5.99 a month (no contract!) to TVPlayer Plus and access a further 25+ premium channels including Discovery Channel, TLC, Eurosport 1 and History.

Xbox users, with an Xbox One or an Xbox One S, who wish to download TVPlayer simply go to the app store and download the app for free in order to start enjoying the content. TVPlayer is the first TV viewing app available to Xbox gamers in the UK with 100+ broadcast channels.

Since being founded in 2014, TVPlayer can boast over 1 million active users and over 3 million app downloads in the UK. The TV viewing platform is already available across a range of devices, including desktop, iOS, Android, Windows 10, Amazon Fire Stick, Apple TV and Samsung TV.

“The LEGO Batman Movie,” arrives onto 4K Ultra HD, 3D, Blu-ray, DVD and VOD on 19th June and Digital Download – on 30th May. The film features Will Arnett who reprises his starring role from “The LEGO Movie,” as the voice of LEGO Batman, aka Bruce Wayne.   The film also features Zach Galifianakis (the “Hangover” films, “Muppets Most Wanted”) starring as The Joker; Michael Cera (TV’s “Arrested Development”) as the orphan Dick Grayson; Rosario Dawson (TV’s “Daredevil”) as Barbara Gordon; and Ralph Fiennes (the “Harry Potter” films) as Alfred.

In the irreverent spirit of fun that made “The LEGO Movie” a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble—LEGO Batman—stars in his own big-screen adventure. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment today released a new Injustice 2 trailer outlining the Gear System that brings a new level of depth to the game, allowing players to evolve their play style and achieve their goals. Gear will open up vast possibilities for personalisation by enabling combatants of all levels to build and power up the ultimate version of their favourite DC characters to fit their fighting style.

Developed by NetherRealm Studios, Injustice 2 features a massive roster of DC Super Heroes and Super-Villains and allows players to build and power up the ultimate version of their favourite DC characters.

The game will be available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the UK on the 19th of May 2017.

Today Microsoft has announced a new platform for Minecraft – the Minecraft Marketplace! Arriving with the 1.1 Discovery Update this Spring, Minecraft Marketplace is a new program that will give players on our Bedrock Engine platforms (mobile and Windows 10 PC) the opportunity to browse, download and play cool community creations from within the game itself. You can uncover all kinds of amazing new content in the Discovery Update.

The idea is to give mobile and Windows 10 players access to a growing catalogue of fun stuff, curated and supplied by us – the Minecraft team – safely and simply, while giving Minecraft creators another way to make a living from the game, allowing them to support themselves in the creation of future projects.

At launch, Minecraft will have a catalogue of amazing adventure maps, texture packs, mini games and more, created by well-known community creators like BlockWorks, Noxcrew and Qwertyuiop The Pie, among others. This is just the start will a few existing partners to get the program running, and Minecraft will be opening up submissions to anyone with a registered business later on down the line.

To make all of this happen, Microsoft is introducing Minecraft Coins, which players can buy using in-app purchases with real currency on their device. We know that Minecraft players often play Minecraft on multiple devices, so we are working toward making content players buy available on multiple devices as well, enabled by a free Xbox Live account.

The Minecraft Marketplace will release with the 1.1 Discovery Update for Bedrock Engine platforms this spring!

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has today announced the shortlist of nominated moments for this year’s Virgin TV’s Must-See Moment, the only award voted for by the British public at the upcoming Virgin TV British Academy Television Awards, taking place on Sunday 14th May at the Royal Festival Hall in London.

The nominated moments are:

  • Game of Thrones: Battle of the Bastards
  • The Late Late Show: Carpool Karaoke Michelle Obama
  • Line of Duty: Urgent Exit Required
  • Planet Earth II: Snakes vs Iguana Chase
  • Strictly Come Dancing: Ed Balls’ Gangnam Style
  • Who Do You Think You Are: Danny Dyer’s Origins

The Virgin TV’s Must-See Moment rewards the TV highlights that had the nation gripped last year: the dramatic scenes, the cliffhangers, the laugh-out-loud and the edge-of-your-seat action. A panel of leading media and entertainment journalists collated the shortlist, which this year champions everything from British drama and global entertainment showstoppers to nature documentaries and factual history programmes.

From Tuesday 11th April (08.00) until Wednesday 10th May (17.00) members of the public will have the opportunity to vote for the Virgin TV’s Must-See Moment at www.virginmedia.com/bafta. Early voters will also enter a prize draw to win tickets to attend the event.

For the first time TV fans can also vote through their television sets- Virgin TV customers can vote through the app on the TiVo platform. Voting via TiVo closes on Thursday 4th May at 23:59.
