Game streaming platforms and sponsorships

Review: DisplayPort 1.4 to 8K HDMI cable

Connecting your laptop or PC to an HDMI display has never been easier. Thanks to Monoprice and its phenomenal products, you can easily find a solution that works for you. Whether it is a simple cable or a fantastic 8K splitter or switch, they have you covered. However, today I’m specifically looking at DP to HMDI connections. This wonderful DisplayPort 1.4 to 8K HDMI cable is a game changer if you wish to expand your viewing capabilities. What’s more, it delivers crisp visuals and amazing digital audio.

Who’d have thought I could get so excited about a cable? Well, this simple accessory is the difference between an okay and an awesome gaming/movie experience. Furthermore, it is versatile as it’ll connect your console, PC, laptop, or Apple TV to any HDMI display. On top of this, it’ll cope with up to 8K visuals at a whooping 60Hz. Alternatively, if you are still using 4K, you’ll enjoy up to 120Hz. As such, this is the perfect tool if you are a content creator, streamer, or just a gaming and movie enthusiast.

What’s in the box of the DisplayPort 1.4 to 8K HDMI cable?

  • Monoprice is renowned for its stripped-back packaging. By keeping things simple, they help to reduce the cost and make things more environmentally friendly. As such, this cable is delivered in a clear plastic bag. Accordingly, there is little waste, but sadly it cannot be recycled. Therefore, there is room for improvement.
  • The DisplayPort 1.4 to 8K HDMI cable is available in 3 sizes. I opted for the 10ft version, but you can select 6 or 3ft alternatives. The robust cable has a black and rubberised finish. Furthermore, the HDMI and DP jacks are sturdy and have a silver-plated finish.

Technical aspects.

You may have the greatest setup known to mankind. However, if you have one weak link, the whole thing fails. Many people underestimate how important a great cable is. Thankfully, the DisplayPort 1.4 to 8K HDMI cable delivers exceptional visual and audio without breaking the bank. Not only does it support a high-level resolution, but the flawless audio pass-thru delivers uncompressed digital 7.1, 5.1 or 2 channels.

The maximum data transfer of up to 32.4 Gbps ensures that you get crystal clear visuals no matter which resolution you choose. Accordingly, if you have a high-spec monitor or a decent projector, you’ll enjoy perfect visuals and equally good audio. Therefore, this is the perfect accessory if you need to mirror your device or you wish to show off your skills to a large audience.

Is the DisplayPort 1.4 to 8K HDMI cable worth it?

I’ve tried and tested some poor cables in my time! These cheap accessories were flimsy, poorly built and ill-fitting. Fortunately, the DisplayPort 1.4 to 8K HDMI cable is different. The excellent DP and HDMI ports are strong, well-built, and will securely fit any device. On top of this, the 10ft rubberised cable is a good size for most setups. Yet, if this is too long, Monoprice offers 2 alternatives that will fit the bill.

Build quality aside, the technical performance of this cable was something else. Whether you plugged it directly into your source, or you used a switch like the Blackbird 8K60 2×1 Switch, it mattered not. Both options delivered crisp audio and mind-blowing visuals. Moreover, the excellent data transfer rates ensure that this cable always performs perfectly. Alongside this, Monoprice is so confident in its product that they offer a lifetime warranty. Accordingly, if you want the best gaming, movie, or streaming experience, I recommend that you buy this cable here!

The DisplayPort 1.4 to 8K HDMI cable has been awarded the Movies Games and Tech gold award.

Review: Terminal Velocity: Boosted Edition

Terminal Velocity: Boosted Edition proves that retro gaming is as popular as ever. This low-poly affair doesn’t push modern consoles, but it will make you feel nostalgic. Furthermore, the basic gameplay and fast action will make you smile throughout.

Developed by Terminal Reality and published by Ziggurat Interactive, Inc., this is a sci-fi adventure title. What’s more, you must battle hordes of alien beings as you fly your all-powerful spaceship. On top of this, the vast planets and brutal foes are wonderful to explore and entertaining to shoot down. As such, though this is as old as the hills, I couldn’t help but love every minute.

A fireball rips through the sky.
Kaboom!

Terminal Velocity: Boosted Edition tells a gripping tale.

This game may look aged and haggard, but its story is relevant and enthralling! Consequently, the hard-hitting plot catches your attention from the off. Like all great sci-fi experiences, this one has a strong protagonist. This hero must put themselves on the line to save humanity from an alien threat.

It is the far future and an armada of alien vessels surrounds Earth! For reasons unknown, these aliens have waged war on humanity. However, a brave fighter pilot will show them that we are not to be messed with. Though he is outpaced, outmanoeuvred, and outgunned, the hero stops at nothing to thwart this threat.

Shoot down the aliens and collect the capsules.
Pick up the capsule and keep fighting.

So much going on.

Though the core concept is simple, the action is hectic as hell! The story takes place on 9 unique planets, each with a range of horrific aliens. You’ll face pacey fighters, armoured tanks, and a range of turrets, buildings, and undulating landscapes. Alongside this, you’ll navigate tight tunnels, engage in dogfights, and avoid never-ending projectiles. Subsequently, though it is straightforward, you must be alert throughout.

Alongside this, there is an arsenal of weapons to test, plenty of power-ups to pick up, and some horrendous bosses to take down. Accordingly, this is a hectic flight simulation experience that is testing, but enjoyable. Luckily, if you find the action too hard, you can adjust the difficulty settings. This was fantastic, as occasionally it can be tough to handle and this causes frustration.

Terminal Velocity: Boosted Edition: old game, new finish.

Thanks to the Infernal Engine, the original Terminal Velocity runs natively on modern consoles. However, there is an improved HUD and the draw distance is improved. As such, you can spot your enemies from further away and this helps during hectic dogfights. Other than this, the low-poly visuals are pretty horrific to look at. The blocky finish and garish colours work perfectly with the retro gameplay. However, they won’t be to everyone’s liking. I adored the trip down memory lane and older gamers will appreciate the old-school finish.

The audio perfectly represents the era. With synth music and obnoxious sound effects, it is uncomfortable to listen to. What’s more, the repetitive songs and upbeat tunes will drive you mad. Whether it is the loud crashes or the shrill lasers, it is wonderfully dated.

The tunnels are narrow and filled with aliens.
Explore the tunnels and complete each mission.

Simple controls.

I love how straightforward Terminal Velocity: Boosted Edition is to play. The excellent crosshair makes hunting your foes a piece of cake. Moreover, braking and accelerating were achieved at the push of a button. As such, you’ll become an ace pilot in no time at all. Yet navigating each tight tunnel was a tricky task. Therefore, you’ll crash, collide, and moan each time you miss the tunnel entrance.

Terminal Velocity: Boosted Edition was great in short bursts. However, its repetitive action outstays its welcome pretty quickly. Disappointingly, the simple and dated mechanics haven’t aged that well. As a consequence, you’ll enjoy this casually between other games.

Terminal Velocity: Boosted Edition is a pleasant trip down memory lane.

Older gamers will remember Terminal Velocity fondly. Therefore, Terminal Velocity: Boosted Edition is a pleasant trip down memory lane. Yet, its limited appeal and dated finish will only impress a niche audience. Subsequently, I don’t think it’ll get any major accolades or a big following. However, I enjoyed it and I recommend that you buy it here! Can you save humanity? Explore 9 vast planets and destroy everything that stands in your way.

Review: Truck Driver – Heading North DLC

Truck Driver – Heading North DLC is the much-anticipated add-on to SOEDESCO’s popular title Truck Driver. This bolt-on content enhances your experience whilst retaining much of the original charm. I covered it recently and scored it 7.5 out of 10. Consequently, I was excited about getting my teeth into the new content.

Developed and published by SOEDESCO, this is a driving simulation title. Moreover, there are plenty of custom options and a vast open world to explore. However, if you’ve played the original, none of this will be a surprise. Yet, if you are new to the franchise, this new map adds over 30 jobs and a stunning landscape to enjoy. What’s more, there are some new goods to haul and plenty of speed cameras to avoid.

Truck Driver – Heading North DLC has no story.

Unlike Truck Driver, Truck Driver – Heading North DLC has no story. Instead, you are instructed to take the ferry to explore a new location. Here, you’ll help the locals whilst impressing your Uncle Karl. Additionally, you’ll earn plenty of cash to pimp out your ride or buy a whole new vehicle. Whatever you wish to do, there is no pressure whatsoever. Accordingly, as long as you are rested and have fuel, you can drive to your heart’s content.

The new action takes place in the Nordic-inspired land of Mangefjell. This cold and isolated island has some interesting characters and stunning scenery. Furthermore, it is noticeably bigger than the original map. On top of this, it is more sparse and traversing it takes much longer. Therefore, you must keep on top of your stamina and fuel if you wish to succeed.

Head to the port and take on some new tasks.
Head to the port and help the people of Mangefjell!

A gentle simulation title.

Usually, the simulation genre is complicated and overbearing. Thankfully, Truck Driver – Heading North DLC is different. There is nothing else to worry about besides the basic character and vehicle stats. Alongside fuel and stamina, you’ll focus on damage and the speed of your truck. Other than this, there is little else to worry you. However, if you damage your vehicle, it impacts the steering, and this is a massive problem. Subsequently, you’ll want to drive safely or repair any defects ASAP.

Most of the missions comprise a basic gameplay loop. You’ll be requested to collect a trailer and deliver it to a set location. Alternatively, you may have to move several loads before you get paid. If you are successful, you’ll earn cash and XP. The experience points are used to increase bonuses or reduce bills. Furthermore, you can unlock driver-related skills to make money and unlock new trucks and equipment.

A massive world to explore.

The delivery element makes up the core of the gameplay. However, you are free to explore as you wish. This was one of my favourite parts of the game. Thanks to the relaxed approach, you don’t get chased by police and any misdemeanours are dealt with immediately. As such, the immersive nature of the action isn’t ruined.

Mangefjell is a stark and barren land that is wonderful to drive across. There’s lots to see and do with hidden areas and plenty of people to help out. As long as you don’t jump red lights, and you keep within the speed limits, you’ll have an amazing time without being fined unnecessarily.

Drive from the cab and enhance the realism.
Enhance the realism and drive from the cab.

Customising your vehicle.

Truck Driver impressed me with its custom options. Thankfully, Truck Driver – Heading North DLC retains all your unlocked goods while allowing you to buy more. Whether you change the livery or add additional parts, it’s up to you. You can select from purely cosmetic items or improve the attributes of each vehicle. Whatever you decide, you must remember that you don’t have unlimited funds.

One element I particularly enjoyed was the unlocking of new items. By driving a specific vehicle over a set distance, you earn cash and unlock new parts. This was great, as it kept you working with each truck to ensure they were fully upgraded. Alongside this, you are rewarded for driving safely and completing certain missions. Consequently, there are plenty of ways to improve your vehicles.

Truck Driver – Heading North DLC lacks polish.

Like the original, Truck Driver – Heading North DLC lacks polish. Unfortunately, there are some texture issues and the render distance isn’t great. Yet, it didn’t impact the gameplay, and the animation was smooth. Furthermore, I adored the rain effect and the variety of viewpoints at your disposal. Whether you want a view of the steering wheel or outside the vehicle, the choice is yours.

The audio made me smile. The heart-warming soundtrack is relaxed and folksy. Furthermore, the excellent sound effects add to the realism. You’ll wince as you hit a barrier, or swerve as your wheels touch the hard shoulder. My only disappointment was the lack of acting. The action would have been improved if the key characters were voiced.

Truck Driver - Heading North DLC looks fantastic. Head to the coast and look at the lighthouse.
The island is vast and beautiful.

Excellent controls but a tedious UI.

SOEDESCO has incorporated a brilliant shortcut system. Accordingly, you can activate your indicators, switch off the engine, or operate cruise control. However, the UI is tedious. If you wish to use the windscreen wipers or switch on the lights, it is unnecessarily clumsy. Luckily, though, you are free to map the controls as you wish. As such, many of these problems can be overcome.

Thanks to the custom options and the 30+ new jobs on offer, this has plenty of longevity. However, the gameplay can be repetitive if you are not a keen trucking enthusiast. Luckily, though, the vast world and hidden areas prevent the action from becoming monotonous.

Truck Driver – Heading North DLC is a great addition.

I loved the original, so this was an easy sell for me. Truck Driver – Heading North DLC adds some quality missions and a large and interesting map. Moreover, it retains its quality gameplay and excellent audio. Accordingly, I loved it and I recommend that you buy it here! Enhance your driving reputation and help the residents of Mangefjell.

Review: Humanity

I’ve not played too many puzzle games since I was completely absorbed in Tetris Effect back in 2018. I’ve always liked the old PS1 puzzle games, but could never quite find a more modern game that was that satisfying. Talos principle was okay, The Witness was fine, but nothing hit quite like Kurushi or Vib Ribbon.

Suffice to say, this did. Go buy it.

Follow Me

Your character has, by their own admission, awoken to find themselves transformed into a dog (a spectral Shiba-Inu to be precise), and you are tasked with corralling the mindless, Lemming-like masses of humanity and guiding them to salvation.

You get drip-fed your powers, but initially the goal is to select at which point on their path the humans should turn, jump, or long jump. It’s honestly surprising how much this initial concept branches out, as later on you can have them follow the sound of your barks or stop on a dime in order to navigate some of the trickier levels.

The level variety here is pretty astounding, and that gradual build up of puzzle game competency even more so. You yourself will go from the feeling of frantic concern befitting a new parent to an incalculable number of children, to the hardened demeanor of a general as you organize your legions to take on a level comparable to a military siege, or one of the game’s bosses.

Yes, there are bosses. Yes, I was surprised too. Yes, they are excellent.

How to Keep it Fresh

The variety in what they decide to throw at you across the game’s 7 worlds obviously keeps it fresh, but the actual puzzles themselves are kept fresh by the inclusion of the game’s collectibles: Goldys. If you’ve spotted those golden figures in the previous screenshots, there they are.

There are one to several Goldys per level, and these act as both the game’s collectibles as well as the level gating for other worlds. A certain number of these have to be collected in order to progress to the next set of levels, but that number is obviously less than the total number available. The fun with this comes from trying to figure out how to collect these often visible collectibles while also completing the level. There are many that in order to collect, you have to switch up your strategy pretty drastically.

But aside from level-gating you also get unlocks for every few Goldys you collect. These range from superfluous but always fun cosmetics, to actually necessary abilities like being able to stop time, or to restart a level while keeping all of the orders you’ve already given. Though anything necessary will be collected through normal completion, as these are the tiers which will be reached by simply getting the required Goldys for each world, alternating between the abilities and the sillier stuff really makes these otherwise required powers feel like rewards, and this incentivises you to then find them all.

Hopefully Here to Stay

As well as all of the pre-made content, Humanity also includes a level creator as well as the ability to share your levels online. Many games try this, but this game has that Mario Maker malleability that, if this game gets the widespread adoption it deserves, will hopefully mean that it’ll be alive and kicking for years to come.

I haven’t touched on the music yet, but the game is full of ethereal tracks and loops which can either keep you calm or keep you sweating for as long as the level takes. In later levels, the deceptive vibe of some of the calmer tracks reminded me of sweating over my controller while playing marathon mode in Tetris Effect. A true compliment.

This game is shockingly cheap given what you’re getting. To me, this is the same as the bargain you get with Cuphead or Hollow Knight. Especially considering that this game was rolled out day one on PS Plus Extra (Sony’s comparatively anemic answer to game pass). There is no reason that any fan of puzzle games should skip this. I’ll go door to door if I have to.

Review: Truck Driver

Truck Driver proves that there is something for everyone in the simulation genre. Whether you are cooking food, making potions, crafting furniture, or fishing, you can fill your boots. Moreover, like its peers, you’ll become immersed in an interesting world filled with colourful characters and never-ending tasks.

Developed and published by SOEDESCO, this is a driving simulation title. What’s more, there are plenty of custom options and a massive open world to explore. You may wonder why I’m covering a 2019 game. Well, the new DLC has been released, so I thought I’d kill two birds with one stone. However, the DLC article will follow.

There are plenty of goods to deliver. Today you'll be delivering wood.
It is time to deliver some wood.

Truck Driver tells a familiar tale.

If you are a simulation aficionado, you’ll be familiar with the story. However, this doesn’t mean that it’s boring, because it isn’t. You are the son of a truck driver and you’ve inherited your dad’s vehicle. Consequently, you up sticks and move to a new town. Here, you must make your fortune while becoming familiar with a new job. En route, you’ll make friends and ship a range of exotic cargo.

If you are successful, you’ll help local businesses to thrive. Furthermore, you’ll be paid handsomely for your efforts. Subsequently, you can buy new garages, purchase new trucks, and pimp your ride however you wish. Unlike other sim games, this one focuses on a relaxing experience. As such, there are no police chases and crashes aren’t spectacular. Instead, you’ll be fined for misdemeanours, and you’ll have to pay any repair bills from your profit margin.

Upgrade your vehicle in any garage you own.
How will you improve your truck?

Wonderfully stripped-back gameplay.

Some simulation fans will be disappointed by the stripped-back mechanics. However, I adored the simplicity and how easy it was to pick up. Thankfully, there isn’t a steep learning curve and after you tackle the short tutorial, you are good to go.

You begin the game with your inherited vehicle. By driving this around, you’ll earn skill points in specific categories. You’ll be rewarded for safe driving and completing specific missions. As you level up, you’ll earn cash and unlock new equipment. Alongside this, each job earns you XP. This commodity is spent on passive skills to increase money, XP, or reduce fuel, repair bills, and so forth. As you can tell, it lacks complexity. Yet, I adored it for its rudimentary approach, and this isn’t a complaint.

Alongside this, you are expected to manage your fatigue and the fuel in your vehicle. If you become exhausted or your tank runs dry, you’ll fail your job and the locals will not be happy. Accordingly, you must keep an eye on your speed, your stamina, and your fuel if you wish to succeed.

Truck Driver lacks a bit of polish.

This genre isn’t always that pretty. Therefore, it didn’t surprise me that Truck Driver had some rough edges. However, it wasn’t a problem as gameplay is king in these games. Additionally, I’d rather have a smooth performance with minimal glitches than a beautiful buggy mess. Fortunately, the action runs smoothly no matter the weather or the time of day. Moreover, I loved the rain effect and the horrible glare of headlights at nighttime. On top of this, the choice of viewpoints and the free-flowing camera make this a joy to play.

A relaxed game needs a humble and calm soundtrack. Luckily, Truck Driver delivers a stunning blend of folksy and calm songs. These are complemented by some realistic sound effects. Whether it was the driving rain, the beep of your horn, or the movement of the windscreen wipers, it was fantastic.

Who will you help?
Who will you help?

Good controls.

I was impressed by the control system. Your vehicle is responsive and damage has an adverse effect. On top of this, you can use a steering wheel to make the experience more realistic. At first glance, the UI isn’t intuitive. Furthermore, the tutorial fails to mention the mappable controls or the shortcut buttons. Consequently, until you uncover this information, the game feels clumsy. However, once you master the shortcuts, the action springs to life and everything is more manageable as a result.

There is a massive world to explore, and some hidden places to find. Furthermore, you must complete plenty of jobs and save your cash to get the best vehicles or upgrades. However, if you don’t love the simulation genre, you may find the action repetitive. As such, it would have been nice if there was a way to enhance the difficulty to mix up the gameplay a little.

Truck Driver does exactly what you’d expect.

Truck Driver impressed me, but it offers few surprises. Consequently, if you are a genre veteran, you’ll be familiar with practically every mechanism on offer. Moreover, the UI is frustrating and something that could have easily been rectified. Yet, I love the fact that you can use a steering wheel and I adore the chance to expand the game with the new Heading North DLC. Accordingly, I enjoyed my time with this and I recommend that you buy it here! Can you become a truck driver and fulfil your dad’s dream? Learn the basics, make some contacts, and deliver those goods around the country.

Understanding the Importance of a Good Book Cover

0

As a potential writer, you shouldn’t live in the illusion that your content matters the most and that no one will judge your book by its cover because the truth is the other way around. The cover of your book is the most important aspect of your book – especially – when it comes to marketing your book and presenting your book to attract your ideal readers.

If the book cover isn’t well-designed and carefully crafted, a book can fail to sell. It doesn’t matter how well-written your content is; if your book cover isn’t up to the mark, your book won’t sell.

Of course, as a writer, your entire focus will be on completing the manuscript of your book. You can always hire one of the best book cover designers in the UK and have a professional design your book cover for you.

However, as a novice writer, you will want to understand the importance of having a good boll cover. Your book cover must be as good to attract the ideal readers. It should also be true to its genre and stand out from other books.

What Lies Underneath the Purpose of Designing a Good Book Cover?

The process of designing a book cover is all about getting your manuscript into the reader’s hands by giving your book a form. An excellent book cover is good enough to give the readers an authentic feel about what the book is all about – instead of telling them through words.

As a writer, you know best what your book is about and can use this knowledge to direct what your book cover design should be like. You will want to start by making points about what your book cover should have. You can proceed to have a couple of book cover options printed before choosing the one that looks and feels the best.

Many potential writers overlook the importance of having a good cover design, which is what they learn about later when their books aren’t flying off the shelves. Many books that aren’t selling have cover designs that don’t convey the right message, falling flat in the reader’s eyes.

Before you start brainstorming ideas about your ideal book cover, you will want to look at things from a reader’s perspective. You will want to assess honestly what you feel attracted to when you walk into a bookstore.

Naturally, you will be attracted to books that have great cover designs. Ideally, these are book covers that have creative graphics and attractive font styles. The more attractive the book cover is, the greater the sale the book can make.

Hence, as a writer, you should never underestimate the importance of a good book cover design. You get the point – you will want to look at your book cover as the perfect marketing tool. This indicates that you should never leave the book cover as something to deal with at the last minute.

Be creative and bold.

You will want to have a book cover design that will catch the reader’s eye. The book cover should intrigue the by-passers to halt and be compelled to pick up the book and at least go through it to see what it is about.

Ideally, your book cover should exude creative energy to attract the by-passers.

The Role of a Good Book Cover

Now that we have covered the basics about having a good book cover let us see the role a good book cover design plays in the success of your book,

1.    Get the Reader’s Attention

Your book cover is the first touch point that the readers will have with your book. That said, a striking cover can make a difference between a hot bool and a book that flopped in the market. This aspect perfectly explains why authors hire professional cover designers.

Ideally, your book cover should give away just enough to get the reader’s attention to the point that it makes the reader pick up your book out of curiosity to see what it is about. The cover should also capture the book’s essence without revealing too much about what is happening inside.

The book cover design must reflect that your book is worth your reader’s time and money.

2.    Good Quality Cover

A good quality book cover plays the role of keeping the binding of the book together. You know how books are displayed on a bookshelf – you can see the spine. This aspect indicates that you should focus on ensuring the quality and creativity of this part of the book, too – to make a good first impression.

Nonetheless, the book cover also plays the practical role of keeping the bookbinding together and keeping the edges of the book intact. So, as an author who is about to publish their first book, you should also focus on having a good-quality binding.

3.    Display Books Review on Book Cover

Another practical aspect of the book cover is that you can use it to boast about good book reviews. Book reviews are all about providing useful overviews of people’s great and intuitive reading experiences.

good book review comprises the complexities set forth by the book without treating the author’s material as doubtful content. Make sure that the reviews on your book refer to how the book was written, what was implemented during the period the book was written, and how the delivery has been from the reader’s perspective.

4.    Allow Readers a Glimpse into the Book

As mentioned before, the book cover serves as the first contact point between the book and your ideal readers. Your primary objective of the book cover is to lure the ideal readers towards the book.

With that said, you can use the book cover to give your readers a brief glimpse into the book without overdoing it. Before you add a glimpse of your book to the book cover, you will want to understand the difference between being flashy and attempting to grab the attention of your ideal readers.

You can use the book cover effectively to convey your book’s main idea or theme without exposing the entire story.

Review: Saga of Sins

I for one, did not have action/platformer/exorcist/side-scroller on my 2023 gaming bingo card. If you perchance did, then Saga of Sins is the game to fill that particular niche.

Developed by Bonus Level Entertainment, Saga of Sins puts us in control of Cecil, a cleric just returned from the crusades to his hometown of Sinwell, a name that might well explain why all its inhabitants are deeply troubled souls. Upon returning we are greeted by a very sinister-looking monk named Brother Ulric. We are charged with purging Sinwell of the sin it does so well and collecting apples stolen by the devil from the Garden of Eden.

To do so we must enter the minds of our fellow villagers and traverse the demonic landscape, battling various demons and overcoming whatever obstacles we are confronted with. Now, as a lowly cleric this would seem somewhat difficult, luckily for us, we have the ability to transform into mythical beasts to help us fight. Early game you are restricted to the form of a werewolf. However, once you progress through the game, you will unlock more forms to battle with.

The overall aesthetic of the world is quite beautiful, taking its inspiration from stained-glass windows in churches and cathedrals, the segmented and vibrant world is impressive whether you’re milling about Sinwell or delving into a villager’s mind. The sound effects left a bit more to be desired however, whilst not inherently bad, they’re just a little basic and without specifically listening out for them for this review I likely wouldn’t have noticed them at all.

There are 31 villagers whose minds must be cleansed of sin. There is a formulaic feel to the levels within a certain sin (i.e. gluttony, wrath, lust) although each sin does feel distinct. The mechanics are crisp if a little basic and each new creature form you unlock does allow you to repeat dungeons to search for extra rewards in a Metroidvania sort of way. But whilst the game does a lot to prevent the gameplay from becoming stale, it doesn’t really succeed as after 5 levels I found myself bored of the same routine. Each sin has three levels, two regular and one boss. This does mean that you’ll be advancing at a fairly rapid pace as the levels themselves might only take a few minutes to complete and the bosses are not exactly blessed (get it?) with a large health bar.

All you do in-game is clear these levels, with basic mechanics and honestly, easy challenges, and that comes from someone who usually sucks at these things initially, but I had no issues clearing any of the levels I came across. So if you’re a hardcore platforming fan then maybe this isn’t for you.

Going hand in hand with the lack of challenge is the skill tree, this is incredibly basic and feels almost tacked on. But worse than that is that with very little effort and very early on in the game you can unlock the entire thing, giving you an honestly unfair advantage over the enemies you encounter. Now instead of a challenge, combat feels more like a pattern-recognition game with the solution being all too easy.

All of this leads to Saga of Sins being a very short game. I’d say if the repetitive gameplay loop doesn’t get you down then finishing Saga of Sins within a few hours is completely possible. Which honestly is a shame as the concept here has more potential than has been realised. An exorcism game in which you battle the Seven Deadly Sins screams Persona at me, and yet as an avid Persona fan, I never felt any of the deadliness, rather just apathy although I suppose Sloth would be more appropriate here.

How Do You Play Retro Games?

0

Video gamers, game streamers, Sloto Cash and other online casino players and even esports competitors often enjoy taking a step back into the gaming world of the ‘70s and the ‘80s with some old school gaming fun. Retro games are currently enjoying a wave of popularity as people enjoy the simplicity of retro games’ unpretentiousness.

In our age of metaverse imagery, augmented and virtual reality, casinos online and other high-tech energy, it can be soothing to sit back and experience the uncomplicated minimalism of classic gaming entertainment. Some of these retro games, like Pac-Man, are almost certainly known to almost all of today’s gamers.

But there are plenty of retro games that take one back to the basics of the gaming world that can be experienced on today’s consoles, PCs and even mobile devices.

Give retro-gaming a spin!

What is Retro Gaming?

Retrogaming involves playing old games that were originally designed for old arcade machines, PCs and consoles. Retrogames are based on discontinued or outmoded systems.

Many of these games are enjoying renewed popularity and are being reprogrammed so that they can be played on modern devices. Some of the retrogames are restyled so that 21st century elements integrate with the simplified gameplay of decades-old games.

Retrogaming is a small sub-section of the gaming world but its adherents are passionate about their preference for games that evoke nostalgia and are, oftentimes, more original and innovative than many of today’s games.

Retro games are largely 2D analog games but the popular ones have been reconfigured for modern devices. There are multiple generations of retrogames, each of which fits a different generation of consoles. They have limitations on resolution, memory and color palette and can be purchases as re-releases, often as part of compilations that run on emulation software.

Popular Retrogames

Some of the most popular retrogames sold today include:

Pac-Man: Championship Edition

The iconic Pac-Man is now available in Championship Edition on Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PlayStation and PCs with Windows 7 or more. The ghost chain-gobbling chomping game now comes with a refined user-interface so you can compare your achievements with other players.

The game has more content so you wake up the ghosts, form chains of pursuers and munch as many of those ghosts as possible. You can create an escape route with bombs as you play either against yourself or compete against other gamers on social media.

The retro Pac-Man features neon-like mazes with maze line-ups, complicated courses, customized experiences, unique layouts and special options and multiple levels, each of which with its own unique set of challenges.

Space Invaders Extreme

Space Invaders Extreme can now be played as either a single-player or multi-player on Xbox Live Arcade, Steam, Nintendo and PlayStation.

The original version was released in 1978 and the premise of the game remains the same – to get rid of the space invaders while preventing them from destroying the players’ cannons.  UFOs circle the screen while the cannons shoot the invaders and the players try to avoid being hit.

There are multiple levels to the game, and in each, the aliens’ formations change as they descend, sometimes individually, sometimes in groups. Some of the invaders fire lasers while others can split into duplicates.

Boss levels include large invader forces and different guards. The more you fulfill the instructions that flash in the background (hit invaders of a certain type or color), the higher your score.

Game highlights include power-ups, freezes, extra player options, bonus rounds, and “Fever Time” which awards the player with more abilities for short periods of time. In Stage Mode a player can replay any stage a second time. Extreme Mode presents the highest level of challenges.

Super Mega Worm

Super Mega Worm was developed for iOS devices and plays on Macs, iphones and ipads. The game was first released in 2010 but it adopts a retro style in its graphics and sound design. In the game, the player controls Wojira, the Great Death Worm, who is trying to destroy the human race. As the game progresses the worm grows and acquires new powers.

Throughout the various levelsthe worm moves around underground, blasting out and landing on surfaces – including on humans and animals – aboveground and destroying them. Bouncing the worm around keeps him above the surface and helps increase the gamer’s score.

To keep the worm’s strength up, he eats animals and in order to get a high enough score to move to the next level, the worm must eat a certain number of humans – the higher the level, the more humans the worm need to eat. There are power-ups – speed boosts, machine shut-downs and projectiles that the worm shoots from his mouth — to help move from one level to the next.

NES Remix

The NES Remix video game compilation was developed for Nintendo for Wii U and was released in 2013. It is composed of 16 classic Nintendo Entertainment System Games consisting of 28 vintage games with 373 challenges. The remix features unique challenges that weren’t possible technologically in the early games but are now included.

The remix challenges are excerpted from the vintage games – speedrunning, defeating enemies, clearing an area, etc. In the remix more graphical features are blended in to provide new experiences – navigating on disappearing platforms, switching characters, completing darkened levels with little light, etc.

Players accumulate stars and points which unlock collectable stamps and new challenge stars.

Review: Project Nightmares Case 36 Henrietta Kedward

Horror is a genre that the indie scene has taken and made its own. With a ton of throw backs to old school classics and some takes on newer experiences, there is something for everyone. Project Nightmares Case 36: Henrietta Kedward is a procedural horror game that puts players in the role of an unnamed character who is working with a team of paranormal scientests called the Project nightmares team to investigate the case of Henrietta Kedward. While there is an interesting story to be found here, frustrating gameplay makes it hard to fully enjoy this game.

Project Nightmares Case 36: Henrietta Kedward has you investigating a haunted house that was home to the titular character, Henrietta. After being put to sleep through the use of a machine that can help link the person in the chair to an evil object, you are set loose in a dark and eerie mansion with nothing but a candle stick to guide the way. As you progress through the home, the candle will slowly burn away and you are forced to keep an eye out on the candles life. Thankfully there are extras stashed in a multitude of locations so you are able to get a sense of safety as you build up the number of reserve candles in your inventory. As the wick burns away slowly, there are a few loving details put to help keep you aware of your candles life. For example, as he flame eats away at the candle, your character will adjust their grip so that the heat isn’t directly on top of their hand. You can also look down to find candle wax dripping onto the floor as well for a nice touch. Your character slowly walks through the mansion and you are able to sprint to speed things up but this will blur the camera as well as run the risk of blowing out the candles light which leaves you in the dark and unaware of your surroundings.

One of the biggest draws of the game is that it is procedurally generated which means that each run through the house will be different than the last. As you wander through the house, there will be a multitude of things to interact with in order to help fill in some of the background in regards to what exactly happened here. Items show up on the left side of the screen while the right will have a short description of what the item is as well as any text that can be found on the item. Using the right stick allows you to rotate things in order to get a better view or find new ways to interact with it. There was one instance where I had to rotate gems on a puzzle to finish the pattern and this was one of the more interesting aspects of the game. Project Nightmares Case 36: Henrietta Kedward has an interesting story to tell and I wish there were more positives to be found here.

Things start to take a turn for the worse once you start running into the scares. This game relays on jump scares and taking the camera control away from the player to force them to look at something. There was an instance where I was walking down a corridor and right when I got to the end of the hall, a woman was crawling across the hallway floor. She was right in my path and I would have had to walk in her direction to proceed so I was already on the edge of my seat. That feeling of fear slowly started to fade when the game took the controls out of my hand and had the character slowly turn to face the creature. The candle flickered and sure enough, she was suddenly right in the cameras face and screeching loudly before fading away.

All of the moments that were supposed to be scary ended up like this. Plates constantly flew off the wall and every scare was announced with some loud sound or flash of lightning before throwing something in my face or blaring a loud sound through the speakers. While this may work for some, others may find it to be a major annoyance as well as a reason to put the game down. It feels like the game is doing more to scare the player through sensory overload as opposed to create and maintain a genuinely scary an tense experience.

I found myself more concerned about the sudden volume changes as opposed to being actually scared of the creatures in the mansion. There are a few moments where things get tense such as when a ball mysteriously rolls down the hallway out of no where but these moments are infrequent. Although the hallways are procedurally generated, I am unsure if the scary moments are supposed to be as well. There is an moment where a phone rings and you pick it up only for a brief second of silence only to be followed by someone yelling at you to wake up. I ran into this three times back to back and by the third time, I was ready to put the game down. Overloading my senses is not scary but instead a cheap way to get a jump out of the player.

The other issue I found with the game comes from a mechanical point. The movement of the camera felt sluggish and unresponsive, with the camera slowly turning moments after I tilted the stick. I am not sure if this is supposed to be intentional or not but it made it hard to stomach the camera movements. The game is also extremely dark, even with the brightness turned all the way up on my monitor since there is no in game brightness slider. While this may be due to the atmosphere that they are trying to create, it made things hard to spot without being right on top of them. I found myself wandering down the halls and being frustrated that I could not even see the things I was supposed to be scared of.

This is definitely a game that has a lot of potential and I would love to see more from these developers but I really hope they do better with the next entry in the series. The switch port of the game ran fine with no performance issues in both handheld and docked mode. While the visuals were a little blurry in the handheld mode, playing docked made things look a little sharper but did not solve the issue of the game being too dark. While this could have been solved by turning the brightness on my monitor up, things ended up being washed out and muddy. The scares found here rely on loud sounds and sudden pop ins which is bound to get some players but may leave others wanting for something more.

Review: JBuds Air Pro earbuds

JBuds Air Pro earbuds try to be a Jack of all trades whilst delivering a premium product. The issue with this is that something has to give. We all know that you can’t be everything for everyone and, as such, a little compromise isn’t a problem. In this case, these decent earbuds deliver pleasant audio, excellent build quality, and some excellent connectivity options.

Alongside this, the battery life is decent and the charging case ensures that you can get around 34 to 36 hours of playtime. Moreover, there is an array of EQ modes to try out, an IP55 rating for splash and dust resistance, and they have touch controls. Accordingly, these tiny earbuds pack a lot of tech into their tiny plastic shells.

What’s in the box of the JBuds Air Pro earbuds?

  • The compact box is adorned with key selling points. Furthermore, the images are attractive and the blue finish is pleasant to the eye. Alongside this, the fully recyclable packaging is robust and the contents are well protected.
  • The JBuds Air Pro earbuds are light and easy to handle. The small ear tips are made of silicone and are comfortable in your ears. Thanks to the touch controls, there are no unsightly buttons or switches. Moreover, the black matte finish delivers a professional aesthetic.
  • The small charging case is robust and sturdy. On the outside, you’ll note 3 LED lights and inside the magnetic connections, hold the earbuds in place. On the bottom, there is a built-in USB cable to charge the device. This cable is somewhat flimsy, but it is suitable and will last as long as you store it away when not in use.
  • 3 sets of silicone tips are provided for ultimate comfort. To get the best out of these earbuds, I recommend finding a snug fit.
  • A user manual is provided, but a full version can be downloaded from JLab’s website.

Technical aspects.

These Jack of all trade earbuds have done an amazing job at packing in the features. Therefore, they are great for commuters, walkers, and those that enjoy fitness. Moreover, they’ll be good for gaming or watching movies on the move. However, where they excel is the excellent Multipoint Bluetooth connectivity and the awareness audio function.

Multipoint Bluetooth connectivity is incredibly useful. Imagine you are taking a break at home and you want to use your home gym or watch a TV program. Yet, you don’t want to miss an online call or any other important meeting. Well, this feature allows you to listen to music or a podcast on one device while staying connected to the business world. Consequently, if you receive a Skype call mid-workout, you can answer it without stopping what you are doing.

Talking of exercise, the Be Aware Mode will be your best friend! Whenever you are running on busy roads or parks, you want to be aware of your surroundings. Well, like the best bone conduction headphones, the JBuds Air Pro earbuds let the outside in. Moreover, if you download the excellent JLab app, you can adjust the transparency based on your preferences.

Touch controls and automatic ear detection.

No one wants hassle when they are taking calls or listening to music. Thankfully, the well-conceived touch controls make this a hassle-free experience. You can adjust the EQ mode, enable the Be Aware Mode, skip songs, pause music, and answer calls by tapping each earbud. Additionally, you can adjust the volume or ask “SIRI” or “OK GOOGLE” by double-tapping the device.

Alongside this, there are helpful chimes to indicate connectivity, low battery, and when you power the device off. These simple chimes ensure that using the device is straightforward and user-friendly.

Another key element that impressed me was the automatic ear detection. Whenever an earbud is removed, your music is automatically stopped. This was a pleasant feature, especially when you were listening to podcasts. If you stopped to chat with a friend, the last thing you want to do is whip out your phone. As such, by removing an earbud, you don’t miss any vital moments of your favourite show, and you don’t appear rude. Subsequently, it’s a win, win situation.

Sound quality.

All the technical aspects are wonderful. However, sound quality is a massive part of any audio device. Accordingly, I want a good range of tones, a balanced bass, and an excellent microphone. The JBuds Air Pro earbuds do a pleasant job with most of these qualities, but disappointingly, the bass isn’t quite right. Consequently, you’ll have to play around with the settings in the JLab app to get the balance to your liking. Once you get the EQ right, you’ll enjoy fantastic audio that matches the price point.

If you like to use your earbuds for wireless phone calls, party chat on Xbox, or Zoom meetings, then you’ll need a decent microphone. The JBuds Air Pro earbuds have a rounded voice pickup that presents crisp sound and accurate dialogue. However, it also responds to background noises and this can make a conversation unfortunately loud and uncomfortable. As such, these are best used in quieter environments.

Are the JBuds Air Pro earbuds worth it?

These earbuds impressed me. However, they require a bit of tweaking to get the best out of them. Yet, the excellent app makes that a cinch, so I can’t complain too much. Available for around £70 these IP55-rated earbuds are a great choice. Moreover, the brilliant Multipoint Bluetooth, responsive touch controls, and healthy battery life make them a viable choice. My only complaints focus on the microphone background noise and the requirement to adjust your settings. Remember, though, they are minor problems and you get a lot of bang for your buck. Subsequently, I recommend that you buy them here!

Features of Gambling in New Jersey

0

New Jersey has been a focal point for legal online gambling since 2013, when the first NJ online casinos opened their virtual doors. With exponential growth forecasted in the US market, more and more online casinos are anticipated to open by 2023, bringing a bounty of options for those interested in responsible wagering.

Currently, there are 22 legal gaming portals in the market, including the renowned Caesars Casino, which stand ready to offer a variety of enthralling odds, bonus offers, and sportsbook features to NJ gamblers. Taking full advantage of enticing Caesars NJ promo codes and other incentives, players can dive into an ever-growing selection of new and casino variations 24 hours a day.

However, with so many opportunities to play online for real cash, it can be difficult to know exactly where to begin. The good news is – the tough work is already done. In this article, you will find every piece of information you need to make informed choices about it.

Is Online Gambling Legal in NJ?

Yes, internet gaming in NJ is legal and includes multiple versions such as:

  • Poker
  • Sports wagering
  • Horse race wagering
  • DFS
  • Casino games
  • Lotteries
  • Bingo

In 2013, a groundbreaking amendment paved the way for Atlantic City casinos to team up with online operators, permitting them to provide NJ online casinos and poker. The US Supreme Court’s ruling four years later brought legal status to Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) and in 2018 to sports wagering. All casinos in Atlantic City – land-based as well as virtual – are overseen by the NJDGE. This governing body guarantees secure and compliant gambling experiences by making sure online casinos meet all necessary regulatory requirements.

Gambling on non-U.S. sites from inside New Jersey’s boundaries is unlawful, with the minimum age for online casinos, poker, and sportsbooks as 21 and 18 for DFS and horse race betting. Furthermore, you must be present in NJ’s territory to access legitimate portals.

5 Key Factors to Consider When Choosing a Site

Despite legality surrounding this type of web gambling in NJ, they still offer larger welcome bonuses and a much wider variety of games in comparison to traditional online casinos. These five key points should help to guide you through your decision-making process:

Game Selection

When starting out, find a platform where you can access a broad range of games that align with your interests. These are likely to encompass various slot machines, table games, live dealer options and sports betting, among others.

Bonuses & Promotions

When making your decision around what online casino to join, it’s essential to weigh up the welcome bonuses and ongoing promotions each one offers. To give you a better idea of the value of bonuses, check out what wagering requirements or Terms & Conditions they come with. Additionally, look out for reload deposit bonuses, regular incentives, giveaways and loyalty programs.

Payment OptionsTo make sure your online casino experience is as straightforward as possible, take a look at the payment options available. From credit cards and debit cards to e-wallets, cryptocurrency and bank transfers, you’ll find a method to suit your needs.

Customer Support

Staying on reliable ground calls for having reliable customer service available. Therefore, make sure any betting portal you opt for has accessible options to address any inquiries or problems. Consider viable alternatives such as a live chat, emailing or voice support if something arises.

Read Reviews

Last but not least, it is recommended to read reviews and recommendations that are tailored to your interests. As such, poker fans can learn more about the seven NJ poker sites endorsed by the NJDGE. Likewise, casino game enthusiasts, sports bettors, horse track followers, DFS players, and lottery fans will be able to track down what they need.

Whatever your requirements may be, there are still lots of choices at your fingertips to fulfill them. Though some platforms may come up lacking in certain areas, there are nevertheless abundant opportunities available to cover your individual preferences.
