PC236526-1024x768_thumb_thumb_thumb_

Arch Linux ARM is based on Arch Linux, which aims for simplicity and full control to the end user. It provides a lightweight base structure that allows you to shape the system to your needs. For this reason, the Arch Linux ARM image for the Raspberry Pi does not come with a graphical user interface, though you can easily install one yourself. Please note that this distribution may not be suitable for beginners.

Arch Linux ARM is on a rolling-release cycle that can be updated daily through small packages instead of huge updates every few months.

Did you manage to get one order? Let us know! We did and we can’t wait to try it!

Condusiv Technologies Introduces Undelete 10 for File Protection With Instant Recovery

Condusiv Technologies today announced the release of Undelete 10, real time data protection and instant data recovery.

UD10_SearchScreenShot

The Server, Professional and Client editions of Undelete let you see the contents of Recovery Bins on remote computers like file servers, allowing IT or users to recover their deleted files across the network with a single click of a button. It’s no longer necessary to search backup tapes or Windows Shadow copies when a user accidentally deletes a file from the server.

Undelete can also restore files previously purged from the Recycle Bin or the Undelete Recovery Bin – even if they were deleted before Undelete was installed

When a file is deleted, it is automatically captured and stored in the Undelete Recovery Bin. Undelete 10 captures all the files the Windows Recycle Bin misses, such as those deleted from shared network folders, deleted from commonly used applications, deleted by the Windows command prompt, or replaced when newer versions of a file are saved. Also, if a file is modified several times between a backup or shadow copy, it will not be saved. With Undelete, these file versions will be saved and are recoverable.

Undelete 10 features

· One-button Search for Recent Files, which allows the user to locate a file deleted within a 24-hour period or one week period with one click.

· New Search Wizard, a single pane view that provides fast and easy way to find a lost file.

· New User Interface for ease of use, quality of experience.

· Undelete 10 Server – Protects server files including those deleted by network clients from a centralized management console.

· Undelete 10 Desktop Client – Allows connected laptops, workstations and VMs to recover their own files from remote Undelete 10 Server recovery bins.

· Undelete 10 Professional – Protects locally stored files and allows files to be recovered from remote Undelete Server recovery bins.

· Undelete 10 Home – Provides comprehensive protection of locally stored files.

Condusiv Undelete 10 “Set it and Forget It” file recovery system runs on all Windows platforms, including those on VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V environments.

Undelete 10 Server, Professional and Home Editions support Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008/2008 R2 and Windows 7.

In compliance with corporate governance or governmental regulatory requirements for secure data deletion, Undelete provides an electronic data shedder: SecureDelete 2.0. Using a bit pattern specified by the National Security Agency (NSA) for the Department of Defense, SecureDelete not only deletes a file but overwrites the disk space the file previously occupied making it virtually impossible for anyone to access.

Diskeeper Corporation is now known as Condusiv Technologies

1

Diskeeper Corporation will enter spring 2012 as Condusiv Technologies.

Condusiv

Today, Monday March 5, the leader in high performance optimization and maintenance software for technology, people and business has changed its name to Condusiv Technologies. The company ceased operating under the name Diskeeper Corporation as of midnight on March 4, 2012.

“Shortly after being appointed CEO of Diskeeper, in September of 2011, I reviewed the core intellectual property and leadership of the company. I realized that I had inherited a very talented team with deep engineering expertise and a passionate desire to develop thought leading high performance software; innovative products that would have extremely positive measurable impact on our customers’ business, economic recovery and macroeconomic growth,” says Jerry Baldwin.

“We are a very different organization today than we were when the company was founded in 1981. Adopting a new name and brand identity is a logical next step in our growth strategy. This change reflects our team’s passion for developing industry leading solutions and partnerships with customers to bring about positive growth and change.” said Jerry Baldwin, new CEO of Condusiv™. “Condusiv expresses what we have become as an organization as well as what we hope to be — a highly focused dynamic leader that transcends the boundaries of traditional solutions with innovative products that rapidly and dramatically improve productivity in technology, people and business”.

“Condusiv is a word that connotes putting emphasis on possibility and future”, says Baldwin…“just as our company focuses on helping its customers extend operation efficiency and equipment longevity to increase productivity today and for tomorrow.”

“Condusiv is a more modern and dynamic expression of the company’s new marketplace position as a leader providing software optimization and performance solutions that can swiftly help to bridge economic recovery with restored economic growth for customers,” stated Baldwin.

John Lake, Vice President Marketing, Condusiv said, “when developing a new brand name for the company, our team was inspired by ideas of bold growth and inventive thinking. We wanted to connect with the reality that global business is changing faster than ever, and select a name wherein customers understood Condusiv is about advantageously helping them make these changes. Condusiv is derived from the word conducive, meaning contributing to making an experience better. The name perfectly describes the company’s focus on helping customers. Condusiv, in its shortened form and unique spelling, also captures the essence of partners who are incredibly technologically innovative in a fast-paced and demanding world.”

The name change follows 31 years of successful business with Fortune 100 to Fortune 1000 companies, but with a new passionate mission to connect customers and partners, technology and people with the benefits of optimized efficient growth, fast thinking and change.

Lake noted, “the firm welcomed its employees back to work after a company launch event with rebranded offices, signage and stationery. On March 5, we will be launching an aggressive global rebranding campaign that will reinforce our new marketplace positioning and introduce the new brand to our clients, recruits and the public at large”.

Nokia PureView Camera Technology Coming to Windows Phone

Nokia’s PureView camera tech is coming to Windows Phone…read on for details.

Nokia recently introduced a Symbian phone with a 41 megapixel camera on board, using a technology called PureView, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.   Well, now today comes the news that this technology is coming to Windows Phone in the near future.  How does a Lumia with a 41 megapixel camera on board sound to you?

Here is what WPCentral has to say about this development:

Remember that insane Symbian cameraphone that was unveiled at this year’s MWC, which blew some of us away? Looks like the PureView camera technology that provided the Nokia 808 with a 41MP shooter has been confirmed to be heading to a Windows Phone near you (check out some of our hands-on coverage to witness what this will mean for consumers).

Nokia’s Jo Harlow validated the speculation that the manufacturer would be brining this technology to the Lumia Windows Phone family in an interview with Finnish newspaper Aamulehti. When queried about when we should expect to see such a device, Harlow replied with (rough translation): “I can’t say precisely when, but it will not take very long.” Windows Phone Apollo (when we’re more than likely to see PureView on Microsoft’s platform) just got that little bit sweeter, no?

That would be a great development for Nokia and for Windows Phone!  We’ll keep you posted on developments.

Hat tip to WPCentral on this story.

Plextor Announce M3 Pro Series SSD with True Speed

Plextor has announced the launch of the M3 Pro Series Solid State Drive with True Speed technology and a 5 year warranty.

M3-01

Expanding on the existing M3 model (reviewed in December last year), the Pro version is able to attribute superior performance to the highly optimised firmware, high grade 24nm Toggle Flash and support for the latest SATA 6Gb/s (SATA III). The latest generation Marvell controller chip delivers consistently high read/write performances – even with data which is not easily compressed.

A 7mm ultra-slim form coupled with accessories and software to make upgrading both ultra-slim notebooks and PC storage a breeze, without having to reinstall software.

The M3 Pro Series drive is engineered with True Speed technology in order to deliver consistently high-level performance even after extended periods of time. This commitment is demonstrated through a market-leading 5 year warranty which ensures high usage users can expect not only superb speeds whilst backing-up and transferring data, but confidence in ongoing reliability and excellent customer service.

M3 Pro Series Key Features:

* 2.5” Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

* Available in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB capacities

* True Speed Technology for sustained performance over time

* Random read and write speeds of 70,000 / 69,000 IOPS

* 7mm Ultra Slim form factor

* Uses server-grade Marvell 88SS9174 controller chip

* Supports SATA III 6Gb/s interface and highest quality Japanese NAND flash

* Boasts lowest average annual failure rate (AFR) across industry

* Unrivalled 5 year on-site warranty and service support

Powered by True Speed technology for sustained performance over time:

Working closely alongside industry-leader Toshiba, Plextor has manufactured the M3 Pro Series drive to use the latest 24nm Toggle NAND flash memory which delivers transmission rates of 133 Mbps – far higher than the standard 40 Mbps offered by traditional SDR technology. Such advanced design ensures the maximum number of read and writes, to increase the reliability and longevity of the M3 Pro Series drive.

The high-speed Toshiba memory has been coupled with the latest generation of Marvell’s server-grade controller which supports the SATA 6Bb/s interface, resulting in a super fast random read/write speed of 70,000/69,000 IOPS and up to 540MB/s and 450MB/s sequential read/write speed, ensuring users have optimum response times when transferring data.

Accelerated technology is supported by a range of exclusive Plextor firmware including the patented Instant Restore (helping to maintain the performance of the drive at the initial levels even after long periods of time), Bad Block Management and Global Wear Management. These components together form part of True Speed, a combined technology which allows Plextor M3 Pro series drive to deliver sustained high performance throughout its lifespan.

Slim form factor and easy upgrades from existing hard drives:

With a 7mm ultra-slim form factor, the 2.5” M3 Pro drive can easily fit into ultra-slim notebooks or (with a 3.5” bracket included) into desktop PCs, allowing a wider range of users to benefit from optimised system performance through upgrading to high-speed storage.

What’s more, the M3 Pro is bundled with a disc cloning utility which makes it quick and simple to upgrade from an existing hard drive. Transferring an exact copy of the drive data eliminates the need to reinstall the Operating System or individual programs and associated data.

Reliability and performance supported by market-leading 5 year warranty:

Plextor has a commitment to reliability which starts with full and thorough factory testing and conditioning of each M3 Pro drive to ensure long-term stability. Each drive goes through rigorous high temperature tests and accelerated usage simulation testing, and this has resulting in Plextor achieving a commendable 0.5% AFR (annual failure rate) for SSDs – the lowest in the industry.

The M3 Pro series SSDs will be available from March 2012, with a choice of 128GB, 256GB and 512GB capacities. Pricing to be confirmed.

Watch out for a review soon.

Plex Updates their Media Server to v0.9.5.3

Plex has just released an update to their Media Server, taking it to version 0.9.5.3 and bringing with it a number of fixes.

Plex

This is the list of changes in this build:

  • NEW: Add a universal font for rendering subtitles with on Windows and Linux. This fixes streaming from Linux not working when subtitles were enabled.
  • NEW: Enhanced selection of audio tracks: if streams are all in the same language (or are all missing a language), apply selection logic for DTS/AC3.
  • FIX: Some media (e.g. MPEG1/2/TS) was not properly generating a thumbnail.
  • FIX: We check to see if public address changes, and if so, notify myPlex.
  • FIX: If the port is manually mapped, the media server never updates myPlex.
  • FIX: Computing “streamability” for MP4 files was totally broken, leading to iOS not Direct Playing them. (You’ll need to rescan the library section or else kick off media analysis via the command line to fix existing files.)
  • FIX: In some cases, the wrong subtitle (internal) was rendered, even when an external subtitle was selected.
  • FIX: On Deck wasn’t correct for shows with multiple episodes on a single day (e.g. two-part finales like that awesome Lost finale that Anna and I are still arguing about. Really, they were all dead?).
  • FIX: Filenames are now stored as UTF-8 on the Mac.
  • FIX: A hang on OS X/Linux when spawning a section refresh
  • FIX: Unmatched media wasn’t getting subtitles and cover art files.
  • FIX: Stop ignoring USB drives on Linux; it seemed like a good idea at the time, but it just makes neckbeards angry.
  • FIX: A bug where site config “pause” commands would never continue if a frame load came in during the pause (thanks, Ian!)
  • FIX: A crash when there is no computer name set on OS X.
  • FIX: Various WebKit crashes on Windows.
  • FIX: Increase the iTunes ‘path’ column in the database, required for better I18N support (it was super short).
  • FIX: Tweak to HTTP Live Streaming to make it adhere closer to the spec (and work on a TouchPad).
  • FIX: Better (and much simpler) check for private network connections (details here).
  • FIX: When episodes don’t have indexes (episode numbers), watched/unwatched settings applied to the entire season.
  • FIX: When splitting media, you could end up with a “warning” flag that wouldn’t go away.
  • FIX: Improved WebKit audio sync.
  • FIX: A crash while updating the library.
