Samsung announces the Galaxy NX Camera (in pictures)

Samsung Electronics today announced the launch of the Galaxy NX, the world’s first 4G interchangeable lens Connected Compact System Camera (CSC). Versatile and easy to use, the Galaxy NX combines cutting edge optical performance with connectivity capabilities and Android applications. The result is a new type of connected device which means you can share your experiences instantly in amazing colour and outstanding detail.

CDW - Samsung Galaxy NX Camera - 6

Featuring 3G/4G LTE technology, the Galaxy NX means anyone interested in photography can stay constantly connected with their world. Promising speedy sharing whether on the move or at home, the seamless connectivity of the Galaxy NX makes it a device that puts the sharing of professional level images at its heart. It embraces the era of visual communication by providing an outlet for passionate photographers to express their exciting experiences immediately and in spectacular quality.

CDW - Samsung Galaxy NX Camera - 5

The Galaxy NX is designed to help you capture the scene and mood of every place you visit. Photo Suggest gives you location-based recommendations of popular photography spots, sourced from a huge library of images taken by other photographers from around the world. Story Album allows you to look back at your photos on one timeline, reframing and resizing them to create digital photo books which can be viewed and shared on your other devices.

CDW - Samsung Galaxy NX Camera - 1

Image quality is really something to shout about thanks to the array of interchangeable lenses available with the Galaxy NX. The 20.3MP APS-C Sensor produces images which are bright and detailed, even in low light conditions, while the DRIMe IV Image Signal Processer delivers the speed and accuracy that today’s photographers demand.

Its Advanced Hybrid Auto Focus (AF) System ensures accurate phase and contrast detection so you can capture crisp, vibrant shots, while the 1/6000 sec shutter speed and 8.6fps shooting means you can capture the action as it is happening.

The flexibility offered by the Galaxy NX’s selection of interchangeable lenses – from compact pancake lenses and an ultra-wide fisheye, to longer prime and zoom lenses – places creative control firmly in the hands of the photographer. True 3D Creator also brings an added element of realism to the Galaxy NX results, allowing you to shoot images and movies in 3D with Samsung’s 45mm 2D/3D lens.

CDW - Samsung Galaxy NX Camera - 3

With Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, the functionality of a smartphone is used to improve the photographic experience you get with the Galaxy NX. You can choose from a huge array of Android apps to help personalise your device and do more than just shoot amazing photographs and video, from editing images, to adding special effects and staying in touch with friends and family.

CDW - Samsung Galaxy NX Camera - 5

More than 30 Smart Mode options mean you can choose the optimum settings for the environment you are capturing, as well as create fresh, artistic images. Multi Exposure merges two different shots together to produce one distinctive image, while Animated Photo connects continuous shots of up to five seconds, creating a moving GIF file. For added realism, Sound & Shot stores sound and voice together as the picture is taken, so moments are captured exactly as they happen.

CDW - Samsung Galaxy NX Camera - 7

For added personalisation, Camera Studio allows you to easily customise settings with your most frequently used applications or camera modes, so you can capture your photos exactly how you want them.

Microsoft’s Whitten Talks About DRM and Kinect Always On

More information is coming out regarding Xbox One policies, including the fact that you’ll need to install a day one patch.
Speaking to IGN, Mark Whitten has explained what will happen now that Microsoft has had a change of stance.
“There was always going to be a day one update on the console, and that’s frankly just a difference in manufacturing schedules versus software schedules,” he said.
“We just wanted to be clear that that hasn’t changed, that you have to go online to get the software update for day one, then you wouldn’t have to be connected after that.”
As far as always connected Kinect goes, it seems that’s still a large part of Microsoft’s plans.
Xbox One pic 2
“We still believe Kinect is a really critical part of the architecture,” Whitten said.
“We want game and interactive entertainment creators to be able to know they can take advantage of it, and we want it to be completely consistent for our users. So we still are very committed to how Kinect transforms that experience.”
In a separate interview with Kotaku, Whitten as discussed some of the things that will change now that there is no DRM.
“There’s a few things we won’t be able to deliver as a result of this change,” Whitten told the site. “One of the things we were very excited about was ‘wherever we go my games are always with me.’ Now, of course your physical games won’t show up that way. The games you bought digitally will.”

“You’ll have to bring your discs with you to have your games with you.”
“Similarly, the sharing library [is something] we won’t be able to deliver at launch,” he added.
“We believe a lot in this digital future,” Whitten concluded. “We believe it builds an amazing experience – the ability to have a broader sharing platform and my content coming with me, [but] what we heard is people still wanted more choice, they wanted the familiarity of the physical disc.”

EA Not Going to Reinstating Online Passes for Xbox One

0
EA will not change its stance for Online Passes now that Microsoft has decided to drop DRM from Xbox One.
EA LogoXbox_One_Logo.jpg
“[There is] no change to our decision to discontinue Online Pass. It is dead,” senior director of corporate communications John Reseburg told Polygon in response to Microsoft’s policy reversal.
“As we said a few weeks ago, none of our new EA titles will include online pass, and we are removing it from existing games as well. Nothing else on today’s news, but did want to be clear that our online pass decision was based on player feedback, and there’s no change.”
EA dropped its online pass scheme in late May and when Microsoft announced details of its DRM soon after, many people put one and one together. It seems though that EA was as surprised as anyone when Microsoft announced DRM for its machine, so EA’s stance will remain the same now that DRM is gone.

Microsoft Does a U Turn and DRM and Offline Play and more for Xbox One

3

Xbox One is to change its policies for used games and online connectivity. “what amounts to a complete reversal” on its controversial polices.

Last week at E3, the excitement, creativity and future of our industry was on display for a global audience.
For us, the future comes in the form of Xbox One, a system designed to be the best place to play games this year and for many years to come. As is our heritage with Xbox, we designed a system that could take full advantage of advances in technology in order to deliver a breakthrough in game play and entertainment. We imagined a new set of benefits such as easier roaming, family sharing, and new ways to try and buy games. We believe in the benefits of a connected, digital future.
Since unveiling our plans for Xbox One, my team and I have heard directly from many of you, read your comments and listened to your feedback. I would like to take the opportunity today to thank you for your assistance in helping us to reshape the future of Xbox One.
You told us how much you loved the flexibility you have today with games delivered on disc. The ability to lend, share, and resell these games at your discretion is of incredible importance to you. Also important to you is the freedom to play offline, for any length of time, anywhere in the world.
So, today I am announcing the following changes to Xbox One and how you can play, share, lend, and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360.

Xbox One U Turn

Here is what that means:

  • An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.
  • Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.

In addition to buying a disc from a retailer, you can also download games from Xbox Live on day of release. If you choose to download your games, you will be able to play them offline just like you do today. Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console — there will be no regional restrictions.

These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray.

We appreciate your passion, support and willingness to challenge the assumptions of digital licensing and connectivity. While we believe that the majority of people will play games online and access the cloud for both games and entertainment, we will give consumers the choice of both physical and digital content. We have listened and we have heard loud and clear from your feedback that you want the best of both worlds.
