Sony has today announced that Gran Turismo 6 will be released on PlayStation 3 in ‘holiday 2013’. The game, which has a “renewed rendering engine, resulting in a more responsive and smoother experience,” will feature the most cars ever seen in the series and promises new levels of authenticity. Included within GT6 will be the cars and tracks from Gran Turismo 5, along with some considerable additions taking the total up to 1200. The press release also promises that the game will include lots of aero parts and custom wheels for almost all cars.

Other Enhancements and improvements extend to a much-improved course maker function, which will provide several kilometers of ‘gorgeous’ scenery, including the backdrop of Andalucia. The course maker will also include a new GPS data feature, which will increase the freedom of track creation in the game.

Finally, it’s also revealed that the UK’s Silverstone Circuit will appear in the game for the first time in the series’ history. It will be one of seven new locations, taking the total to 33, although this will make 71 different layouts available, 19 of them new.
“It is amazing to think that it is 15 years since we first released Gran Turismo,” said Kazunori Yamauchi, who will be presenting at Silverstone later today. “Things have changed a lot since then and now Gran Turismo 6 is a further evolution of my dream. We’re pleased to deliver GT6 to PlayStation 3 as we have a very loyal community on that platform.”
