Each character will have his own unique ability, such as Michael, who’s able to slow down time during shootouts, much like Red Dead Redemption‘s ‘Dead Eye’ mechanic.

Franklin, meanwhile, is able to slow time while driving – allowing players to quickly avoid hazards – while Trevor has the ability to temporarily deal and take extra damage.

Property acquisition will enable players to earn extra income, while the returning skill system, first seen in San Andreas, sees players level up their running, driving and jumping skills as the game progresses.

Players will also have the ability to hunt, participate in off-road races, pick up hitchhikers and perform robberies, according to VideoGamer.

Unlike for previous releases, the game’s map will be accessible from the very beginning, while players are said to be able to switch between characters at will during free roam sections.

It will also feature extensive customisation options, giving players the option to tweak weapons, vehicles and personal appearances.

Grand Theft Auto 5 was announced in October, 2011. It will take place in the fictional city of Los Santos, loosely based on present-day Southern California.

The game features three protagonists – Trevor, Franklin and Michael – who all possess their own personalities and skill sets, as well as moving in different social circles that will combine to form the game’s overall story.
