A Closer Look

Final Thoughts
The DH4300 Plus is a neat and compact unit, standing just over 21cm tall, so it sits quite happily on a desk or a shelf without taking over the room.
It is a diskless NAS so you will need to supply your own drives – it takes both 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch SATA drives, and it is worth checking the UGREEN compatibility list before you buy.
Setting it up is really simple and quick. Download the UGREEN NAS app, tap your phone on the NFC spot and follow the steps on screen. If you are new to NAS devices, don’t worry, this is about as beginner-friendly as it gets.
You don’t have to fill all four bays on day one either. You can start with a single drive and move up from Basic to RAID 1 and then RAID 5 as you add more – a really handy option if you want to spread the cost.
The 2.5GbE port makes moving big files around nice and quick, and remote access means you can get to your files from your phone or laptop wherever you are.
The AI photo album is the real star of the show. Turn on automatic backup on your phone and the DH4300 Plus sorts everything by people, places and scenes, finds duplicates and lets you search by describing what is in the picture. You can also share albums with the family using a link or a QR code.
There is an HDMI port so you can plug it straight into your TV and watch your own films in 4K, and the video library will fetch artwork and subtitles for you. Plex and Jellyfin both work, although it is better suited to direct playback than heavy transcoding.
Security is well covered with encryption, a firewall, real-time virus scanning and two-factor authentication, and you can set up private folders for each member of the family.
It is worth knowing that there are no M.2 slots for SSD caching, the memory can’t be upgraded and there is no virtual machine support (Docker is supported though). If you need those extras the DXP range is the one to look at – but for most homes it won’t be an issue.
Power use is pleasingly low too, at around 23W with the drives in use and around 7W when they are hibernating.
The UGREEN NASync DH4300 Plus is available now priced around $399.99 (reduced from $439.99), and there are also bundles that include a UPS.
