Truck-kun is Supporting Me from Another World?! has to be one of the most bizarre games I’ve played in a while. Racing around a city with my jaw hitting the floor was an unusual experience. However, I couldn’t put down this strange but addictive title. Sadly, I’m not sure it’ll appeal to a wide audience, but if you are willing to try something strange and you have a wicked sense of humour, this could be the game for you.

This arcade driving game was developed by Strange Scaffold and published by Frosty Pop. It is a single-player title that relies on short, sharp rounds. Moreover, you must have a destructive personality as you drive into buildings, tables, hedges, people, and much more. Unfortunately, this is the depth of the action. Therefore, it is as deep as a puddle, and you may find the repetitive action tiresome.

Truck-kun is Supporting Me from Another World?! tells a silly story.

The action is split over 2 main roles. There is Carissa Ward, a high-flying marketing VP who is about to get a promotion. Sadly, she is hit by a delivery truck and transported to a fantasy world. The delivery driver is understandably guilty and shocked. However, he never expected Carissa to rise from the dead and demand that he destroy everything in sight! If he completes his mission, he will help Carissa power the Galactic Gate, confront the Skeleton King, and gather the Scroll of Resurrection.

The story leans heavily into the Isekai subgenre of Japanese Anime. I have limited experience with this genre, but Carissa is an expert and familiar with every cliché. The result is plenty of amusing dialogue even if I wasn’t entirely in on the in-jokes. Moreover, the relationship between both heroes flows nicely as orders are barked and the pair move closer to their end goal.

Simple mechanics.

The game uses simple mechanics, short rounds, and plenty of surprises to keep you entertained. Effectively, you must collect as many stars as possible before the timer runs out. Stars are awarded if you complete a task. For example, drifting, smashing certain items, or destroying unbreakable obstacles. This isn’t all, though, as the delivery driver must continue his job and Carissa must tackle an array of deadly monsters.

As you mow people down, monsters will appear before the heroine. She will fight them until you assist her with a boost attack. This is gained by smashing into items and honking your horn. It is all very simple but effective. However, things are a little hectic, and I found it easy to forget to do every task. This wasn’t a problem, but if you are not good at multitasking, you may struggle to spin every plate.

Although I found Truck-kun is Supporting Me from Another World?! to be fun, it was a little repetitive. No matter how many times you rerun a round, you always have the same tasks to complete. This will hold it back, and I’d recommend tackling it in a casual manner.

Truck-kun is Supporting Me from Another World?! is dated but vibrant.

Truck-kun is Supporting Me from Another World?! isn’t a beautiful game. Yet, I appreciated the vibrant colours, the different areas to explore, and the OTT action. Moreover, the pixelated elements were nice, and I like the nod to Japanese anime. Sadly, it does occasionally suffer from frame rate drops, and this causes a few issues. I’m hoping this will be patched out, but it was problematic.

The audio is as hectic, loud, and annoying as you’d expect. The noise of every obstacle being destroyed and the sound of your car dominate proceedings. This exaggerated style matches the energetic layers of the anime theme. The ska-inspired soundtrack works extremely well. It is an upbeat, unique, and enjoyable aspect of this title. Furthermore, it complements the cheeky nature of the characters.

Excellent controls.

This could have been horrible to play. There is so much going on that it should have been overwhelming. Thankfully, the excellent tutorial, well-considered button layout, and rudimentary control design ensure that it is easy to play and easier to master.

Replay value is somewhat limited. If you enjoy the mindless action, you can play this for hours. However, it is repetitive, and you are asked to complete the same task over and over again. This was a shame, but it is the nature of the beast. Subsequently, play this one casually for the best results.

Truck-kun is Supporting Me from Another World?! is fun but not exceptional.

Truck-kun is Supporting Me from Another World?! is a fun game and something that I’ve never experienced before. The random nature of the action will put some off, but I think it’ll be a hit. It is so unique and niche that it’ll get a big following. Hopefully, the frame rate problem can be resolved, but it is still fun despite this issue. Accordingly, I like it and recommend buying it here! Can you complete your goals and get back to work? Collect those stars, hit the pedestrians, and gather the Scroll of Resurrection!

SUMMARY
