Cancer Research UK has been awarded a £1,000 donation from Vodafone UK. The charity collected the Vodafone Community Connection Award last week after the store team in Warrington chose the deserving cause.
Launched in 2014, Vodafone’s Community Connection Awards have already made a difference to more than 170 local communities across the UK. Selected by local Vodafone staff and aimed at supporting local causes with a £1,000 donation, the awards have been used to help fund everything from new equipment for soup kitchens and day centres for the elderly to helping people with disabilities take part in sporting activities.
Last year, Cancer Research UK spent £28 million in the North West on some of the UK’s leading scientific and clinical research – helping more people beat cancer. Cancer survival rates have doubled since the 1970s and Cancer Research UK has been at the heart of this progress. The £1,000 award will help fund this vital research.
Alison Barbuti, Cancer Research UK’s North West spokesperson, said, “We’d like to thank the staff at Vodafone for this fantastic donation to Cancer Research UK. The money raised will fund research to help ensure more men, women and children in the North West and across the UK can beat cancer.”
Sully Sattar, Vodafone Store Manager in Warrington said, “We are delighted to help Cancer Research UK with a £1,000 donation. It’s a pleasure and privilege to help an organisation that supports all areas of cancer research.”
