Microsoft announces Windows 10 for 29th July

Today Microsoft has announced that Windows 10 will launch on 29th July, on new laptops, PCs and tablets, plus be available as a free upgrade for a year for any devices currently running Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

The new software will be available in 190 territories globally with existing Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 users being given a year to upgrade.

Microsoft says the that users who update during the promotional period will be able to use Windows 10 at no cost forever, which seems like a good idea.

Users wanting to download the the free Windows 10 upgrade will have to reserve a free copy in the coming weeks.
