Overall Evaluation of Installation Process
If you are using Internet Explorer, the installation process simply will not work. NETGEAR confirmed that there is an issue using IE11 and states that they are working on fixing it. However, if you use Chrome like I did here or Firefox, installation is easy and quick. The dashboard is laid out well, is easy to navigate and is responsive. You’ll be up and running in a reasonable amount of time, as long as you can live with using a browser other than Internet Explorer. For me, this is no big deal as I always keep an alternate browser loaded on test machines. You need to make that call or yourself, but I’d rate the installation process as among the easier ones that I’ve seen in a NAS unit once I used Chrome.
UPDATED 4/15/2014
NETGEAR has pushed an update to the RN102 that fixes all issues that I noted using Internet Explorer. I have tested thoroughly and can report that all of the issues that I noted in this review have been rectified if you are using firmware 6.1.7.
Stay tuned for Part Two where I delve into the ReadyDrop service…
