There is also a switch on the side of the case that controls the main fan speed. The options are Full, Medium and Low. This makes it a lot easier to change the fan settings without having to open the case and fiddle around inside.

Final Thoughts

The Node 605 case is yet another great product from from Fractal Design. You can easily see how much time and effort has gone into designing and building it. This is actually the case (no pun intended) with every single Fractal Design product.

The Node 605 case only comes in the one colour – but it is a good colour choice considering it will sit in your living room and looks like an expensive piece of hi-fi equipment.

Opening the case was simple and only involved turning two screws – usually Fractal cases don’t require a screwdriver but in order to keep the look of the 605 as sleek as possible “normal” screws have been used.

There is space for 4 hard drives, depending on how you want to load up your Node.

Fitting a Mini ITX motherboard was very straightforward and shouldn’t take you much time at all.

Having 2 USB 3.0 ports on the front of the case make it very easy to used external storage media, along with the various compact flash and SD card slots you should have everything you need. Fractal have even included a Firewire port too, although I can’t see that many people using it anymore.

Obviously as you plan on using the Node 605 as an HTPC you would want it to be quiet, and this is certainly an area where the Node 605 excels. On a low fan setting you cannot here anything, on medium there is a very small amount of sound if you press your ear up against it, and even on full you have to be very close to the case to hear anything, so when you are watching a movie you are unlikely to hear anything – which is exactly what you want. You can make it even quieter by adding a Fractal power supply into the mix.

Price wise, you can pick up the Node 304 for around £120 although do look around as prices do seem to vary quite a bit.

And I seem to say this every time I review something from Fractal Design – great job, you have yet another winner on your hands.
