As you can see from the TVFool report, using an in-house antenna is not recommended in my location. In addition, several transmitters are 51 or so miles away, just outside the advertised range of this antenna, so was I being fair to Winegard here? Take a look at this report and tell me!
My local Fox station 27.5 miles away with a signal power of 34.4 was not usable, and the ABC station 51.1 miles away was sometimes usable sometimes not. However, this antenna pulls in NBC, Fox and CW from 51.1 miles away, better than the directional RCA one that I using with Media Center, and gets all of my local stations save Fox. The RCA directional one that I am using can not bring in the local PBS and only really gets the local CBS and the NBC from 51.1 miles away. I’d say that the Winegard delivers in a tough reception environment.
Overall Conclusion
The Winegard FlatWave Amped HD Antenna was easy to set up and blended reasonably well with the décor of the bedroom in which is was installed. Being able to function laid flat or hung on the wall, it can be installed in a flexible manner, easily and quickly. The amplifier helps with reception, and it performed quite well, pulling in channels from beyond its rated range. There is nothing to complain about here, so I gave it a 5/5 Gold Award.
The FlatWaved Amped is available directly from Winegard for $89.99. I’d recommend looking into it as an option for your in-house over the air TV antenna needs.
