Mohu Sky HDTV Antenna Review

If you opt to install this in your attic, use the mounting pole or hang the antenna from 2” nails driven into a wood post.  Run the coaxial cable to where you need the TV signal.

Ensure that you attach the amplifier before any splitters in the system to ensure decent performance on multiple TV’s, and if you don’t install the amplifier using a USB port on a TV, use the provided wall wart to plug it into an outlet.

Attach the To TV end of the cable included on the amplifier to the TV and begin channel scanning.  The TV will then use the signal from the antenna to scan for available OTA channels and will set up the TV to tune them.  Channel scanning can take up to an hour to complete; mine finished in 15 minutes.  Setup took 25 minutes from when I opened the box to watching TV OTA.

Results

Even set up in a non-approved temporary manner, the Mohu Sky pulled in every potential TV station with no reception issues.  Check out this report below:

All available transmitters were received with no issues, which is not surprising as the Sky advertises a range of 60 miles.  With an outdoor or permanent attic installation, I’d expect this performance to continue.

The Mohu Sky installation instructions were detailed and accurate, and all hardware required to install and use the Sky was included and labeled.

What is really nice about the Sky is you could install it once and run multiple TV’s from it across your home.  It is more expensive than buying an indoor antenna, but performed better and can run multiple TV’s.  It might well be worth the extra cost to have a more capable and more flexible system.

The Sky was easy to install and use, and performed exactly as advertised in a very tough environment.  I award the Mohu Sky a 5/5 Gold Award.

  1. Thanks for sharing your TV Fool report and such detailed results!

It looks like you got the Fox station (18.1) with 2Edge path, 17.7 dB noise margin, and 51 mile distance. Did you try or have any luck with the lower-powered 24.1 PBS station from the same tower? Or perhaps the 4.1 CBS or 35.1 IND stations from other directions on your report? Also, did you ever try using the antenna outdoors? Curious if that would help snag those stations.

I’ve got a location with similar paths and distances as your 18.1 Fox station, but only 8.8-15.6 dB noise margins, so I am curious how it performed on those fringe stations, and if anything can be tweaked to get them (i.e. antenna location).
