Additional functionality

The Add-In visualizes the activity of the selected sources. So you can easily identify what keeps your server running.

Client actions

Lights-Out adds control to your clients.

Remarks

Data integrity

To reduce the risk of data loss, the server is never put into sleep during an active backup operation or a backup cleanup.

You can define services, which are stopped on suspend and restarted after resume.

Lights-Out is a very handy application, and Martin is committed to bringing most of this functionality to Windows 7 and Windows 8 machines.  Here is what is included in the new beta:

Description

Current Version 1.5.4 Build 2005 BETA

BETA Lights-Out for Windows 7 or 8 as “Home Server”

Differences between Lights-Out on WHS and Windows 7/8

  • There is no WHS Connector and therefore no working communication infrastructure on Windows 8
  • Lights-Out uses a special (TCP/IP based) communication protocol on port 7679
  • Port 7679 is opened during installation on the Windows 7/8 “Server”, if you use another personal firewall you have to open port 7679 by yourself
  • Client computers are joined during setup to their server, server discovery is handled by sending a multicast on port 7679
  • There is no pre-configured SSL infrastructure on Windows 7/8
  • There is no client backup handled by the server
  • There is no WHS Console on the client

Known issues:

  • No backup support for clients
  • Mac and Mobile support only in LAN (local), not in WAN because SSL infrastructure is missing

Changes from last Beta

  • Added RDP and console monitoring to uptime chart
  • Lights-Out client can now be operated in parallel with another Lights-Out server installation
  • In place license upgrade (discount code)
  • New 30 day evaluation period
  • Simplified Server Join during initial install
  • Client uninstall/reinstall does no longer create a duplicate in console
  • Client About dialog shows connected server and allows to runs the join program
