Performance Testing
We ran our usual drive performance tests against the drive:
Final Thoughts
The drive is small, light weight and easy to carry around, and the encryption software works very simply.
All you have to do is set a password the first time you use it and then it’s secure (get the password wrong 6 times and the data is erased).
I would like to see both a USB 3.0 version of the drive and also one that has a much higher capacity as 16GB just doesn’t seem to be enough anymore.
There are a small number of drives that left the factory with an older version of the software on, which meant you couldn’t resize and format the partitions. If you have one of these drives (we did for our review) just contact Aleratec who will send you the latest firmware which updates the drive in a matter of minutes.
Price wise, the 16GB version retails for $75.99, and if you want smaller drives you can also buy 2, 4 or 8GB versions.
