Final Thoughts
The iOne is virtually silent – in fact, the only noise coming from it was a very slight hum from the hard drive, and that was barely audible (I had to have my ear pressed right against the case).
Be careful doing that as the case did get quite hot!
There are a few USB 2.0 ports on the back of the iMono along with various ports that seem quite out-dated now – RS232, Parallel, and so on. If you want a PC with up to date connectivity then you will be disappointed with the options on the iOne.
There is an option to include a second LAN port – you could then use the iOne as a firewall or something else that could benefit from multiple LAN ports.
I liked the look of the iOne – especially the single button on the front of the box.
Cost wise, the iOne starts at £279.00 + VAT at 20% (note that price includes a CPU but doesn’t include memory, hard drive or operating system – it’s just for the unit and motherboard / processor, so you will have to select some options). As usual with Tranquil, there are a number of options to choose from. The cost of the review unit we had was £449.95 + VAT.
Tranquil are offering a pre-order deal:
This Product will begin shipping in the final week of October, use pre order code “IONE10” to get £60 off
As with most Tranquil boxes, we can certainly recommend it. It is built well, looks great and is silent. It is let down a little by the lack of “current” connectivity options on it though.
Depending on what you want to use the box for, you might want to consider paying a little extra and going for the Tranquil iMono instead as it has a much better processor and a lot better port selection. Again though it really does depend on what you want to do with it. If you are looking for a media center pc for example, go for the iMono, it’s a much better box.
