Software called UDRIVE is used to show the modelling “driving” around and also to do a lot of other things with.
Ford can model the interior of the car, all the way down to the detail on the wood grain on a panel (you cant see from the picture below, but there are even shadowing and reflections showing just what the panel would look like in reality). This saves Ford not only a significant amount of money but also time. In a matter of moments they can show a certain feature in a different colour or fabric, and so on.
They can also choose different colours. For example, if they wanted to see a truck in Blue Flame, they make that colour and then apply it the model. They do a lot of modelling using different locations and lighting to show just what that colour looks like in reality. After all, a colour will look one way in an overcast surrounding and different on a sunny day. Again, you cant see it from the pictures but there are even reflections on the paintwork. Ford can even place the vehicle in a dealer showroom. Only the vehicle in these pictures is computer generated – everything else is based on real photography.
They can also show off different models and colours very simply.
During the design process, there isn’t just one car designed, there are many types for that one car – again, they can be easily rendered and displayed using the technology.
