Void Your Warranty in One Easy Step
Uh yeah. The secret to any drive extraction is a Craftsman #1 Screwdriver. Seriously.
Once the drive was in the SATA dock I had to reformat it. Seagate’s drive partitions are different than I have seen before.
Not to worry, as Disk Management can delete ANYTHING…
…and make your drive as pretty as new.
ATTO Benchmark with SATA connection
Once in the SATA dock on my Core i7 the ATTO Benchmark speeds were more in line.
It took :07 seconds to copy the same 2.419 GB video file which equates to 345 MB/s so the ATTO Disk Benchmark was off. Not sure what was going on there but it was fast.
Conclusion
Overall the drive performed as expected. It is a drive, after all, and performs to the same SATA spec as all of the other 3TB drives out there. If you are looking for an inexpensive internal 3TB then this is a good one assuming you are ok cracking the case open. If you are looking for a fast external 3TB then this is not the one. The USB 2.0 base makes it slow but if you only have USB 2.0 on your PC (HP MSS) then it will move data at regular 2.0 speed and seem just fine.
I am now ready for Windows Home Server 2011 and a 3TB Mirror!
