It has been pretty quiet on the Windows Home Server Code Name Vail front for a while now, but today the WHS team at Microsoft tweeted they had signed off the final Release Candidate of Vail, but then that tweet disappeared!
Here is a screenshot of what the tweet said:
As you can clearly see it said they signed off the “final RC of Vail this morning” and that it would appear “on Connect soon”.
I’m not sure why they then removed the tweet – the news is now out there!
So if that information is correct watch out for the Vail Release Candidate very soon!
Nice find, can't wait
Hopefully we won't have to wait much longer!
Interesting Andrew. Disappeared huh? Why do people think they can tweet this stuff? I just don't understand it. It's under wraps, the release date for the next beta or RC is a secret, yet they tweet this stuff. I don't understand it.
More stuff for me as a podcast though!
Excellent! Let's just hope it's on Connect soon. I have a shiny piece of 64-bit hardware waiting for it!
But that comment in Microsoft Connect has been in 2-3 weeks, no news actually…
The news about them signing off the RC was only yesterday which means releasing to the public is happening very soon (as in the next few days I would guess).
Who cares about Vail anymore ? Without DE, it's just another Microsoft product "Dead On Delivery", not much useful to today's home consumers needs.
Yet another na Sayer…Maybe dead for you But perfect for ME..I Dislike DE It is a Failed technology. I will be in line waiting for my copy when Released…I cant wait for RTM.
Got a nice new BOX with 2 sets 4X2TB with Raid5 Arrays just waing to go live.
Done with this Beta stage..!
thanks for the positive response – I think Vail still has a lot to offer – I suppose time will tell.
I Believe in VAIL, without Drive Extender. Perhaps a 3 parts add-ins program will solve the problem ? Im looking forward to the RC version of Windows Home Server v2
Vail still has a lot to offer, even without Drive Extender. Keep checking UWHS for information on the RC VERY soon!
This is developing like a bad comedy. First no DE, now It seems that Vail (called now Home Server 2011) is even bigger screwed-up than I thought. Ya, you can now install 3TB in server, but you cannot really use 3TB ! WHS automatically “downgrade” 3TB hardrives to 2Tb partitions because Vail is not able to make backup of WHS drives if they are larger than 2TB. So, even if you have 10TB RAID5, you have to partition it into 2TB chunks max. I wonder how you are going to backup multiTB PCs to 2TB chunks?
Ity seems that Microsoft lately produce just failure after failure to consumer home market. No wonder that Apple and everybody else has a free raid.
