Brian Binnerup has today announced My Movies for the iPad – and I for one can’t wait!
Here is what Brian has to say:
My Movies for iPad – Sneak Peak
Introduction
The release of My Movies for iPhone Pro and the latest update to My Movies for iPhone Light have left users of the iPad behind as the iPad currently only runs OS 3.2, where we are now using functionalities on iPhone that requires iOS4.
There have been lots of questions on what plans we had with the iPad. The answer to the most important one is that yes, we are planning a release for iPad, named My Movies for iPad. This page will try to answer some of the questions for this application.
Frequently Asked Questions
Question: When will it be available?
Answer: We are planning a release in October this year.
Question: What will it cost?
Answer: The price of the application will be $6.99 (€5.99, £4.99).
Question: Can I share the collection between my iPhone and iPad?
Answer: The iPad application is as the iPhone applications connected to our online servers, where the collection is tied to your user account, which means that you have the same collection on all devices, including the Collection Management software.
Question: The iPad does not have a camera, how can I quickly add titles?
Answer: You can synchronize your collection with our Collection Management software, you can add titles from your iPhone and synchronize the iPad, or you can add titles by manually inputting barcodes or search for titles. You can even use the batch barcode scanner in My Movies for iPhone Pro to add titles and then sync your iPad against the same collection.
Question: Will there be a free Light version?
Answer: There will not, no. The My Movies for iPad application will be available in only in a Pro version.
Question: What feature set will it have?
Answer: The feature set will be identical to the one on My Movies for iPhone Pro, except for the barcode scanning functions which requires a camera. We are though considering to exclude the “Releases” and “Trailers” section from the initial release to be able to bring you the application faster, but if we do, it will be added in an update soon after the initial release.
Question: Can I play the movie titles I have on my Media Center or Home Server on the iPad?
Answer: You can not, no. The software is a collection browsing software.
Question: Can I select to play a title on my Media Center on the iPad?
Answer: This functionality is planned for both the iPhone and the iPad applications. If it is not included with the initial release, it will be soon after.
Question: Can I use My Movies for iPad as a remote control for my Media Center?
Answer: Not in the initial release, no. It is planned to add basic remote control functionality to the iPhone and iPad releases later on for users who have My Movies for Windows Media Center installed, which means the same functionality you have on a Windows Media Center remote control will be available on the mobile devices within the local network. It is not planned to extend this further to browsing of music or similar.
So if you are a fan on My Movies on Windows Media Center and you have an iPad, then you will definitely want to check this out later in the year.
